Now that’s what I should be getting. I’ve got the same Mac with the card mounted in the same slot, I’ve even got the same drive.

Have you recently done a "forced TRIM" on your SSD? Maybe with all the testing, etc. it simply has become full and hasn't had a chance to clean up the array.

Nope. Was a brand new drive, first thing I did was use the official Samsung tool to update the firmware.

No Raid. Left is an 500GB 840 EVO that I tested when I had a Solo x2, Right is an 512GB 840 Pro on a Duo x2. Virtually the same.

^^^^No, I have two Duo's. All SSDs are Samsung. One Duo has an original Series 840 500 GB and a 500GB 840 EVO. The other has a 512GB 840 Pro and a 500 GB 840 EVO.

But none of my SSDs are Raided.

How does the Duo compare to the Solo x2 (solo has a 2nd sata port)
I could get a sata power splitter and run another drive off of that, right?

using something like this...

http://www.atechfabrication.com/images/htpc/products/HDD_Mounts_004-1024.jpg

Yes, you can run a 2nd drive off the SATA port of the Solo x2, but it seems by the time you buy that adapter and all, wouldn't it be a cleaner setup to just have the single card DUO instead?

I have two SOLO x2's with one drive each, but that is to get a bit more speed out of the RAID set compared to the max allowed by the DUO. We could sure use a DUO with higher max bandwidth...why capped at 880MB/s?

Agree with @dmylrea on the much cleaner setup (no cable spaghetti) in a MP with the DUO x2. User of the DUO x2 since the beta card I was very lucky to test-drive. Exchanged the beta with a final release card. Not the fastest PCIe solution ATM, but still very happy with the no-hassle install and usage icm 840 EVO SSD's using OSX 10.10.1 and Windows 8 Pro. Highly recommended.

Non-Raided 840 EVO @ DUOx2

I already have a Solo x2.
and I think I'll have a "spare" 32G SSD available soon.
I think I could stick this in and run a a Fusion VMware machine off of it.

I can see your read/write speeds. There must be something wrong with my set up. You ain’t the only one that seems to be running at full chat. What slot are you in?

Apricorn Velocity Solo X2 $60 & Duo $100 after rebate ends 3/31/15

In my cMP 5.1 (2012) it's in PCIe slot #3. Here are my test results for a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD on J2 on the DUO x2 in Bootcamped Windows 8 Pro x64 non-RAID & NO RAPID mode!

So far the people I’ve seen, (only a couple mind), with problems seem to be running Subsystem ID: 0x9182, I’m 9230.
Apricorn mailed me a firmware update yesterday. I’ve got to boot from a USB to install tho. I’ll put it in my old DOS box for that.

I'm lacking the know-how about your "Subsystem ID: 0x9182, I’m 9230" issue. Would you mind explaining that and did you manage to successfully install your new firmware from Apricorn? Thanks!

Whilst it didn’t appear to solve my problem and none of the revisions or IDs have changed. I did apply the update by booting into Windows. Now when I did the flash I used a DOSBox not my Mac. You’ll also need a thumb drive.
The process was;
Download the zip file here, (it contains a Win98 Boot folder, the flash files themselves and an HP Thumb Drive Utility).
1. Unzip the folder and place the three separate items on your desktop.
2. Install the thumb drive utility.
3. Run the utility as Admin. Select your drive from the drop down if you have more than one present. Set the file system to FAT32. Choose Quick Format. Choose Create a DOS startup disk. Click the button and choose the folder called win98boot.
4. Close the utility and open the thumb drive in Windows explorer, (it’ll appear to be empty). Copy the 1058 folder to the drive.
Shutdown the computer.
6. Restart with the drive plugged in and when you get the option to choose a different start up drive choose the thumb drive, (I got the option by pressing F12 during boot - I’m not sure if you can do this from the Mac by option booting).
7. It will boot to a C:\ prompt. cd to the 1058 directory by typing cd 1058.
8. Type dir to make sure your flash files are there.
9. Type go.
10. Sit back and enjoy the show. (It’ll be a short one).

Is my assumption correct that due to the installation of a NON-EFI GTX-670 I can't read out the "PCI" section of System Profiler?

I’m not sure what’s wrong with your PCI bus, do you have another card of any sort that you can insert?

As for other applications, I know of none on the Mac side though I’m sure there are plenty for Windows.

So far the people I’ve seen, (only a couple mind), with problems seem to be running Subsystem ID: 0x9182, I’m 9230.

I have the 0x9182 Subsystem ID: and I don't have any issues with the Solo X2. The speeds are as expected at just under 500GB/s in BlackMagic Speed test.

Sorry to hijack. When you have your boot system running off the Apricorn Velocity Solo x2, does the Mac Pro runs warmer comparing to having the System running off the regular Sata bay?

Thanks

Not that I’ve noticed. The only thing I can suggest is that maybe it’s retsricting flow to the GPU?
