Webkit sucks, everyone knows this and that's why Apple keeps it locked down on iOS devices.
What's the last innovative feature Safari has made? They put out Safari technology previews all the time which means nothing to the average consumer.
Apple keeps it locked down on their devices because they think it’s a better security posture to have one browser engine when 98% of people don’t even know what a browser engine is, let alone have a preference on which one is used, and trust themselves more than third parties.
That’s it. That’s the reason. It’s not because they’re being anticompetitive. It’s because no one cares outside of a handful of tech nerds, which we can see by the fact that in the regions that allow third party engines, no one has built one.
