My problem is a heavy battery drain. After 30-45 minutes I only have 66% left... Other problem is the behavior of my fan again. It's always on and my MBA13 is getting hot.

Anyone else with these problems?

Same here, heavy battery drain..

Everything else OK, in fact ML feels faster..

To complain bitterly about these things is pure nitpicking. At least the people who are having problems with stability, wireless connectivity, etc. have actual problems.

No, no you're right. It's not right to complain but it's fun ;). No, I don't own any windows phones iphones and ipads here. Although windows phone's metro design is really clean and unique. Android have some really nice functionalities too. iOS is simple but the design is ok. However, you should try out windows 7. I love it personally for work :). It's really good for accessing files if you're a graphic designer. Yea, I'm having issues with stability ML crashed my whole system :( that's why I was complain-y. so yea.

I think ML is worth the €15,99.

Love the facebook and Twitter integration. I like the Notifications, although I don't open the list to see if I got new messages or something. I just look at my dock for that.

Safari 6 made me leave Chrome. At least for now.

The dock looks pretty sweet.

Still don't like iCloud that much.

For the price, I would have to say that I am pleased. I'm not happy with some of the broken apps because of the new OS, but that is to be expected.

Yup 14 quid is a very nice price for an OS that's added some great new features and made my aging machine as snappy as the first day I got it!

I was just having an excellent experience when I saw this thread!

I'm personally satisfied with Mountain Lion.

- My Mac feels smoother and nicer to use, the new dock is beautiful.

- Safari 6 made me leave Google Chrome.

- Notification Center is working great.

- I now use Notes + Reminder.

- Dictation is a useful new feature.

- AirPlay is incredible and I use it frequently!

Overall I think it's worth the update, even considering the low price.

I'm happy with everything except AirPlay. Its a little too slow and laggy. So I just went back to using the mini display to hdmi connector for my tv

Unless you are REALLY dependent on iOS and iCloud integration, ML is absolutely useless and irrelevant as an OS X update.
[...]

Well, the MAIN reason I switched from trusty Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion was precisely the iOS/iCloud integration. I also own iPhone and IPad, and I find the omnipresence of documents/photos/notes/(whatnot) on all my devices thanks to iCloud a real game-changer. The integration may still not be perfect but the whole idea is paradigm-shifting when it comes to modern computing.

When the iPod and iTunes store were introduced, many rejected the idea and said that it will never work (economically speaking) ... but it really changed the way people purchased music, books, movies.

When the first iPhone was introduced to the market it was ridiculed ... and it took few years for the competition to start catching up (Android).

When iPad was introduced, many said iOS was not a real operating system (and they were right) .... but it didn't matter because the game was no longer about operating systems or CPU's GHz, memory MB, etc. Three years later the competition still tries to claw their way back and grab a share of the market but their success is limited because they still think about developing the "best" hardware and the "best" OS (and their machines are truly awesome - but it no longer matters...) while Apple's focus is on delivering functionality (the App store being an important part of the eco-system).

I think the iCloud is the next logical step for Apple. ICloud goes beyond simple storage-share. I still have difficulty grasping the significance of the new approach but, after experiencing the iCloud first-hand, I think it has tremendous future. I guess we'll see in few years how successfull the iCloud will be. But considering Apple's record when it comes to developing new technology, I think they may be really onto something really big.

Just my $0.02 worth...

I love safari, the only thing faster is firefox aurora and thats in beta....but I find myself missing the ability to quickly email/tweet articles I find.

I love the notification center and the dictation...just a great user experience.

I have noticed a laptop battery drain, I will prob buy a new 13 inch retina if they release it around X-mas, otherwise, I am very thrilled with this release, and hope it keeps getting better with tweaks...

I hope i can keep my laptop chugging along til next year, but I doubt it..700 cycles and counting.

I honestly think Lion and now ML are the worst iterations of OS X to date. Mind you, I've been using Macs since and LC with OS 7. The greyscale icons, the lack of any color in the menu bars or Finder sidebar seems to me like a huge step backwards, not to mention simply boring. At the very least, let ME decide whether to have color or not in a preference tab that should be integrated into a single pref pane. Also, the Documents folder lacked the ability to sort by clicking at the top. Stupid UI features carry over, like the Finder prefs and View options. iCloud offers me nothing I really need and i resent Apple requiring Lion or ML in order to use iCloud and basic features like Back to my Mac. I used that feature in SL to support various relatives Mac's scattered across the US. Most of SL and one has Lion. There is no technical reason for this, just a marketing push by Apple. The one other MobileMe ( .Mac) feature I used was iDisk, thats gone now too.

I upgraded on the first day and today, I went back to Snow Leopard, which will likely be considered the last of a fine breed. My MBP and 27" i5 iMac with ML became slow, lots of spinning beach balls and both had Wifi issues that didn't exist before. I don't like Safari's integrated address and search field nor its sluggishness and total failure to load some sites. The new Safari is a weak attempt by Apple and doesnt really compare with more robust browsers like FF and Chrome.

Overall, the OS was not impressive and offered me no functionality enhancements that I needed. I'm back to Snow Leopard and probably here to stay.
It's very nice to read an honest report from someone with lots of Mac experience.

