Ya currently Apple is a company no one has ever heard of!

But what did you want? A Mac Pro Octo for 2k? Come on, I don't really know what you were waiting for?

Hey dude, who said we want A Mac Pro Octo for 2k? A lot of people would be ver happy with core 2 duo (or even a core duo) with an ati radeon X1900 XT for let’s say, 1599$? Is that so hard? Is that really wishfull thinking? Can you give me an answer why apple isn’t giving us this option?!?

The new octo Mac Pro was just announced, but all they did was just add a 2x3.0 Quad option to the top and charge us a ridiculous high amount!

I know they are here for profits, but won't they sell more if they lower the prices for the older models and maybe put some more configurations in it, say a 2.6/2.4G Quad option? EDIT: not to mention the GPU choices are so childish.

I'd say I'm totally disappointed after waited it for so long, I guess this is the reason Apple won't become mainstream, because they never ever will get the market until they figure out that we need something performs better than iMac, but not as expensive as a Mac Pro. Yes, basically a headless iMac with upgrades. NO, absolutely not a 2.0G Mac Pro, which is IMO the worst value in the lineup.

My motivation to buy a Mac Pro is now finally over, I'll just build myself a good PC and stick with Ubuntu for now. So long, Apple.

Boy, that sure sounded sincere. Why don't you MS/Dell folk get some NEW material? Really, anything would be better than this constant stream of poorly crafted drivel you are posting. You folk need to get better organized. By the time we get to you, it is so totally dorky. I am embarrassed for you.

Can you give me an answer why apple isn’t giving us this option?!?.

It's not profitable for them at this time.

It's probably because the "market" you are looking isn't as unified as you think, they have differing opinions of what such a machine should feature and different price points at which they'll bite. Mini-tower, lower entry model...smaller/same size, no PCI slots/1 slot/2 slots, 2/4/8 RAM slots, extra HD bays yes/no...etc. It's many small schools of fish and they won't all take to the same bait, so it's not worth Apple's time to try and please them all.

Yes. Because Apple doesn't wish to recreate the product confusion that was present in the Spindler years. It nearly killed them last time.

IMHO, Apple is doing a terrific job maintaining a taught, focused product offering, and though it's not pleasing all of the people all of the time, it is pleasing some of the people all of the time.

another thread today really made me want to point out that (and I'm sure you know) you meant "taut" not "taught," so I did...

Yes. Because Apple doesn't wish to recreate the product confusion that was present in the Spindler years. It nearly killed them last time.

That one reason. Also

1) They don't think there is room for it in there line of Mac
2) They already tried, it called the PowerMac G4 Cube and there was a PowerMac G5 1.8Ghz(same as the iMac of the time) and they both got cancel. Apple didn't sell enough.

Remember when the move to Intel was first announced, and a lot of people were running around saying, "Ooh, now the models will be revised 4 times as often and cost half as much!" And I said, "No. It's still Apple (and anyway Intel chips aren't cheaper than PPC). Just...no." NOW do you want to listen to me, people? ;) I personally am not disappointed because I wasn't expecting anything else. Just being realistic. (Anyway I'm not in the market for a new computer for at least another couple of years.)

Hah well I dont remember you saying that ;). But yes.. and very good deal for those users who dove in at the start, although they had to deal with UB apps and plugins. It will be interesting to see how Apple handles upgrades and such in the future assuming Intel/Amd start pumping out new proc fast like they used to.

The headless iMac whiners should move away from the pro stuff. This is not the place for that crap. Take it up with the iMac or Mini section, not here.

This is a pro machine. They are not about to take that away by sticking in a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad. If they did, it would be a new product entirely.

Most of the people whining about the update being weak don't need a Mac Pro anyhow. The graphics options are just fine. You don't buy a Mac Pro to game, I am sorry. The Xeons don't usher up the raw performance that the desktop class chips produce for gaming. The memory is also sub par in gaming.

The current offerings are fantastic for the Mac Pro. It doesn't need an 8800, it would be wasted.

If you don't know what you are talking about, which is most people here don't make troll posts. It makes you look like an idiot.

Fair enough. I have reread my post and I admit it, it was a little offensive. I guess I am just an angry guy, dissapointed by today’s update that’s all. Anyway, I hope one day apple will offer some sort of an option for the rest of us with smaller wallets.

DailyTech reported price-drops on the quad core Clovertown first flight for Q3 2007, but the 3GHz part is brand new and thus is priced where the 2.66 was at release- $1172 PER PROCESSOR in quantities of 1000.

From experience, I know apple gets HUGE discounts from it's suppliers. They're like the walmart of the computer industry. Suppliers are talked into ridiculous prices. that's why apple has 30-40% profit margins on a lot of their hardware products.

They've all heard of the iPod. When I tell them Apple also make computers they don't believe me. Macs are a niche.

Nobody expects an octo for 2K. But a Core2 desktop for $1.5K or less makes sense to everybody except Apple. And that's why (with a host of other reasons) Macs are and will remain a niche.

This is actually kind of funny. File it under uninformed rant.
Sure prices could have dropped slightly, about the same as displays maybe for the current three cpu options. But that's about it. And they didn't which says that maybe their cost didn't.

There is absolutely no reason to have multiple Octos in the lineup. 2.0 -> 2.66 -> 3.0 -> Octo 3.0. You don't need a 2.x Octo option.

Sure there should be a mid-tower. Get in line, there isn't.

24" iMac is a perfectly acceptable machine. Or build you PC. Don't let the door...

Your friends need to open there eyes..pull their heads away from places were the sun don't shine! I brought my Mac with me one day, and had atleast 3-4 people tell me how they wanted a Mac, and even more comented on my Mac.

Have these people ever been in an Apple Store? Have the ever went into a Starbucks?

I agree with everything said up to this point.

I know a guy who I'm trying to convince to buy a MP and it's really freakin hard when Apple refuses to lower prices like this.

I told him to wait till the 8 cores to buy so he could by a quad 2.66 at a discount.

I had him waiting 6 months to buy, and for what?
