It was insanely expensive and zero transition from Touch ID to Face ID. I do think if they'd managed to keep Touch ID somehow and not had such a high price, I might of considered it.

Then again maybe not, I'm still bitter over inferior Intel in my 7 Plus and no headphone jack.

Reading the forums, YouTube comments, Twitter posts etc, I feel like this is, for most people, the only reason to hate on the iPhone X. I just can’t understand that mentality, I can understand people are upset about the price because 1000$ is a hell lot of money to pay for a phone but at least admit that this is a solid phone overall and a major upgrade from the previous iPhone.

Also, @eyoungren, I know you personally said you didn’t like the iPhone X but at least you gave a solid explanation and a valid reason about why you won’t buy this phone (which is the huge camera bump) instead of just hating on the phone and dismissing all of its killer features because of the high price like most people do.
The iPhone X is a good iPhone! My issue is with aesthetics only. It's personal preference.

To deny that the phone performs just because I don't like how it looks is just…stupid!

I think when it is all said and done, Apple will have probably expected 8/8+/X to sell more on a combined basis than they are currently. I think each individual phone is doing “fine,” but I think this year was tougher due to:

- High cost of iPhone X
- Lack of plus iPhone X model
- Lack of excitement/buzz about iPhone 8
- Lack of carrier promotions for X
- High quality of iPhone 7
- Focus on things like AirPods and Apple Watch among the Apple consumer

I’m gonna guess that all of this caused more customers to just hang on to their current phone than they would have anticipated

Apple really needs the $799 iPhone to be the buzziest, highest demand iPhone if they are going to have “spectacular” blowout sales. With a “higher end” iPhone out there as well, that is a genuine challenge.

The X is doing fine.

Predictions:
  • There will be a Mid sized LCD model to fill the mid - low tier.
  • There will be a new X and X plus (OLED) to satisfy Mid - high tier
  • There maybe be a new SE (LCD) for budget minded.
It's not about disappointment, poor sales or regrets on technology... Apple has a plan and each phone has a specific place in its lineup.
When shareholders are disappointed, nothing is fine.

Nope. Everyone had their own reasons. You owe explanation to no one but I'm always thankful when you do. It's very honest.
I find explaining my reasons makes it easier to comprehend - even if I don't owe anyone an explanation.

People may agree or disagree, but people find it hard to accept that you make a specific decision for no reason.

I blame that on my mother. :D

She's a teacher so explaining stuff comes naturally. :D

Ah yeah... So you're predicting a miss on guidance or a miss analysts' estimates? Would that be earrings or just the shipments of iPhones? Pleas give us details.

If the iPhone X cost $799 - everyone would have bought one. Cost is the only factor.

Most people don't want their technology to change, so even faced with equal pricing I think the average iPhone user would by the 8 because it looks and works just like their old iPhone. My mother probably spoke for the majority of iPhone owners when she said about the 8+ "It works exactly like my 6+, but it has a much better camera!"

Folks who are more into the latest technology, but are on the fence with the X because of price, would be the group likely to purchase the X for $799. I'm not sure how many people we are talking about though. I think a lot of people who really wanted the X were okay paying the price. I was okay with paying an extra $200 in order to get dual cameras in a smaller than Plus iPhone. That by itself was enough of a reason for me, but there are also other reasons why I am glad I bought the X. Sure I would rather have paid less, but that is true for just about anything in this world.

My grandparents Love their X but my parents don’t like the X and went with the 8 plus instead.

Definitely a fair point. “Everyone” was a bit of an exaggeration, but you’re right, most would rather not have to adapt to new technology when their existing tech works just fine.

I think a lot of us (Tech orientated enthusiasts) are more apt to be about purchasing the latest device. In the outside world of Macrumors/tech sites, others simply do no not care enough for a $1000 iPhone. I happen to be well versed on tech in general, but those around me have barely even heard of the iPhone X, let alone observed one in public. I for one appreciate tech in general, but the outside world doesn't Have the focus we do, where Apple is always in the spotlight.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. The iPhone X is the best iPhone ever made, hands down. I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 4 and haven’t been this excited about an iPhone since the 4. The screen in the X is stunning, the camera on the X is stunning, the battery is great, the device looks and feels great. Asking the the iPhone X is worth $1000 is purely opinion. Some will say it’s too expensive, some will say they bought their family of 4 iPhone x’s and said it was worth every penny.

I 100000% agree

I am afraid you are in the minority on the Touch ID. Most who have used the X prefer the FaceID. We all know it did not work for you, but to those who own the X, they are happy.
And I’m happy you all like it. I’m not arguing that Apple should take it way. I’m just saying they should add Touch ID to make everyone happy. If there’s both options no one will be able to complain about unlocking There phone. I guarantee they would’ve sold a ton more of X’s if they had the Touch ID option on them.

Good grief they still make phones with TouchID, so you have a choice. It would increase the price to put both techs on the same device. So they have two different phones. Stop complaining because you made a bad choice.
Not complaining $1k phone should have both. Samsung’s have both. And the note 8 is under $1k. And I’m sorry I didn’t want a hugh bezel phone that’s why I left the iPhone 7 and went to the s8 for awhile. They don’t make the same phone with Touch ID. So take that bullsh** somewhere else dumb***

I don’t know who you are speaking for, but I own the X and FaceID works about half the time for me. I didn’t expect it to be perfect, but it isn’t even close to working as well as was presented by Apple.

Compound that with the (IMO) poorly implemented app switching and the notch, I’m not totally sure I’d make the decision to buy again.

Atleast I’m not the only one that has an issue with Face ID not working. I agree if I knew it sucked this bad I probably wouldn’t of bought the phone. People were saying well first gen Touch ID was slow to. That doesn’t mean come out with something faster then replace it once again with something extremely slow like Face ID.

I'm responding because you are quoting my commentary on the g1 touch ID. It was very slow but it worked. However, I didn't mean it as an excuse for a Slow Face ID. In fact I find Face ID VERY capable.
  • I'm sure it's been suggested to you many times... I recommend you try setting up touch ID again.
  • Do so without a hat or glasses on.
  • Make sure you are in a well lit room during the day if possible.
  • Go back to using you phone normally and when it fails be sure train it by entering your password to allow it to learn. I personally have never had to train my phone this way but it has worked for others.
  • If your problems are with mirrored or polarized glasses I reckoned turning off the attention aware feature.
And that's it. Really it's no different from touch ID. In those first few months people were complaining about degrading fingerprints and problems with the initial setup. But we all learned how to properly setup a new phone with touch ID and "adjusting out grip" so it properly taped the full surface of out finer. Or multiple figures as some of us preferred.

In every day use I find touch ID way faster than my Personal 6 Plus or work provided 7. I think in a face off touch ID will win but when it comes to every day unlocking, use, apple pay, keychain access ETC... Face ID as already ready to do. no fuss no muss. it's truly a dream to use for me. But maybe i have a more agreeable face than others. I can't say for sure.

OK, OK, there are two of you!

I doubt it - cost isn't really a factor in the iPhone X for enthusiasts - I bought mine on an impulse already owning the 8 and don't regret it one bit; it's the best phone I've ever owned.

I think not everyone who says $1000 is too expensive is a "hater". One can love every bit of technology is a Ferrari LaFerrari, but not have $7million to buy one.. doesn't mean they are all haters. I think those of us who have been blessed with the means, or have parents paying for a $1000 phone need to show some grace towards those who can't.
