So an odd topic but I’m curious if anyone else here is kind of as crazy as me with buying/owning multiple iPads...
I own/owned at one point...
The iPad 9.7” (2010)
The iPad 2, 9.7” (2011)
The iPad 4, 9.7” (2012)
iPad Air 9.7” (2013)
iPad Mini 2, 7.9” (2013)
iPad Air 2, 9.7” (2014)
iPad Mini 4, 7.9” (2015)
iPad Pro 12.9” (2015)
iPad Pro 1.5, 9.7” (2016)
iPad Pro 2, 12.9”. (2017)
The iPad 5, 9.7” (2017)
iPad Pro 10.5” (2017)
The iPad 6, 9.7” (2018)
I had many of those at once but sold them to pay for newer gens. For about 2 years I stuck with...
The iPad 9.7” (2010)
iPad Mini 4, 7.9” (2015)
iPad Pro 12.9” (2017)
iPad Pro 9.7” (2016)
I didn’t need more than one obviously, but I bought so many because I had a problem... lol.
Plus, I got them on good sales and thought I’d have ones to use on the go while others stayed home. But since most didn’t have the power like the Pro, I never took them anywhere. I couldn’t justify the ones without pencil support, so I sold all and got...
iPad Pro 10.5” (2017) *for home.
The iPad 6, 9.7” (2018) *for on the go.
***Again this is an odd topic, but I’m just curious how everyone else deals with or buys iPads. Lol
Kallum.
Reading your post,I am not questioning anymore...

You were correct with your first thought. I'm planning on downsizing my from 12.9 iPad Pro to the 2018 iPad. I could go into great detail as to the reasons, but in a nutshell, after 2+ years of pushing to use the Pro as my primary mobile device as an alternative to my macbook air (with great success in many areas), I see that Apple isn't interested in moving the iPad beyond where it is for the foreseeable future. Why are you downsizing to the non pro 9.7”? Or do you mean you’ll be getting the next pro when it comes out this year?
I’m surprised people still have the 3. That was my bogey device. Horrible performance due to the retina screen and no CPU increase to compensate, and then they did a short cycle to the next device so it was tricky to upgrade so soon
I have had them all from Gen 1.
Currently have a 2017 12.9. Wife has 10.5 pro.
About to try a new 9.7, all wifi and cellular.
First of all, yes I think you have a problem.
Secondly, I don't understand why you need the 10.5 pro for home and 9.7 (2018) for on the go? They are virtually identical in physical dimensions so it's not like you're saving much in travel space. I would think it would be much easier to simply use the same device. Is it a charging concern (i.e. always keep your "on the go" iPad charged up and at the ready while home)?
For the record here is my (metaphorical) iPad drawer
iPad 2
iPad 3 (given by the MBA program I entered, otherwise I never would have gotten it)
iPad mini 2
iPad Pro 9.7
The iPad 2, 3 were gifted to my gf and mom (who still use them) and I sold my mini 2 when I was buying the Pro 9.7

For THAT, I don't need the 12.9 Pro. I can do nearly all of those things with the 2018 iPad and Pencil. (the benefits of full UI in split-window mode has not fully materialized since there are still quite a few apps that I use that don't support split-window)
I hear ya on that. Over the last few days I've been using my old Air 2 w/Belkin QODE ultra-thin keyboard case. Wow, that is cramped in comparison to the 12.9 ASK. But I forgot how good that keyboard was overall. Dedicated iPad-specific keys, 2 angle positions, instant/automatic-on, and strong magnets that keep it securely closed. It's funny. For 6 months (before getting the 12.9 Pro) I used that keyboard daily and didn't have any problems. I'm hoping that after a short amount of time, I'll get re-acclimated to it.You know, I think I could go to the 2018 pad myself if I wouldn’t lose my ASK. I’ve been thinking a lot about it because I had already considered going to the 10.5, but dang - lots cheaper to just go with the 2018, and so much portability.

You probably can't. The ASK is still my all-time favorite keyboard. I'm also testing the Air 2 with only a smart cover and using the Logitech K380 keyboard. That allows me to keep that keyboard at my office desk at work and just transport the iPad.I have thought about just having a stand and a keyboard and then a much more portable device. I just don’t know if I could love another keyboard as much as the ASK.
