In my experimenting, I thought that the iOS-based Google apps to access Google services might've been a way to use the iPad as a chromebook of sorts. As you've discovered, it is pretty limiting.

Among the mountain of devices I have, is an Acer R11 chromebook. This "convertible" works surprisingly well. Being able to use the fully functional Google apps, desktop version of Chrome browser, and Android apps to fill in the gap, has made the platform a viable alternative to the iPad Pro. (though I'd probably get the Samsung chromebook Plus)

I don't often use the ASK as a "traditional" stand, but the few times I did, it was a "squirrely" affair. It didn't feel stable. One time the keyboard part "unfolded" causing the iPad to fall back. Another time, it was a bit too vertical and tipped forward onto the desk. So I only use it as a keyboard stand.

I also have the ASC but have not had the issues that you experienced. I replied to you in that thread with a possible explanation as to what might be going on... including a photo of what I was describing.
That sounds so tempting but I’m a slave to the Apple ecosystem. I often think if I should just ditch it all together, get a surface pro 5, but then I remind myself what happened with my fellow students during class and exams their windows would start randomly updating and crashing. Apple products are so fast and stable. I’m praying for that rumored merging of iOS and macOS to happen sooner than later... yeah I remember that pic now that you mentioned it. iPad products are so damn faulty.

I have a 10.5, which I'm very happy with in terms of size and weight. It was originally intended as a lap-top replacement and I used the Apple keyboard with it. But that didn't work out and I have a MacBook now. So the iPad is mostly used for watching Netflix etc in bed.

I'd like an iPad mini mini — an iPad nano. Something between the plus-size iPhones and the iPad mini, which I find is too big. Something to use for browsing when I'm watching tv.

How do you use your ASK when wanting to tuck away the keyboard and just use a stand for the iPad? I tried it once and it made my iPad almost fall forward because it sat straight up rather than lilting back. I had to return the ASK right away and now I’m using the ASC instead which feels nice and light but it’s a nightmare to stay in place as my iPad falls back every 20 minutes.

Get yourself the Zugu Prodigy X case. You will be happy you did!

Thank you for your suggestion. Many users has been recommended it, but the bulkiness and weight kinda defeats the purpose of having something lighter than a MacBook, especially when using a 12.9. Thanks though :)

Haha, yeah mine has been a media consumption, too. I’ve only used it in school for one week, and that was on the days we didn’t have to take notes in class.

iPad Pro 9.7 here, so I can only upgrade from there.

Unless I'm going for the standard iPad model, in that case, it's a downgrade.

I’ve wanted an iPad mini mini for years! Something bigger than a phone yet small enough to palm comfortably for long periods of time. I would think more people would want something like this, particularly people who prefer small phones, but apparently we are a super rare breed. In fact, you are the only other MR user I’ve ever heard say this.

Currently using a 9.7” iPad Pro. Tempted to get a larger iPad for home use, as my current iPad feels a tad small for stuff like reading PDFs and mind mapping.

Currently using a 9.7 iPad Pro but waiting for a Mini upgrade. The 9.7 is fine but I want something smaller. If Apple doesn't upgrade the mini soon I will likely find an 8 inch android tablet at some point.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7 and a Mini. I do a lot of sketching and note taking so the pencil is great but I still find I’m more likely to pick up the older, pencilless Mini. If apple ever release a Mini with pencil support I’ll just hand over my credit card, I won’t need to know the price.

Apple do seem to be removing all my future upgrade options: no more MBA 11 inch, larger iPad Pro’s, larger phones with awful battery life. This time they have no Steve Jobs to swoop in and save the day either.

I will change my 12,7 to a bigger size when they release a bigger one. I have had all from the mini to all pros and I would trade the 12,7 for any of them. It has became my go to mobile computer.

I’m pretty sure the 12” MacBook is physically smaller in all dimensions than the MBA 11”.

10.5 seems like the perfect size to me. I could go slightly larger if they reduce the overall footprint.
im actually considering buying a 10.5, if I can find a cheap deal for an unboxed online. I just upgraded my air to 11 and even though it’s slow as a turtle it makes it more enjoyable. I’ve missed typing while holding it vertically. Does the 10.5 feel great to type on while holding it with 2 hand vertically? If I’m gonna any kind of money on the air, I better put it up for sale asap

Definitely going big. The screen on my 9.7 Air seems to be shrinking more every week. It doesn’t leave my home so it’ll be the gloriously large screened 12.9 for me. But if it did leave my home on a regular basis I’d move up to the still very portable 10.5” form factor.

I’ve actually never typed holding it that way, but it didn’t feel comfortable when I just tried. The 10.5 has been great for me though and for sure is a good buy if you can find one on the cheap. Especially if you want to retain the home button.

Good luck using an Android tablet. Unless you only use it for kids watching youtube or games, Android tablet is just piss poor in app experience.

I have get iPad Pro, iPad 2017 and one Asus Android tablet. While the Asus Android tablet was stuck with Android 6 forever, no update at all.

In general term. Android tablet isn't no par with iPad at all. Only one that can be on par with iPad is the Surface tablet. Though, I have ThinkPad as my Windows need, so i do not need a Windows tablet.

One things that I love about Android tablet is the support of USB OTG. I can plug in USB OTG cable and connect with my USB Dock. With mouse support, it is actually sometimes more productive than iPad (For excel editing my Excel worksheet). It also able to save my files to external USB drive with ease. No need these cloud storage solution and no need these wireless hard drives.

One things I wish iPad is mouse support. Otherwise, I will still rely on my trusty ThinkPad for most of the work.

What’s interesting to me is that the entire footprint of the 10.5” iPad is about the same size as the 12.9’s screen. So if Apple just reduces the ginormous bezels on the 12.9” (a la the iPhone X), then the 12.9” would be a much more reasonable size. That would make it more compelling option to me.

So if Apple ends up scaling the bezels down, rather than scaling the screen up, then I could using the 12.9” as my main screen.

Otherwise, if they scale the screen up, then I’ll keep the 10.5” size and be happier with the additional space.

If, for some reason, they scale the screen up on the 12.9”, but the bezels down on the 10.5”, I would probably stick with the now-even-more-portable 10.5”.

Sounds like a great plan! Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I'm now considering selling my 12.9 and get a 10.5. It's terrific for multitasking but uncomfortable to hold. Those larger bezels serve no purpose at all! I want to be able to properly hold my tablet while annotating or drawing. Also, eyes can't handle the 12.9 and the white is making my eyes dry out. I rather get a 15-inch macbook and a 10.5 ipad, because you'll never bring a computer right up in your face the same way as a tablet.
