What's the issue with offering it for people who want it?
I don't get it.
You don't like it, don't touch.
This is bad thinking on the part of Apple and some superfans.
Steve Jobs was incredible, but he was not a god for all times.
there will be changes to UI.
If Apple want to make separate MBP with touch screen and it's own UI, fine.
I don't want iPadOS on my mac with touchscreen.
I am sure Apple won't maintain 2 different operating systems one for touch screen and other for keyboard & mouse.

Most people don't need touch screen laptops.
I have talked to all my friends who use windows laptops at work, all of them have touchscreen laptops, they never touched their screen.

I agree but this move is just weird.

If they objected to it because they thought it didn't make a good product or a good user experience then fine but to wait years and they put out a touchscreen laptop out screams lack of product strategy

When you look at this and the awkward iPad - Keyboard combinations Tim Cooks 'toaster fridge' comments look a bit silly.

It’s just not Apple, at least the previous Apple. Apple always had a clear vision on what they want their products to be instead of trying to cater to every consumer demand. Having options might sound like a great idea for consumers, but business wise, it’s not always wise. Having options can increase cost and reduce profit, while confusing consumers at the same time. As much as I disliked Apple, I would praise them for sticking to their guns, to their vision and design language.

But Tim Cook Apple is different after all. Who knows.

Touch my screen, expect a little hand-slap.

No to greasy fingerprints on the screen.

No real Mac user wanted nor asked for a touch screen. Sure a casual mac user who's just a casual computer user maybe, not a died in the wool 6 colours bleeding mac user born from the core of Apple since they could read on a computer lol.

In all seriousness a touchscreen Mac is NOT the answer.

Apple doing a MUCH better AppleDuo or 1000x better Microsoft Surface Book (that used the Fullcrum hinge)

no we do NOT want that BUT ...

Have the laptop hardware of the M2 Pro/M2 Max or M3 generation of either, but the top half being the iPad Pro and just use a highly secure wireless connection or hardware connection adding increased battery life ... with Apple's sweet applesauce design chops ..

then we'd be close to what a REAL mac user wants.

(end emotional typing).

Agree. Even people I know who have Surface Pros are pretty much using it like regular laptops.

Touchscreen was a band aid due to the piss poor trackpad most Windows laptops had. Nowadays, the trackpads have improved, and once people realize they don’t need to touch the screen to scroll reliably, they just don’t anymore.

I’m a digital artist and absolutely do not see the need for this but more power to those who want it and will use it. I only hope they will continue to make lower priced Pros without this functionality.

I thought that a touchscreen mac would be a great idea. Until I bought a Windows equipped notebook that unexpectedly had a touchscreen.

'Be careful what you wish for'.

People hated (hate) the Touch Bar, and yet people want a touch screen? Any slightest touch of the screen causes the cursor to pop over to whatever spot my skin randomly chooses. Nightmares are made of this!

EDIT: Note: I personally love the Touch Bar, until it reacts to a finger(s) that lightly float too close over it.

Cannot wait for the day that I can start smearing my gorgeous laptop display with fingerprints.

There's a reason Apple has held off on touch display laptops for as long as they have. They demo well, but aren't a great day to day work experience.
