I have had every one they’ve ever released (and bought multiples of quite a few of those for my kids/grandkids), with the exception of the mini 3, iPP 9.7 (although one of my daughters does have that one), and iPP 10.5, which I want, but am afraid to give up my 12.9 for.

Heck, just this past week I sold off 2 mini 2s, 2 mini 4s, and bought 1 new 2018 iPad and 3 new 2017s (great price - couldn’t pass it up) for my grandkids. One already had a 2017 ipad, so he’s the one that got the new 2018 and handed the 2017 down to his little brother. You KNOW you’ve got a problem when you feel the need to keep even the 2yo up to date on her iPad.

It’s a sickness for sure, and I definitely have it.

Great topic! Yes, that is me too. I count it as an addiction if you spend more on upgrades than is rational.

The iPad was also the device that brought me over to Apple.

I have always followed tech closely, and when the first iPad came out, I was a huge non-believer. Too many compromises, and simply a large iPod for seniors.

Then, when the iPad 2 came out, I gave it to my wife as an anniversary present. Of course, she was totally sceptical of my true intentions. Yes, it was kind of an experiment. Since I really did not want one, yet I could not ignore that fact that the device was taking the tech industry by storm and I wanted to really know why. So, I just wanted to see what she would do with it - BTW she is a very “analog”.

Well, at first it sat unused, then one day, you would not get it out of her hands. I could not even use it if I wanted to. I then waited to get the iPad 3 for my own use, and I got my son the orgininal Mini.

From there, it was a succession of upgrades to the Air 1 (I skipped the 4) Air 2, Pro 9.7 and Pro 10.5 LTE 256 which I use now. With the exception of the Pro 9.7, each successive model upgrade I gave the my older model to my wife and sold hers. I was lucky to be living in Singapore, where it is very easy to sell your old tech items online for a decent price.

So now, we have an Air 2 for her, and my own use a the Pro 10.5. I have repossed the Mini from my son, but it is not so useful anymore and I primarily use it as a reader.

It seems as if the 10.5 Pro and iOS has finally evolved enought and has become my main computing device. I truly love to use it, much more than my Mac.

I sold all and got...

iPad Pro 10.5” (2017) *for home.
The iPad 6, 9.7” (2018) *for on the go.

First of all, yes I think you have a problem.

Secondly, I don't understand why you need the 10.5 pro for home and 9.7 (2018) for on the go? They are virtually identical in physical dimensions so it's not like you're saving much in travel space. I would think it would be much easier to simply use the same device. Is it a charging concern (i.e. always keep your "on the go" iPad charged up and at the ready while home)?

For the record here is my (metaphorical) iPad drawer

iPad 2
iPad 3 (given by the MBA program I entered, otherwise I never would have gotten it)
iPad mini 2
iPad Pro 9.7

The iPad 2, 3 were gifted to my gf and mom (who still use them) and I sold my mini 2 when I was buying the Pro 9.7

Cheaper to replace if it's lost or stolen?

We do something similar with phones. Instead of buying cheap, unlocked Android smartphones, we keep our old iPhones for international travel. Come to think of it, did that with iPads, too a couple of years ago. Left my iPad Pro 9.7 in the US and used some older iPads during the trip: 64GB iPad 3 Wi-Fi, 16GB iPad 4 LTE and 16GB iPad Air LTE. We passed down the older iPads to some cousins at the end of the trip.

Yes, I am too.
Every model that I’ve purchased has had LTE and the highest capacity that was available at launch.

iPad 2
iPad 3
iPad Air
iPad Mini
iPad Air 2
iPad Mini 2
iPad Pro 12.9
iPad Pro 9.7
iPad Pro 10.5
iPad Pro 12.9 (2017)

All iPads are still in use except the original iPad and iPad 2, they still function, but aren’t being used. I personally still use the mini 2 (rarely), Pro 10.5 and Pro 12.9 (2017), the others have been passed to my husband and daughters.

Mostly sold or gotten rid of old iPads when getting new ones,

I have also jail broken every single one Ive had :D :D

iPad
IPad 2
IPad 3
IPad 4
IPad Mini
IPad Mini 2
IPad Mini 3
IPad Mini 4
IPad Pro 12.9 G2

At this point I am not sure if I will go any further.
IPads have become less of a need with 2-1 laptops.

Some of you are pretty extreme haha.
I’m almost opposite. Only had 3 in total and didn’t get my first one until 2014. I had always been interested in the iPad since the original came out, but mostly as a potential digital sketchbook. That wasn’t a reality at the time (no pencil and screen too small), so it wasn’t until I decided to go all digital for books that I found a use for the iPad, specifically the mini, more specifically the mini 3. Then unexpectedly the gen 1 12.9 iPP and pencil came out, the perfect digital sketchbook, so I ecstatically grabbed that. Since then I updated the mini 3 to a mini 4. So I have my gen 1 12.9 iPP and mini 4 and both fill their roles so well that I’m not looking to upgrade either for a long time (UNLESS some specific but unlikely features are added).

I am not. Got an iPad 2 in 2011 and kept it 3.5 years. It held up very well (kept it on iOS 6), and I only sold it because I got a terrific deal on an iPad Air 2, which is now at about 3.5 years also and going very strong.

