Question. I have both the Amex Gold and Amex Gold SkyMiles.. but to get coverage I believe you have to buy the phone outright correct?
For Amex Cell Phone protection is only offered on the Platinum or similar cards such as the Skymiles Reserve. You do not need to purchase the phone outright. The only requirement is that you pay your cell phone bill with the card.

Correct. I always use VZ payment plans so I never considered Amex as an option.

I've decided to go without a case this time (I might put on a screen protector though). I can relax and not have to worry about destroying my phone and spending hundreds on repair. This is why I've gone with Apple care plus this time.

I never got Apple Care and never will get Apple Care for any device. I always use a case and all, never got any issue with any Apple product. So no, I dont wanna waste my money for it.

Same here. I always use a screen protector and case from day one. As a result my devices look brand when it's time to sell or trade them in.

Yes, I want to keep it out of a case due to it having rounded edges again, so if it’s comfortable to hold, no case & I’ll get AC+.

Best thing is, I’ll do it per month for £9.

So when I do drop & break it, it’s easy to fix/replace.

15 Pro Max 512 GB. This is an expensive device so yes got applecare+ with loss/theft. I’ve gotten for the kids and wife in the past in each case it has paid for itself or more. I’m definitely in the positive as far as devices, $$ paid for insurance, and Insurance used vs. replacing/repairing the hardware.

I get it for peace of mind. I know it’s expensive for what it is but I’ve just spent 1.2k on a phone. So £10 a month to make sure I’m covered if I break it for me
Is worth it.

Definitely!
And I'll go caseless for my Titanium White without having to worry about micro-scratches like SS

I ordered White PM for my wife and Natural PM for me. Both are 256GB and both have AppleCare+.

Yes, with loss and theft protection. I have a 2yo and 8mo -- we PIF our phones and keep them 2 years. Worth the peace of mind.

Always. I'm clumsy and don't trust myself.

I haven’t for any of my iPhones. Always use a case and screen protector.
Also have had no issues with theft or loss for any iPhone either!

I have one year insurance for everything paid with my CC, up to 2500€. Includes theft and accidental damage.

Honestly never broke an iPhone 🤷‍

Just don’t decide after you break it 🤣

If it is still within 60 days from purchase, why not wait until few days before the deadline to decide or buy it if it is broken in this period before sending it to Apple for repairing? If wait for the last day and pay monthly, will it be cheaper compared with buying a 2-year one after 2-week of purchase?

I regret buying AppleCare+ for my iPad Pro 12.9. No issue and traded it in. I did not take it out of home but for this iPhone 15 Pro Max, I am concerned. How easy it is to have the glass screen at the back or at the front broken? I have a screen protector, camera protector and a case.

I was just saying don’t wait till you break it as in AppleCare is for protection on a working device not something you purchase after damaging it. What is ethical, moral or legal you have to decide for yourself. Some people believe something isn’t illegal unless you get caught. Does Apple have some remote verification you have to do with a device before getting AppleCare? I suspect they do but I’m not sure.

Do you regret paying for car insurance if you don’t get into an accident that year? I realize it’s not exactly the same because car crashes are a lot more expensive and usually cost more than most people could afford, especially when you count in the cost of possible injuries. In a way it’s the same though because you have to weigh in the cost and likelihood of a loss versus the cost of the insurance. If you’ve been using a smart phone for twenty years and never cracked a screen then it’s probably a waste of money to get AppleCare.

I’m still keeping my iPhone 14 and I’ve broken it once by dropping it in a case. It was just a thin case, and broke the back and front glass.

Be careful with camera lens protectors. I’ve seen people break camera lenses because of them. It can cause the camera lens to stick out past the case so when it lands on the ground not only does the protector crack, but the impact also damages the camera lens.

@russell_314 Thanks for the warnings.

I would rather not have a glass back nor Magsafe to make the phone easier to break.
I feel you when it comes to the glass back because while wireless charging is cool it’s not 100% necessary. The good thing is Apple has made replacement of the glass back cheaper. I’m not sure what version of the iPhone it started but now you just have to replace the glass and not the entire phone.

Of course I’d still say get AppleCare. If you’re going to spend $1000 on a phone, then you should be willing to spend a few extra hundred on some protection. Only you know if that is important to you because you know your history with breaking phones. If you’ve broken a screen in the past, then I would recommend AppleCare.

Even if I could buy $1000 phones like they were candy it would still make financial sense for me to have AppleCare. I would spend more money replacing phones then paying for AppleCare. Not everyone is destructive on phones as me.
