Very true. Too bad my brain is wired 100% the opposite!
Try headspace. :)

I'm the proud owner of a one month old old iPad Pro! And I'm content! I wouldn't have been prior to learning and daily practices of meditation!

I think im gonna do it. I shouldnt, but its just too tempting. How much did yall sell the 9.7 for? I have a 128gb wifi for reference
I sold my 9.7 wifi 128gb with ASK on eBay on Sunday for $540 which was on the high end of what they were going for. As has been mentioned, there are a lot for sell on the market right now.

probably going to jump on the bandwagon and get one later next week when im allowed to start charging things on my credit card i cant right now because im closing on a house. now to find who has the best trade in value?

While in most cases, I do think future proofing means spending more money on specs you most likely won't need (and that's assuming your device doesn't break down by the time you get to the "future"), I still think some purchases make more sense than others.

For example, the latest surface products don't feature USB C and Microsoft is willing to sell you an adapter... but the future where USB C will be ubiquitous is around the corner... So if you buy one of those devices, it's annoying that you will have to be carrying that dongle everywhere in the next year or two. Makes more sense to get a laptop with at least a USB C port, for future proofing.
Right but then there's always the question of pricing. New tech trickles down eventually.

Do you buy the fully specced $1000 model today even if you currently don't need the features in order to future proof or do you get the mid-range $500 device and save the extra $500 for a future replacement? Personally, I've usually found better value with mid-range than going with low-end or high-end.

As it pertains to tablets, the Kindle Fire, etc. are the low-end. 2017 iPad and iPad Air 2 are the mid-range (or used Pro 9.7 with a killer deal). Current Pro models are high-end.

I bought my iPad Pro 9.7and smart case when it first came out last year. Full price. There is no way I can afford a 10.5 iPad pro at this time. I wouldn't be able to get no where near what I paid for my iPad Pro and smart case in case I wanted to sell it and apply the sale to the 10.5 iPad Pro. i'm sure a lot of other 9.7 iPad Pro owners are in the same situation.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I am tempted of course but only for the 512GB model over the screen size. AT&T would only offer $265.00 for my 256GB iPad Pro model I purchased a few months ago. I only use it for games, reading, movies and the basics. I'm holding out for a while though. I can't see myself forking out $949.00 for something similar I already have now.

Apple definitely threw a curveball when they release the 9.7 iPad Pro and now, approximately a year later, the release two new versions of the iPad Pro with a 10.5/12.9. For those who upgraded to the 9.7 Pro when it released within the last year, certainly are not in the easiest situation with the resale value declining rather quickly due to the saturated market of the 9.7 Pro's and everybody upgrading to the newest iPads.

From my perspective, I see the 9.7 iPad Pro more as an iPad Air 3, that barely made it a year in their lineup considering the newest iPads and enhanced displays.

The 4 GB RAM is very very tempting. I use the 9.7 iPad pro for writing, research and note taking, so multi tasking matters. It's a great companion device to my 12" macbook and is most useful when on the move since it has LTE.

The multitasking ability of iOS 11 really excites me and is something that I believe i can definitely use. Yes, the iPad pro 9.7 is still an awesome device, but from what I've read here, it's 2GB RAM means it can't utlitse the full extent of multitasking in iOS 11.

In fact, the new Files App may even mean that I could conveniently store and access all my files in the iPad locally. Im tempted to get a 256 or 512 GB version and use it as my primary device. The Macbook can then be my secondary device.

I made the switch and love it, love it so much I see myself holding on to this one for a while, only other improvements i would want are force touch and water proofing, but with 256gb storage, 4gb ram, the a10x, the larger and pro-motion display I'm a happy camper. Gave my son my iPad Pro 9.7 as the resale is kind of low.

Two biggest things I notice going from the 9.7" to 10.5" are ProMotion and the 4GB of RAM. I haven't seen an app refresh yet! It is amazing to have multiple tabs open, watch a YouTube video, go to Tweetbot, and then come back to safari with all of the tabs still open. The ProMotion just makes it all buttery smooth and spoils me now because I don't want to look at my iPhone lol.

Air 2 resale was affected by the $100 price drop and regular sales. Same goes for the Air a year before (plus dropping the 32GB model). There's just too much supply of used iPads now that resale value just isn't as good as it once was unless you get a nice discount upfront.

Even the first gen Pro 12.9 256GB LTE with 4GB RAM is seeing a significant price drop from the original $1229 pricing. I think the Pro 12.9 actually nets a $100 bigger loss compared to its little brother. Reckon even if the Pro 9.7 shipped with 4GB RAM, we'd still be seeing low resale value.

New iPads get released every 12-18 months anyway. Pretty sure there were rumors of a 10.5" model already circulating back then. I can understand the frustration of those who purchased within the last couple of months because they just couldn't wait for the new models any longer. Those who purchased upon release had 15 good months with the Pro 9.7 and it's not like the iPads are gonna stop working or be dog slow all of a sudden. The reason the Pro 9.7 was dropped from the line-up is because it's too expensive to manufacture as a budget model. The budget model is the 2017 iPad with a slower A9 SoC (moreso in terms of graphics rather than CPU).

Even the new iPads are using a big.LITTLE setup. It would be quite interesting if there's somehow a way to benchmark just the slower Zephyr cores and see how they perform in comparison to older Apple A-series SoCs. Alas, benchmarks trigger the switch to the faster Hurricane cores.

Future firmware upgrades might be feature limited for the Pro 9.7 owing to RAM but otherwise, performance should be quite decent.

I will wait for 2018 to upgrade and decide which model gets my $$$.

Why ? Throwing my 2 cents here:

1) need to see if Apple will slim down the 12.9" iPad (bezels, no home button, smaller screen)

2) will Apple stick with lightning or jump to USBC?

3) new versions for Apple Pencil and/or Apple Smart Keyboard

4) A11X on 10nm technology should allow for higher performance/lower power consumption/smaller battery

5) advancements on LTE/Wifi/Bluetooth technology

6) wait for iOS 11 to mature (Jan-Mar 2018) as well as iPad apps to finally be resolution independent or properly designed for larger screen

Itens 2 & 5 are for future proofing (I plan to keep my next iPad for 3-4 years after two 2yr cycles)

Itens 1 & 3 are key because of usability

Item 4 is my inner geek wanting to see faster performance, longer battery life (king of the hill)

Item 6 is important as I've seen enough complaints of fuzzy fonts with blown up apps on larger screens

Whoever updates today is getting a great iPad. The screen seems amazing and A10X is a monster. Having used my iPad Pro for only 1 year, I can be patient and wait.

Lol, Items #4 & 6 are why I opted for the iPad Pro 9.7 last year instead of getting the Pro 12.9. Figured might as well wait for software to catch up before I get the big iPad.

Item 6 is also partly why I'm not in a hurry to update to the the Pro 10.5 right now. That said, if I weren't buying the 12.9 this year, 512GB would've made the Pro 10.5 an automatic purchase.

thing is, I have a 9.7 pro which offers that for 0$

I'll throw this out there. I did a full secure backup of my 9.7 and then restored that backup to my 10.5. This appears to have saved the settings because I am getting full use of my office suite on my 10.5.

that's good, I'd be wary of microsoft pulling the rug out tho

That's nuts MS doesnt charge for 9.7 but they do for sizes above that

A ton of people have 9.7 iTablets or under (air 2, 2017 ipad, pro 9.7, pre-air 2 devices, mini's)

That doesnt seem wise on their part,

But if ya reap the benefits :D

This post makes me sad. There's nothing more infuriating than watching pages reload. :(
