Who would want a 8inch phablet anyway? because it is too big to be a phone and you look stupid when you are on a phone call with it in public.

And i think phablets are fads.

For about 20+ years all Macintosh Computers were classed as Niche products due to their tailoring to certain professional customers and price point over the PC.

I predict gadget mania will follow the same path TV has. They will always be with us, but people will care about them less and less.
