And where is Windows phone (and Windows 8) today?
Oh please...that has nothing to do with it.
The live lock screen was and is still a great idea that can simply be turned on if you wanted it. It was awesome, particularly for business. I just used to lay my phone in front of me and could see if any work emails or messages came in while the phone was still locked as well as see the current time. It was so light and subtle, no one else would really notice.
And again, at night in "clock mode" on my nightstand, it was always on yet put off practically no light (you could adjust the level)...now I have to reach over in the dark and tap my phone just to see what time it is and then swipe if I want to see if there are any messages. It was a Nokia thing more than a Windows Phone thing at the time.
Live tiles was also pretty amazing. For all the complaining people on here have had over the years about app information on the main screen (weather, time, notification numbers) and placement of apps on the screen, Live tiles had almost all the important info you could ever want right on the main screen without opening the app as well as the ability to resize to show more or less info depending on the app. I still miss that.
Lack of third party support and their inability to move to the single app system (hey...who suddenly decided to launch that this year, 4 years after Microsoft?) sooner is what killed Windows Phone. That doesn't mean it didn't have a bunch of really killer features.
