Prices will ever increase because the unit value of money decreases over time, and costs go up.

Wages also go up over time.

All that matters is the RELATIVE increase in the cost of products compared to wages.
I think you fully missed my point. Tech prices are rising faster than wages. The relative price of tech is going up.

I have not seen the data indicating this. If you have it, please post it.

Personally, I don't generally buy new tech, not because of the price, but because I see no compelling need. The tech I have now generally meets my needs.

I did buy this year's AppleTV. My 5 year (or whatever) old one I have now doesn't have enough memory for my current needs. New one was a whole $130 or whatever. I did replace my phone this year, only because I killed mine. I replaced wife's watch because she killed hers. In none of these cases did I buy a new product because some kind of killer must have new tech.

I think the oldest tech I have are my dive computers. They date to 2004. Lots of new stuff has come out since...but what I have still works as perfectly as it did the day I bought it.

The overseas iPhone price hikes are largely due to currency value changes (stonger U.S. dollar) which you can't blame Apple for.

Other things like Apple TV+ may have been under priced in order to build a subscriber base and now that there are more subscribers (as well as more content), a price increase is not surprising. $6.99 ad-free is still less expensive than Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, etc.
The GBP to USD is back to August/September prices. And looking to be more favourable to gbp over the coming weeks and months.

I am expecting apple to roll back the GBP price increases as it’s only down to currency fluctuation agains the USD?

I don't think Apple (etc.) adjust prices throughout the year to accommodate economic conditions. I think it's more of a once a year at best thing....unless of course they need to go UP.

I have to admit, I don't really care about price hikes on technology. It's fairly rare I buy anything in this category anyway, and it represents only a tiny fraction of our spending anyway.

Our biggest spend category, by far, is groceries. I mean, that's the cost of an iPhone EVERY MONTH.

$3 increase in Apple One (family) isn’t going to break the bank. It’s still cheaper than 3 separate accounts.

Tech prices are not going up. Inflation is rising much faster than wages and wages cannot keep up. Prices are matching inflation due to the higher cost of materials and production. Tech hasn’t went up, it’s just the currency’s purchasing power has went down and wages have not kept up. I know I am arguing semantics at this point but goods are not technically becoming more expensive as it’s the purchasing power that has decreased.

Tech is the same price when you punch items through the inflation calculator… we are just all becoming poorer.

I am neither loyal to Apple or have any love for "them".
I think they are greedy as f*k - but it’s not my problem.

I am loyal to my own needs, and I love the quality that Apple’s products still provide for me.
I upgrade when I want to. I only buy new Apple stuff when I need to. Just like everything else I have value of in my life.
Can’t imagine dropping Apple, Mac and iOS out of my life. Not a chance. But I buy on my terms.
No choice in the poll for me.

Another record for Apple in Q4 2022, with 90.1billion revenue and astonishing profit of 20.7 billion. Apple doesn’t have new products in the recent years, just some marginal improvements here and there (bigger screen, better camera and etc). To keep its revenue growth, Apple hikes price directly or indirectly. Even TV+, which only has a handful of shows, got a 40% hike. I am still loyal to Apple products, but I am unhappy that price keeps going up (much higher than inflation) with only marginal improvements. Is Apple getting greedy? What do you think?

Apple prices are much higher than other inflationary pricing? Hmm. What's your source for this?

Gas alone has risen nearly DOUBLE (as in times two) in California since Biden became President. And gasoline/petrol is a commodity that almost everyone needs in modern society, rich or poor.

And good luck if you can buy any brand new car (from a car dealership) for less than a 30% markup compared to early 2020 (when COVID pandemic just started).

MyApple One just renewed at the old price today.
Just got this email.

nothing but pure greed from Apple.

not sure i will be buying another iphone once my 12 pro max is done. I'll need to wait and see how things are. Definitely won't be buying another ipad that's for sure!

i was planning on getting a Mac to replace my PC but forget it. i've been saving up long enough to try get a Mac Mini and no doubt whenever apple bother to update to the M2 they will also update the price! AND no i'm not buying 2 year old hardware. honestly my PC is working fine i just wanted to move to Mac again but looks like i'll stick with Windows.

the only other Macs i could afford are the Air and 24" iMac but the screens are too small for me. on laptop i'm used to 15-17" and on desktop i'm used to 27-32". i was going to keep my current 27" monitor and hook up a Mac Mini to it. that makes the most sense for me. if i were to get a laptop i'd have to go with the 16" MBP and yeah... that's expensive as hell and no doubt will get a price hike with M2 refresh.

the only service i subscribe to on my iPhone is iCloud+ which is 79p/month so even if they raise the price i can't be too mad about that lol. i was considering joining Apple Music and Apple TV+ but with the recent price hike i just went back to Spotify and while the TV+ price isn't terrible i don't think there is enough on it to justify subscribing. Only movie i want to watch is CODA and i quite liked the free episode of Ted Lasso + Severance. Might sub for one month or see if i can get a trial and binge them all then forget about TV+ lol.

Have you read some of the replies to this thread? Apple products have barely increased, in fact in some cases they've actually gone down in price over the years for the equivalent... So it's not really pure greed.

I guess the thought is that it is "greed" because Apple could keep the price the same and just absorb its own cost increases....you know, as a service to The People.

Frankly, I'm amazed that the EU hasn't already announced an investigation into Apple's alleged price gouging activity.

You sure you meant to quote my reply?!

All I gather from this is that so far, 109 people have no clue what price gouging is. This is both sad and hysterical all at the same time.

The prices of the new iPhones and iPads however are insulting. This year's base model is not only 200€ more expensive than the iPhone 13 here in Germany, but also keeps the same chip and barely got any new features, not even USB-C. I wouldn't even consider buying it if it was at the same price point as last year's phone (799€). I also don't fall for Apple's strategy to purchase the pro model instead as I would NEVER pay that much money for an iPhone.

You can blame price increases on the weaker euro/stronger USD. For example, the pre-VAT price for a 128GB iPhone 14 in Germany is 834 € which is around $826 USD at current exchange rate. This is practically the same as the pre-sales tax U.S. price of $829. iPhone prices stayed the same in the U.S. and went up in Europe because of the currency value change.

Apple typically only adjust prices for things like iPhones on a yearly basis unless there is a significant currency value change. Right now, the pre-VAT price for a 128GB iPhone 14 in the UK is £707 which is around $813 at the current exchange rate. This is lower than the pre-sales tax U.S. price of $829.

Since you are from the UK, perhaps you can explain the significant U.S. price increase for the streaming service BritBox. A year ago, the U.S. pre-sales tax monthly subscription price was $6.99 or about £5.10 at the time which seemed to make sense as it was nearly the same as the UK pre-VAT monthly subscription price of £4.99. This year, however, the U.S. pre-sales tax monthly subscription price is $7.99 or currently about £6.94 which is significantly higher than the UK's still £4.99 pre-VAT price. Despite the weaker GBP/stronger USD, they actually raised the price in the U.S. while keeping it the same in the UK. A year ago, U.S. subscribers were paying roughly the same as UK subscribers but are now paying nearly 40% more. Did something change with the service or is this just "greed"?