I like iPads and have a place for them in my device lineup, but given the way I use them (95% content consumption), there’s no need at all to have the most current one.

I’m very much a minimalist, so up until 2015 I always had a MacBook, so never felt the need for an iPad. Then in 2015 I bought the first gen 12.9 iPad Pro and a few months later I sold my MacBook. Since then I’ve been iPad & iPhone only, and then in 2017 I sold my 12.9 and bought the new 10.5. :)

I’ve only owned two myself. 1st Air and 4th Mini. I currently use the Mini.
My wife uses an iPP 9.7.
I might get an iPP too someday (this year or next year, depending on what they announce).

iPad 3 (Retina), iPad Air 2 (Triple-Core, 2GB RAM). These were the only two reasonable shopping opportunities for me. The iPad 2017 is tempting price-wise, but I think I’ll wait for the bezelless iPad Pro. However I still consider myself an iPad-oholic. I use the damn thing all the time, every day.

I had (still have it) a Newton Message Pad 120 along with a Global Village modem.
Then i got a iPad 3.
And then iPad Air 2. Still use it on a daily basis for both work and home.
Its not quantity, but quality.

They literally litter the house... But I would not say we're a bunch of iPadholics. They just don't die. We still have the first iPad we bought... LOL.

Just. Die. Already.

I have had the iPad 3, iPad Pro 9.7, and iPad Pro 10.5. The 10.5 was the one that made me move to iOS only for work and personal. I will upgrade likely every year from here on out.

I've owned every iPad, including the mini's with the exception of the one that was just released at the education event. I don't think I see myself getting that one, but who knows!

iPad 1
iPad 3
iPad 4
iPad Air
iPad mini 4
iPad Pro 12.9 2017

I'd like to trade the Mini in for the 2018 iPad, ready to get rid of the smaller size altogether.

Counting all ipads (mine, my wife, and daughter):

ipad 1 (2010) (still have it lol)
ipad mini (wife)
ipad mini 2 (me then gave it away)
ipad mini 2 (wife, my daughter uses this now)
ipad 3 (me) WORST IPAD EVER. traded it in for ipad air later.
ipad air 1 (me)
ipad pro 12.9" 2015 (me - sold it for the newer ipad pros)
ipad 2017 (wife - current)
ipad pro 12.9" (me-returned. size is awkward to use but great for typing)
ipad pro 10.5" (me - current. best ipad i've owned)

Yep - I have the sickness as well.
I have owned:
  • iPad (original - Wifi)
  • iPad 2 (cellular)
  • iPad 3 (cellular)
  • iPad Air (cellular)
  • iPad Air 2 (WiFi)
  • iPad mini (cellular)
  • iPad mini 2 (cellular) x2
  • iPad mini 4 (cellular)
  • iPad Pro 12.5 (wifi)
  • iPad Pro 9.7 (cellular)
  • iPad 10.5 (cellular)

I have slimmed down my "stock" recently (gave away as gifts). At the moment, I have the 10.5 Pro, iPad mini 2 and, of course, my original (not in use, just display). I also have the iPad 2 kicking around as a picture frame.

I have to admit, I do miss having two pencil-enabled iPads (having recently given the 12.9" away). It mostly stayed home, but it was nice to have one to go to when I drain the battery on the other. Depending on what the next mid-size Pro looks like, I may pick that one up and keep the 10.5 around.

I love tech but I hate device redundancy, and the feeling that I’m buying something that I don’t really need.

Therefore, I have only owned an iPad Mini 4, which I then sold just days after acquiring my 6th Gen iPad. I don’t expect to buy another iPad for at least 2-3 years.

I hate redundancy too, but I have two iPads and three modern iPhones ... it sorta just happened

All jail broken so I won’t let any of
Them go :D

9.7 pro and 12.9 gen 2 pro makes sense For different use case

SE I’d get too little to make reselling it worth it

And 7plus is really to test tweaks before rolling them out on my X to be safe, and kinda a backup in case I shatter my X. Way more tempting to sell my 7+ but it has Touch ID gen 2, and an excellent p3 display (albeit LED) capable of superior video watching from a size standpoint (if watching a video at home while charging X, for example), and I think I’d miss it as soon as I sold it even tho I don’t really put my SIM in it anymore

I never wanna be SOL without jailbreak :D I’m a fiend

I'm an iPad fan from the day the 1st gen was announced. I remember how the tech media was caught off-guard when Apple announced the price which was 1/2 of the $1000 they were expecting... I pre-ordered that 1st gen iPad and the keyboard dock. THAT was a great combination... sadly Apple never followed that up with another keyboard dock.

I'm not an iPad addict, but a fan:

iPad 9.7 (2010) (currently being used as a "picture tube" in a vintage TV)
iPad 2 (2011) (currently being used for church service projection)
iPad 4 (2013) (passed on to my adult daughter, still in use)
iPad Air 2 (2015) (my wife's current iPad)
iPad 12.9 Pro (2016) (my current iPad, daily productivity device)
iPad Mini 4 (2016) (my current iPad, daily media consumption/gaming device)

I'm looking to pass the 12.9 Pro on to my wife and getting the 2018 iPad to replace it.

Why are you downsizing to the non pro 9.7”? Or do you mean you’ll be getting the next pro when it comes out this year?
