I’m on the 10.5 whereas my colleague is on the 12.9 - I’ve had a play with it and the thing is just unwieldy. To be fair I mainly use my IPP at home but there are times when I need to chuck it in my handbag to take to work or when I’m catching a train and I can’t see myself giving that up for the increase in screen estate at this moment in time.

I still love the form factor of the mini for everything I do (the main downside for me are the speakers) - thus the only thing I use my 12" iPP for is videos. Ive accepted that the mini is highly likely to not be refreshed, and if that is the case I am prepared to use it for as long as I can. It could be the last iPad I own with the dependency on the following factors:
-The less bezel the device has, the more likely I am to buy one (regardless of size).
-The more the camera sticks out of the back, the less likely I am to buy.

Would really depend on which one outweighs the other. But to your main topic, I prefer downsizing the iPad for convenience of transport.

Sounds like a great plan! Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I'm now considering selling my 12.9 and get a 10.5. It's terrific for multitasking but uncomfortable to hold. Those larger bezels serve no purpose at all! I want to be able to properly hold my tablet while annotating or drawing. Also, eyes can't handle the 12.9 and the white is making my eyes dry out. I rather get a 15-inch macbook and a 10.5 ipad, because you'll never bring a computer right up in your face the same way as a tablet.

That’s strange, I too draw on my 12.9 and for that reason I WANT the bezels. It allows me to pick up and hold my iPad without worry of touching the screen. It’s especially assuring considering the buttons for my drawing apps are all along the edges. If I had no bezel, I would be accidentally hitting buttons all the time.

I’m with you on the speakers. For how I use my mini, as my main casual consumption device, the speakers are what I find the most lacking in regards to hardware features. My uses would also benefit from water resistance and wireless charging.
I’m also with you on the protruding camera. I don’t use cases on my devices, and it would drive me crazy to have my iPad wobble on a table.

Definitely going big. The screen on my 9.7 Air seems to be shrinking more every week. It doesn’t leave my home so it’ll be the gloriously large screened 12.9 for me. But if it did leave my home on a regular basis I’d move up to the still very portable 10.5” form factor.

Actually, I'm not sure if you've heard, but Apple has now been caught shrinking screen sizes on iPads with older batteries to extend battery life and avoid unwanted restarts. Some kid measured his screen size with a ruler when it had an old battery vs. when the battery was replaced by Apple, and the screen size measured larger after battery replacement.

I had the 12.9 before, but I generally use it very close up and it was really too big. I'll go for 10.5 next time. I have a 9.7 Samsung now and a little bigger than that should suit me I think.

How many of you are considering to downgrade in size when the new iPad comes out later this year? If, so what are some of of the reasons?

I’m have a 12.9 and I love it! It’s the right choice for the full iPad experience. I love multitasking on it, drawing on it, browsing on it.. but my eyes are suffering from the large screen. It’s not like a MBP where the keyboard is in between you and the screen. I really, really, really miss watching YouTube (I still do on air 9.7) and I don’t enjoy annotating my PDFs on it. I can’t grab on to it like a note-taking booklet. I still have my original iPad Air, but I shouldn’t be using it more than my 12.9. It defeats the purpose of buying the 12.9. The on-screen keyboard may be full sized, but it takes half my documents therefor a physical one would be nice... but I can’t imagine myself using multi view on a smaller device unless Apple comes out with an 11.7 device.

My dream would be for Apple make the screen longer if they remove the home button. It would make it more tolerable for multi view. Then I would defiantly consider downgrading my size!
Honestly I love my 12.9 but I am beginning to think for college my ideal setup will be a 10.5 inch iPad with a 13inch MacBook Pro. Will probably trade in my iPad next summer for the new smaller model. While purchasing my MacBook Pro at the same time.

I will be going from my Air 2 64GB to at least the 10.5” Pro 256GB, so I’m definitely upgrading. I’m trying to wait for the next release to determine if I will get either the current version or what will be new at the time. I’m always open for the latest and greatest, but I don’t want FaceID if it operates like it does currently on the X. That will determine which way I will go.

I think it depends a lot on how you use your iPad Pro. If you are using purely as a tablet and want to hold with one hand and write, or read, then obviously the smaller size will be best - but for myself my 12.9” iPad Pro is usually on a table or my lap with Smart Keyboard attached - or on a music stand if I am using for its other purpose music playing. I use split screen a lot and would not consider going smaller.

I carry my iPad Pro usually in a brief case, so its size/weight is not really a worry. I would hope Apple keep the frame the same size on 2018 iPad and enlarge the screen to give more real estate - then we might get a 14” iPad Pro

I went from 12.9 to 10.5 as I found the 12.9 a little too big to be truly portable. I love my 10.5, but must admit I do occasionally miss the extra size of the 12.9, so I may get another 12.9 when they're updated again and keep both
