But who makes the most profitable computers? 💰💰💰

The fastest path to a 16GB standard is getting consumers as a group to choose to keep their money instead of buying 8GB Macs. Else, Apple can know exactly what you are saying but are thoroughly rewarded for NOT doing it in the most tangible measure.
That is exactly the correct response and until they do then Apple will continue to offer 8GB on the base model. Eventually Apple will increase the base RAM from 8 to 16 when their OS will need more for the basics. I'm typing this on my M2 base Mini and I'm not having any problems but then again, i'm a casual user.

If you want the better processor and more RAM, you’re forced to pay for more internal storage. 🥴

One place where internal storage isn’t imperative is a desktop machine and they’ve still got us over a barrel.

That's a lot of Mac for $499! I paid $599 for the same Mini, and thought I was getting a bargain, compared to the last one I bought for $699. I still think it's a bargain. And AppleCare for the Mini is cheap, too.

Not having an extra NVME slot on the desktops is borderline criminal

Unlike on the laptops, where there can be a space excuse, on the desktops it’s done for no reason at all other than to gouge folks with outrageous component upgrade pricing

Oh great. Now there's going to be a Satechi Mac Pro Wheels adapter for Mac mini next week.
I’ll have to wait for the space grey wheels to come out, I think the chrome wheels would silly on a space grey Mac mini. I once put a chrome watch band on the space grey Apple Watch and I’m not going to make that mistake again 😂

Tech forums hate 8gb and just can’t see outside their bubble. Majority of owners don’t know or care what RAM is. It’s a Mac, easy to use, thinking those owners would move to Windows horror show is hilarious.

Tim says in every quaterly report that services are growing and they are an important focus for the future. They should be concerned about securing future income by expanding user base, not pushing away the newcommers. A windows user who tries out a mac based on the 8 gb here is 16 gb there lie, will never ever again buy a mac.

Nah, with the 6 GB chips they'll go to 12 GB first and increase the upgrade price to $300 for 24GB.

This thing has been $499 on EDU store since day 1; and at most retailers for the majority of the past year as well... But this likely signals M3 is right around the corner!

It’s a desktop, super easy to pop in an external that’s just as fast… the only issue with this thing is the ram if you an to use it for photos or something

How do you pop "in" an "external"?
haha

In all seriousness, they really need to add a user accessible NVME slot to all their desktops.

Hell - even SONY of all people did this with the PS5 and it's supremely user friendly to have a built in non accessible storage medium and then allow users to pop in additional storage they source on their own.

That would assuage SO many complaints about ASI machines, particularly the desktops.

The longevity of devices in circulation would be extended immensely also.

All these base model ASI devices on fire sale all the time (new and preowned) would actually be potentially useful and of interest to a whole swath of buyers that currently just passes them over, as they are "fixed appliances" and stuck as they were when new.

If they made 16GB RAM the default across the board and added an NVME slot == total heaven!

Ideally but the disc space would bother me ALOT more with a laptop. With the Mac mini or studio i just pop a thunderbolt 4 NVME drive in the back. i use under desk mounts for my machines and just put the drives on top of em and I don’t know the difference. My studio display might as well be an iMac with whats visible

I mean, I guess -- I think we are making excuses for Apple too much though.

It's completely inelegant (remember when Apple cared about style?) to have spaghetti cables going all over from a desktop setup, just for components that should be inside the case -- if they'd just design them to be a little more consumer friendly and flexible from the get go.

Also, at least for NVME, in can be a real crap shoot to wade through the good/ok/bad in terms of external enclosures that perform well, cool well, stay reliably connected, etc. -- All of that would be moot with an internal NVME slot. Pop the blade in, done.

100% reliable.

That's what we should expect from Apple.

And they’ll never do that cus theyr’e all about their bottom line and want you to buy the bigger one

A Plex server that will decode multiple 4K streams at once? I don’t think so…

My apologies, as I missed any specific mention of multiple 4k streams at once.

That is a whole other ball of wax, and a Mac Mini ASI is going to other issues there..

macOS plex can't do hardware accelerated 4k HDR tone mapping, so it will be very much YMMV
