For all you guys saying the game is 'dated' - to what standards of comparison are you basing that judgement on, especially when it comes to mobile phone games? Are you expecting realistic 3D graphics and 60 fps? I don't know the graphical limits of the iPhone, but it really can't be that much farther off from this game...

Not talking about the overall graphics

I'm talking about the 1st Generation Nintendo type of game play. "knock him out", "great drift", and the cartoon like girls you can select to have on your pit crew. The only thing missing is cheesy midi music (edit, there is cheesy midi music)

Maybe it's just not for me.

I myself don't need realistic graphics, nor textures for that matter, it could look like Virtual Racing for all I care, as long as the simulation for the driving is top notch, and other gameplay aspects being more up to date. The iPhone has kind of a PSP feeling going for it compared to a standard cell phone and related games, so I think expectations are a little higher, or the iPhone is just the first kind of next gen for cell gaming. So I hope in the future, companies won't only try to push graphics and not forget about gameplay.

I sure hope this isn't a fake, but a totally different type of racing game than Asphalt:

That link for the Nokia game looks a lot nicer

I bought it, and when I get to the screen where the first race is about to start, the game crashes EVERY time. I re-booted my phone. Same thing. Any suggestions?

Nice game but very dated. I hope the iphone game scene can actually push some boundaries eventually.

LOL... go show us a video somewhere where its playing on a BB/Instinct/WinMo/HTC/Palm... go ahead, show us.

Or just use this link: feed://feeds.feedburner.com/RecentlyAddedIphoneApplications-PinchMedia

If you put it in your bookmarks bar in Safari it will even give you a count of new items so you know when to look.

Good point, but it doesn't update very fast (like, hours and hours later). I just tested it to see, and things that show only by using the back button aren't in the list.

So it's good, but not quite as immediate - for those impatient people like me!

Apps quit after launch

I actually got the app bug, where NO apps would work, and all my music disappeared. I am in the process of a long and painful re-install.

Yes, happened to me as well. This has happened before when I had many apps loaded, and the other thing that happens at the same time is no media appears on the iPhone, although there is much media present.

For me, I connected the iPhone to the Mac, and in iTunes went to the "Applications" tab. I unchecked Asphalt, along with several other applications. I synched the iPhone, so these apps were removed from the iPhone. I also "de-authorized" the iTunes from the iTunes Music Store, then re-authorized. I shut down the iPhone and restarted, and the remaining apps work just fine. :)

I re-installed Asphalt and all is well (for now).

I think the issue is related to how many apps are installed on the iPhone, and maybe how much space they take.

Enjoy!

Real Racing looks great...glad someone posted this before I pulled the trigger on Asphalt4. Hopefully we don't have to wait long before it's released.

3 questions about the game:

1. When using the accelerometer steering mode, is tilting my phone forward accelerating the car or using the nitro? If it's using the nitro is it any different then touching the nitro button. Does it just accelerate on it's own?

2. On one of the videos of the game it shows someone touching the nitro button and it shows 1x, 2x, 3x on the screen. Do you tap the nitro button mutiple times to get higher levels of nitro boost? or do you just hold it down until the nitro is used up?

3. In the options is the button that says: "more games" or something similar. If i hit the button it brings up a blank screen with the spinning waiting for something indicator, then it just goes to my "desktop". Is this normal?

hi nippyjun

1. push forward accelerates, a quick push forward activates the nitro, as in the video link. I tilt forward to accelerate and use the nitro button. you can change as it suits you.

2. Do you tap the nitro button mutiple times to get higher levels of nitro boost?
yes

3. more games brings up the box your talking about, with the spinny thing then shows me a few games titles in coverflow design from the company.

Fact:

The graphics can be great
The controls can be great
Framerate can be great

and the game could suck...

In this case, I think the graphics are good, controls are good, framerate is okay, but really this is a fun game. I think we spend way too much time talking about these games technically (which is also important, don't get me wrong) than talking about how fun they are. I personally believe the game is worth $7.99 so if that is an endorsement or not, great, but it IS a fun game. (at least to me)

Racing games (on any platform) usually don't hold my attention--I never like the controls. I found the control feel on this was fun--even when I wasn't any good yet. Enough fun to make race again.

I find it interesting that on their Support Web Site, the price is listed as: From $4.00* and it says
* Prices may vary according to your carrier.
The experience may be different by handset.

I wonder why it's so much higher for the iPhone. Because it's new? Not because of Apple's 30% surcharge. That would still make it come to < $10.

*rollseyes* That's for the crappy 2d cell phone version :p. Not the iPhone one.

Anyone tried the wifi?

Maybe it's just not for me.

probably not midi music as the iphone and any other portable i know does not have midi capability unless in emulator mode: which would sound rubbish. if you have heard properly done midi, you would probably find another cheesy analogy.

You know exactly what I meant. Stop acting like I insulted you.

I just put up a HD gameplay video, since there's no demo. It's a pretty fun racing game. It really makes GTS World Racing puny in comparison. Good luck getting past the first race, though, it took me 8 tries.

It took me 13 tries. x.x

is it just my version... but after rome the sky is only half way up the screen on all tracks after that one!.

the earlier tracks are fine though.

maybe an update will fix it.
