Thank you esteemed one yes
I think I do 'get' your LTD understanding.

Actually, this understanding isn't so LTD. Although I'll admit it's one person's way of grappling with a difficult subject. ;)

A little bit of information for your enjoyment. It's an interesting problem. Hopefully you'll find some of the references useful.

Even today, Zen is still a very "imprecise" science. Mostly because we approach it with a Western mind and bring associated expectations to the table.

I've read of fashion designers who wear a uniform everyday, so they don't have to use their brain to decide on what to wear. They would rather concentrate on the clothing they design. I figure that's the same case here, in addition to the minimalist aesthetic.
Personally, I'd rather prefer if Steve Jobs concentrate on making great Apple products than whether his outfit is sufficiently fashionable.

I had a psychology professor in college who wore the same thing every day for that reason. He always said he had better things to think about than what to wear. Since he was a psych prof, I think he just did it to mess with people. :)

The use of comic sans makes me believe this was sarcasm. But there was no blue. What to do what to do.

Some people maintain black and blue will never do,
(except in the case of polo & jeans of course).

Steve is old and basically a computer nerd...what do you expect? It's like seeing Bill Gates without glasses and a pocket protector. I don't think I'd recognized either of them. Well, until I tripped over their huge egos.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia N70-3 Ireland-Opera: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

He probaly has multiple copies of that "outfit". in the same way rockstars would have multiple copies of theiriconic look.
It's iconic. Expected to happen :)

He probably finds it easy to match in the morning, because he's got bigger things to worry about. A lot of brilliant people (Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, etc) have eccentricities, and this seems to be one of his. He's been dressing like that for almost 20 years—I saw some videos of him during the NeXT years, and he was rocking the black turtlenecks.

He's too cool for a suit. Ya dig?

I just wish he'd wear a belt more often.

Funny how AppleHack23 makes it seem like SJ only has 1 outfit and that's it. Dude, he's probably got like 2 or 3 outfits in his wardrobe. :D

I've always thought that he decided on that look because it seemed and turned out to be a look that never went out of style. If you look at this older keynotes, some things would look really bad from today's perspective. Now that's one way of looking at it. There is also the image that projects about the company. It's the same and still unchanged.

Rich guy wears whatever he wants. What a concept. Heck, I'm not rich, and I wear whatever I want. Jeans + T-shirt. That's my wardrobe basically. Always a pair of jeans, and whatever T-shirt I like.

I think he dresses the same to keep the focus on the product rather then what he's wearing for this particular event.

Still has awhile to go before before he gets as stale and tired as some others.

Look how long Richard Simmons has been wearing the same haircut and clothes.

Sort of glad he didn't decide on a Speed-o and a cuttoff tank instead.

Jeans and white trainers might have looked cool back in the days, when Chevy Chase was a popular actor. Not anymore. In fact, I think it's kind of embarrassing to wear trainers with jeans. For work-out, jogging or any sport activity, you wouldn't wear jeans. If anybody really wanted to wear sports shoes/trainers, they should either try to choose another colour or choose different styles. I had a few Adidas Spezial in various colours and they are great for driving and in the summer/spring/autumn. Nike's Wildedge GTX also has a few nice colour options. I have a pair in black/blue and they are fine.

Anyway, Jobs does wear suits occasionally but he doesn't look particularly good in them. Having said that, he still looks better than wearing those white trainers, ripped jeans and black hoody, where he looks like a hobo.

If I look back when he was more chubby, then without the beard, he would have looked like a certain PC guy in a certain advertising campaign.

By the way, there is a story circulating that Steve Jobs had to place a larger order with an upmarket high-street fashion chain to have his favourite turtlenecks manufactured again. Whether it's true or not, it's a marginally cool story.

It's Buddhist, and definitely Zen Buddhism. Minimalism, elegance, and naturally flowing simplicity.

Taoism is very similar. In fact Chinese Buddhism used elements from their own Taoism to help it along, creating Ch'an Buddhism.

and were did zen buddhism derive from? Buddhism was highly influenced by shramanic and ascetic influences of jainism and early hindusim

i find all three of these religions captivating and liberating

I've always seen it as a good way of demonstrating exactly the kind of person that he is. He probably put a lot of time and effort into finding an outfit that is perfect for all his everyday needs. After that he never has to think about clothing again, he spends less time choosing outfits and more time thinking about the next iPad etc.

Everything I've read leads me to believe Steve has sort of a spartan lifestyle. He wears the same "uniform", at one point he lived in a house with no furniture, he hates buttons (on mice and shirts apparently), etc. It's the Tao of Steve. I think it's kind of cool.

If he hated buttons so much, he'd be wearing sweatpants - or maybe pyjama bottoms.

semantics is overrated. we know what he meant

seriously, the guy should wear other things. it is kinda weird. i mean really...it is

I agree with both comments. Arguing over semantics only seems like an attempt to cloud the issue.

And in any other situation, involving any other person you know, you would probably think it's weird if a person wore the identical clothes all the time, even if you don't care about fashion. So yes, I think it's weird.

It's also his choice, even if I think it's something a crazy person would do. ;)

All I do know is the man looks terrible.. I hope he will survive over the Pancreatic cancer he has.. Even Patrick Swayze didn't survive.. I saw recent pics of Steve Jobs on the net and all indications point to the fact the man is really very frail at the moment.. I hope he is resting and taking it easy.

He looked like a fool at the whitehouse where everyone had a suit and he showed up with his turtle neck uniform. I don't know anyone who wears the same outfit every day that's just disgusting. People are probably afraid to tell him he smells and looks stupid.