I began with System 7, on a PowerBook 170. Each & every year, or refresh since then has been one I could always count on having at least one or two significant improvements.

All was well till Lion, the first "upgrade" that didn't feel like one. Being Apples Vista, I hoped for more with Mountain Lion, to no avail. What improvements are in ML are focused on iOS & it's influence with OS X as Apple continues to head towards complete convergence.

Sadly I see no letting up on the dilution of OS X in the interest of making it a mirror of iOS, so as to draw in more beginners. iToyz is a proper moniker for iDevices, one that means big bucks for Apple. It seems as though they are happy to lose their loyal, longstanding computer users in favor of those who buy into the simplicity of iDevices & the ease of a closed, locked down Eco-system.

I'm going to continue to enjoy SL 10.6.8 while it lasts.

It inspires me to use:

Reminders instead of OmniFocus
Notes instead of Evernote
Safari instead of Chrome
Airplay instead of an HDMI cable
Air for Messages instead of iPhone
Password instead of 1Password

I started out on a Mac in early January of 1984. I disagree with both you and Markovich.

Apple's Vista? Hardly.....

Everyone has a right to their opinion.

Instead of hurling insults & leaving with nothing said, do you have the courage to state your opinion? Do you have the ability to have a discussion, or are you just a rock thrower?

Do you know what "ignorance" means? It means "lack of knowledge". It's not an insult.

iPhones and iPads may be toys to that poster, but there are millions of people across America and the world using them to be quite productive, both personally and for work. That poster was showing ignorance by categorizing a family of products as toys just because he has no use for them.

Lol yes calling someone ignorant is an insult. No one wants to be ignorant! I really don't think you both lack experience or knowledge- both of you have diff experiences and knowledge Ofc. It's just a difference of opinion. I find that Mac rumor user tends to shoot down people of a different opinion especially towards the OS or iOS. If anyone experiences a problem with the OS it's user related- or lack of knowledge. Oh no its never the OS!-- unless shown with a screenshot proof.

Yes iPhone and iPad can be productive and i like my iphone and ipad a lot! but everyone uses it different. Some ppl only use it for games and content consumption which is what it excels in.

Also how can apple improve their OS if no one voice a diff opinion?

I have a question for Mountain Lion users, does the battery life take a significant hit? I was on Lion before, and battery life was much lower compared to SL, which is why I returned to SL.

For the most I'm happy with Mountain Lion
What I like:
Notification center
Messages
Voice dictation
My MBP doesn't overheat like it used to with Lion
Smoother over all experience
Safari is blazing fast (when it doesn't crash)

What I don't like:
Safari crashes at times and I have to restart it
Don't like the new dock, hard to see what apps are open
Some multi touch gestures don't work at times (have to reboot)

Overall I'm happy but would like to see Apple address these bugs and bring out an update ASAP. I'm a little shocked that it has the issues that it has. Oh well, can't complain it only cost $20 which is a bargin.

OK...I bit the bullet against my better judgment and installed ML on my three iMacs. After a day of use and testing, I have to say I think it's a pretty good upgrade with some useful features. I specifically like Notifications & Dictation. Don't have any use for airplay yet as I'm still on gen one :apple:TV. I'm sure I'll find it useful when I get the current :apple:TV.

Upgrade went flawlessly smooth on all three computers and all three appear to be running very stable and fast.

My only complaints are the dock. (don't like the new active lights) and the fact I had to upgrade from Parallels 5 to Parallels 7 for $50.

Overall very happy with ML.

Mail, Preview, Textedit crash

when I upgraded from SL to Lion both programs Preview and Textedit crashed right after I started them. Since I did not use them that often it did not bother me much. Now I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion the two new features such as reminder and notes have the same issue and most unfortunate: MAIL CRASHES after starting the prog. Sorry fanboys, but I am pretty pissed now. Cant wait to get in touch with the support hotline tonight...
Do you guys have the same issues?

very satisfied. ML is what Lion should have been last year.

I'm so far very happy with the OS!

Not really had a chance to do too much testing but:

It takes a long time to boot up

When running Lightroom and CS6 together it's a lot hotter and noisier than last week (on Lion)

Is quite sluggish

Firefox runs badly (Safari is great though - I'll probably use it in place of Firefox)

iPhoto is just utter crap (mind you it was beforehand so probably nothing to do with Mountain Lion ;) )

Tempted to do a clean reinstall - when time permits.

Tried ML for 4 days and had a few problems.

- Safari crashes when clicking on safari extensions
- My CPU fan is usually in the 3000+ rpm when just surfing the net or doing other light tasks
- System is slower than it was with Lion
- Graphics benchmark is half of what it was with Lion
- getting a lot of beach balls when transferring files to usb or network drives

I have only been using macs since late 2009 so am no pro but in the few days I've used it I didn't find it worth the upgrade. Used time machine and went back to Lion for now. Will try it again after 10.8.2 or so. Frankly if SL had iCloud I would go back to that and stay there. Here is my benchmark tests for both OS. First is Lion the second is ML.
