Nothing needs to be done to optimise UI elements as long as the apps use auto layout. If the apps use custom layout then only in some cases the developers need to fiddle around with things. But vast majority of the apps are developed with auto layout anyway.
Doesn't that require Xcode 10? A lot of apps weren't built on Xcode 10.

The XS Max only has the same points in terms of width. It's very different in terms of height. Landscape behaviour is also different. Safe area is also different (largely because of the notch).

Yeah but one doesn’t really need to do much if an app is using auto layout. Especially if it’s a content base app. Only games might need to be optimised.

I can tell you that snap chat now has this stupid white boarder in the app now for the MAX...

As should now be expected, Apple have designed the iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and iOS 12 to behave in a backwardly-compatible manner for apps that were built with Xcode 9 and can’t reasonably be expected to be able to fully support the new devices. Even apps that use auto layout and have launch storyboards will be shown zoomed to fill the larger screen. Rebuilding with Xcode 10 opts the developer into the larger screen size.

Ah that explains it. Thanks for explanation. I am loving this MAX

Now you can continue your vacation and not worry about it. Not sure what apps you are using but the developers are the one that do the updating. Some may take a while wile other will never be perfect.

My MAX seems to be displaying all correctly.

It says something when even Apples own app, Connect hasn’t been updated for the XS Max

i thought it might be fun to start a thread where we acknowledge iPhone apps that have been optimized (utilizing the extra screen real estate) for the iPhone XS Max. So far the following apps have been optizimized:

Fantastical 2
Things 3

Has anyone noticed any other apps?

Yes so if your app is coded properly and already supports the X it’s just a recompile with a newer version of XCode, it’s not a massive change.

It's more fun to do a bit 'more' on the XS, though — I barely see that. We added a larger thumbnail for the last captured shot in Halide, for instance.

I’m just waiting for the YouTube interface to be updated. Video itself seems fine. Then my core apps are where I want them to be.

is Facebook messenger still not optimized for max? is there a workaround for it?

What type of “workaround” are you thinking about?! If an app is not updated with the new version of Xcode then there’s not much the users can do.

Ps. Tapatalk Pro was updated yesterday.
