I haven’t seen any reports about it being successful like the old days. Do you guys think this may be the end of the line for iMacs? M3 iMac may be the last ones?

I'm loving mine, so I don't really care how it's selling.

The focus is on laptops these days and will be for the foreseeable future. But the iMac clearly sells enough for Apple to keep releasing them. Perhaps it's more of a niche compared to the old days, but there's still a place for it.

It probably sells in a slow trickle compared to any MacBook, but there's enough of a volume to make it worth Apple's while. What is quite surprising is how many of them end up as the machine of choice in hotel check in desks & various retail stores. Clearly the all-in-one still has a huge appeal for business & the home user especially.

For me its the perfect machine. I work from home and really appreciate the big screen. I have a M1 Air for when I need to travel but 99% of my computer related time is spent on the iMac. I'm certain it's not going anywhere and perhaps the next time it's refreshed (M5?) there might be a >30inch 'Pro' option that's very strongly rumoured to be in the works.

I think the M3 iMac is good value for money. You'd be hard pushed to find a machine as powerful with a display as good anywhere else for the same money. 4.5K displays just aren't really a thing in the Windows PC market. The speakers are also very good so it just looks so clean and tidy on my desk. No external crap needed. That's the appeal of the iMac.

I agree.

I upgraded my M1 iMac to M3 iMac. Laptops are good for work, but at home I prefer an all-in-one like the iMac. Have to admit I also went for the compact design and to avoid the hassle with separate monitors. I have an M1 Mac Mini for Kodi sitting under my TV, but I found the HDMI port really flawed. As some other people reported I had to resort to an USB-C to HDMI iso using its own output due to issues with flickering pixels. Probably due to x-talk/EMI Apple should have addressed better (they have a CE marking).

iMac is the heart of the company.

Unless something changes with current management, it's not going away anytime soon. It's their only education play for Mac and it's popular enough in medical, retail and hospitality industries.

If you're going to make it for those segments, might as well offer it to regular consumers too. It doesn't matter if most consumers are going portable.

MacBook Airs are quite common on campuses. I was at my local courthouse's Jury pool the other day, and the laptops I saw were mostly MBAs.
No but for like static computer terminals, the iMac is absolutely perfect. My university had a brand new library block built (just after I left! 😭), and equipped it with dozens of the then-new original iMac. These were so perfect, as they didn't need separate monitors and towers, so actually saved space, as well as being much easier logistically and ergonomically. They were even secured with Kingston cable locks, not that anyone was going to try to sneak out with a 44lb machine! So, the new models will be just as perfect for modern institutions. I see a disproportionate number of iMacs, mainly the smaller models (soz all 27" fans), in reception areas and the like. The iMac definitely still has a place.

I have owned two iMac units of which finally were replaced with one new iMac M3 and could not be more happy. I am not doing any heavy duty computing but love the speed, screen quality and keyboard on my new M3. I can not stand Apple Mice so I went with the Logi MX Master 3S.

My iPad Pro still is used more than any other Apple device in my house, but when it comes to keyboard intensive use, the iMac is perfect for me. Takes up little space on the desk and looks great!

Apple doesn't release unit sales number breakdowns, so the most indicator we'd see is supply chain wonks who might pick up on demand from suppliers and price pressures from third party retailers like Best Buy and Amazon (i.e.: continued aggressive discounts might mean soft sales).

I don't think the iMac will be discontinued but I do believe Apple has repositioned it back to its roots as a consumer/family/kiosk computer. The various configurations of Mini and Studio now cover the consumer, prosumer, and professional range for desktops.

I ordered it. Silver 24gb, 2TB. Also Satechi Slim dock and 2tb SATA SSD to go in there. This replaces my Late 2013 iMac. I’m just retired and no longer and want to do any real work anymore! LOL Maybe some iMovie stuff. I just want it to last 10 years like my Late 2013 and be more comfortable with Apple iCloud services. The old iMac is really struggling with that Compatibility.

I can't remember the source, but I remember reading that iMac sales were 13% of Apple's total Mac sales.

13 percent.

Macbooks/laptops are something like 70-80%.

Edit: Found some data (estimated).

Mac sales are a very small piece of the pie for Apple profits.
Pretty much every other division at Apple brings in more revenue.
They really only keep it around as a dev environment for the IOS devices.

All I can tell you is that I am absolutely thrilled with my M3 iMac. It replaced an Intel 27" and rocks for video editing. It's blazingly fast, compared to what I had before.

Notebooks are just so much more popular compared to desktop computers. I suppose anyone with the M1 variant for most usage cases is more than suitable for most needs. Any individual power user which may use for more "pro" tasks, such as video editing, graphic design, engineering, etc; which may benefit from the M3 chip, I suppose would prefer the Mac Studio, due to the I/O available, "Pro" chips with additional cores or better thermals (less throttling).

Small is relative. it’s not iPhone juggernaut, but it’s hardly insignificant.

$7.2 Billion is still bigger than iPad (for the quarter linked), and a lot of companies would be happy to have that. And it was over $10B Previously.

This is only one anecdotal data point, but for what it is worth:

My wife ordered a BTO iMac (16 GB, 1 TB) on 5 Dec and was given an expected date of 21 Dec for arrival at the Apple store. It actually arrived there on 12 Dec. What with it being the holiday season, I was surprised at the estimated date of the 21st and even more surprised when it arrived 9 days earlier.

Either Apple has been making extra inventory on speculation or there is a lack of buyers.

I want a new iMac but not at 24"... 27"+ so I haven't upgraded.
Thats why I skipped the M1 iMac and waited. 2 years or so later, M3 no 27" and from what Apple and experts keeps saying, there will be no 27" iMac. Either way for me, coming from a Late 2013, 21.5", the M3 is going to be a fun machine to have.

My order says estimated delivery to my house Jan 3 - 5th. I ordered 24gb RAM and 2TB HD with Magic Trackpad and AppleCare Plus Subscription.

I cannot find any iMac sales statistics in any of your links? The question was not about Mac vs iPhone, but it was about iMac specifically.
