Are they really going to update Mac Pro in 2013?

Here's hoping for a redesign. I have been wanting a Mac Pro but since my MBP will do me fine, I am holding off for another year.
Obviously no one knows for sure, but based on the reports by Apple PR (which is a little unusual) as well as the supposed email from Tim Cook (which again is a bit unusual to be that up front about products), it sounds like they will. I'm holding out for another year and if they don't release a truly updated Mac Pro, I'll pick up a Haswell "New Macbook Pro"....
Maybe, maybe not, who knows? Maybe they will wait for Haswell. Maybe they will tell us then ipad is good enough for mpro users in 2013. Maybe they will cancel logic or other pro apps. What happened was damage control. But the damage was already done. The point is there is no guarantee they will or won't. It's a gamble hanging on now, but, clearly, the desktops are at the bottom of the list of priorities either way.

Guess the golden question at this point is - are they good for their word?
It's really a golden opportunity for a third player to come up with their own OS and hardware. Maybe an Adobe / Linux combo?

They probably will. Even if they just started work on a new Mac Pro today they still have at least half a year and at most 1.5 years.
I can just picture it. Oh yeah, ummm, guys, we're going to make that new Mac Pro after all.
The PR reaction from Apple to the uproar is so unusual that I interpret it to mean there will definitely be a newly designed Mac Pro (or Mac Pro equivalent) next year. Apple controls their message pretty well (even if that often means no message).

Make it clear you want more clarification on the Mac Pro and Pro software.
I now have about 20 people who are going Hackintosh because they are sick of being kept in the dark.
What do I say to clients? "sorry wait for next year cause someone at Apple said maybe....."
Nah I'm not longer holding them back and it's Apple's fault.

The whole management of the Mac Pro has been a fiasco IMO.
However, in a bizarre way this could present a real opportunity for Apple.
If they came out with a really impressive redesigned Tower at price point more people could afford (£400 - £500 less),what was a damaging PR nightmare could turn into a PR Coup!
Apple has the ball now, it's up to to them how they play it!

This "It's coming next year" mass delusion is hilarious - there is NO reason for apple to wait until next year - massive improvements in hardware are there NOW.

What Apple SHOULD have done......
Exactly what was shown at WWDC, EXCEPT:
Drop the MacBookPro Non-Retina Models.
Update the Mac Pro
Update the Mac Mini
Update the iMacs w/ Retina ASAP, and give customers an idea as to WHEN those models might be ready.

I bet that Apple will update the Mac Pro next year or earlier; otherwise, Apple will loose much credibility.
That Apple does fail to update the Mac Pro is an indication that Apple will start to go downhill as other big companies did.
On the other hand, Apple will certainly become weaker and weaker as dictated by the history. If it does things right, it can postpone the starting time for it to go downhill.

I've been following Apple rumors every day for 5 years and I can tell you that they will DEFINITELY be releasing a new mac pro next year. What month next year who knows (could be as late as December) but it will definitely come. They're PR reaction is so unusual and un-apple like that if you really know how to read apple rumors (which I do) this is a sure thing. Whenever they really want the public to know something they always tell their trusted sources (NY Times, WSJ, and Forbes) to spread the word (it happened with iPhone on Verizon, new iPhones, iPad introduction, and many more rumors). Also, they took the VERY unusual step (I've never seen it done) of backtracking the "new" designation of the mac pro on the apple store. All of this combined with Tim Cook emailing macrumors himself and responding to the facebook page is just a plain admission that this is happening, period. For a secretive company, this is as much as I have seen them EVER do, so much so that I wouldn't even call it a rumor. I would not even be surprised if after WWDC Tim Cook and the big whigs all have a meeting to figure out how to "fast track" the next mac pro for release by WWDC next year. I personally see WWDC as the best place for them to release it and am almost certain that of all the times in 2013 to release it, WWDC will be it. One thing that is a huge unknown however is what hardware they will release it with. For all we know it could be on Sandy bridge and not even Ivy bridge at the time (as Intel has yet to release Ivy bridge Xeon support).
OH come on. Apple has has 4 years to redesign a square box. Ferrari does it in less than a year .

If Apple thought the Mac Pro was a priority they could do it in a month. Apple is a phone and gadget company. Time to wake up and smell the coffee.
They make more money selling apps and songs in one day that all the MacPro's they have ever produced. I'm talking PROFIT, not sales. Apps and songs is nearly 100% profit.
The there is the kickback from all the phone companies. Seriously would you spend time reaching over a $100.00 bill to pick up a dime?
