As a Galaxy Note PRO 12.2 user, I am not impressed by iPad PRO

I tried the iPad PRO today. The screen is very nice but I am not impressed. The Note PRO I bought over a year ago can make/receive phone calls, has a file manager, can have split keyboard or other user customizable keyboards, sdcard slot, 9500mAh battery, excellent S-pen that can draw smooth curves without the need to recharge, usb 3.0, with some apps it can have multiple windows on the screen. Although the anatomy app on the iPad PRO and the hardware are impressive, by the time more impressive apps which take advantages of the iPad PRO are available, we may have an iPad PRO 2. I would rather get an Surface Pro 4.

I found it inconvenience not to have a back button on the iPad PRO. How do iPad/iPhone users do it without the back button?

Samsung's software support on the Note Pro 12.2 is and has been abysmal. It's GUI was outdated within 3 months of launch when Samsung replaced it with Tab Pro S line and failed to ever update the GUI on the Note Pro 12.2.

Magazine UX has long since been abandoned and persistent stutters and general UI lagginess has persisted since launch. There are far more 'creative' apps on the iPad generally and in the run up to iPad Pro launch there are already far more 'pencil' optimised apps on the iPad Pro than there is on the Note Pro that are fully S-Pen optimised.

The iPad Pro will see far longer support regardless of whether iPad Pro 2 is released (and it's possible like the iPad Air 2, that it may switch to a two year upgrade cycle rather than annual) than the Note 12.2 has ever seen.

I have been using Apple products since Apple II. For sure, the international warranty of Apple is excellent. Apple has replaced new laptops for me for free. Same as IBM. Warranty of Samsung is bad. That is why I considered to buy an iPad PRO. How about Microsoft's way?

Microsofts customer service has always been very good here in fairness. As good as apple's for me. I had a problem with my Surface Pro 2 pen - it had a faulty rough nib and it scratched my screen within days. Rang customer support and they replaced my surface pro 2 and sent me extra pen without hesitation and they made follow up calls afterwards to check everything was alright and I was happy. They went above and beyond my expectation tbh. So yeah, I have no bad words for them based on my own experience.

Tried the iPad Prosumer at Apple store and while the hardware, minus the crappy keyboard cover, is pretty good the software is rather limited and quirky. For example, the split view menu looks identical to the 2012 Galaxy Note II but there's lag from when you swipe in to when the menu actually pops up and the number of supported apps is very limited on top of everything else you mentioned makes it feel more like an overblown iPod. The Galaxy Note series is much closer to a PC replacement but still can't run full blown professional software like a Surface Pro 4 which I'll probably decide on this weekend.

If you are entrenched in the samsung ecosystem I can't see why get an iPad pro. Those with other Apple devices make the choice easier. If my wife didn't need a laptop I would have gotten an iPad pro, but need Windows for stuff she does hence looking at sp4.

I chose Samsung product partly because of the S-pen. Mac OS is my main work OS. Of course, I use Windows for some applications too. If the iPad Pro has a phone feature, I would consider to buy it.

I can make phone calls from my iPad Air 2, I just have to switch a setting on my phone. Then I make calls through FaceTime Audio and it counts as my number. But if you don't have an iPhone, I don't think it works.

FaceTime audio is no more calling than Skype calling though. You can technically call through the iPad using continuity, but you need to be connected to your iPhone via wifi.

Nope, not on Sprint. I've had my sister tell me my iPad was ringing when my phone was at work with me. I've had my iPhone on airplane mode and made calls through my iPad before, as well.

All modern day phones can tether internet access. (Unless your provider has blocked it).

The difference between iPhone & iPad is handoff - where phone calls and sms messaging can be pushed to and from the iPad and connected iPhone.

However a Note 5 will be able to share its internet with the iPad via tethering however tethering does use up battery quicker than normal use.

If you have wifi calling enabled (carrier needs to support it), you can make and receive calls from an iPad (or a Mac) without needing the phone to be present or even on.

You can also call non-iOS users with Sprint vs. Facetime so it is better. But it is still Wi-Fi calling. I think it needed clarifying because it isn't the same as what the Note can do. The Note is carrier-independent.

Yeah, but with the Note you have the downside of it being underpowered by comparison and having TouchWiz. It's just now getting 5.1, I think.

Better than a carrier assigned number is Hangouts with Google Voice #. It's a standard 10-digit # that any landline can call which is what separates it from the likes of Facetime, Skype, etc. Best of all it works over cellular data or WIFI with unlimited free calls and SMS within North America. Since I have Verizon unlimited data it's a win win.

Anyhow, I looked at the iPad Prosumer the other day as a possible upgrade from iPad 2. After giving it thought ended up buying a Surface Pro 4 with Type Cover fingerprint keyboard yesterday which is the true Pro device. Best of all the whole package with fanless SP4 M3-6Y30 4GB/128GB plus pen and Type Cover fingerprint keyboard came out to $939 total including tax vs $1314 for the equivalent iPad Prosumer 4GB/128GB, pencil and crappy keyboard cover.

You can't go wrong it's a SP 4 if you know how to keep a computer going.

The iPad does have LTE but that's not worth $300+. Does the M3 version perform well with W10 and only 4GB of RAM? I think that's a great deal for what you get compared to Apple.

The problem Apple has is that the iPhone has such ridiculously high margins, that any other Apple product has to be priced high so they don't dilute their margins too much. All to support the stock price.

Surface Pro 4. Core M, 128gb/4gb is €1049 here, whereas iPad Pro 128gb is €1119 here.

€160 for Surface Pro keyboard
€170 for iPad Type Keyboard.

There much of a muchness price wise here.
