I gave up on all this after 6+ hours on chat/phone. I had made the change to Unlimited Plus Enhanced, then noticed later in the month that my speeds were pretty bad, and no hotspot capability.

More than once, they attempted to fix this by changing me to a multi-line account, which is essentially $60 more/month.

Only 1.5mb for video (on the larger iPad), and 3mb, made me not want it. Especially since all their information indicated I should get the same speeds and restrictions as the phone.

So I dropped to ATT Prepaid for my phone ($40/month for 8GB), and I'll decide later about the iPad. In the short term, I'm using the $10/5GB T-Mobile plan. So ATT is losing over $50/month by their unwillingness/inability to follow through with their offers.

I will lose a $15/month discount on my DTV Now.

I'm doing some research to what's comparable to the $20.00 unlimited plan. That is -

AT&T Unlimited iPad 4G LTE - Includes unlimited domestic wireless data on a tablet. After 22GB data usage, AT&T may slow speeds for remainder of bill cycle. Includes up to 10GB of tethering per month; after 10GB, tethering usage is slowed to max of 128 Kbps. Stream Saver included.

I see their - DataConnect Pass Auto Renew for $29.99 per month. I doesn't say what the download speed is. 3Mbps doesn't cut it when I usually see 40-70+. And I don't think a hot spot is included. I believe that can be added for $20 so it bumps the price up to $50.00. And at that, it's probably not 4G LTE speeds.

Then there is -

Mobile Share – Data - You’ll want this plan if you have multiple data-only devices and/or you use a lot of data. Plans include tethering and hotspot use for compatible devices. The 15GB and higher plans include data usage in Mexico. With AT&T Mobile Share – Data plans, you pay a monthly plan charge plus a monthly device access charge for each data-only device on your account that will be using the plan. Excludes taxes, fees, applicable installment device charges and other service charges.

Shared Data Amount 4GB 6GB 10GB 15GB 20GB 30GB 40GB 50GB
Monthly Plan Charge $30 $40 $60 $90 $110 $185 $260 $335

PLUS $20.00 per month for the device access charge.

Nope... Waaayyyyyy to expensive!!!

An AT&T rep wanted to put me in one of these plans before -

Looking for a new plan or ready to upgrade plans? AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced and AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced plans are here.

  • Both plans require at least one phone line on the plan.

That's not going to happen! I have a grandfathered UDP that I don't want to give up (they keep trying for that).

Maybe I'm missing it but I don't see any plans that are close to my current $20.00 per month 4G LTE UDP with hotspot for a reasonable price.

I had that plan as well and switched to the unlimited plus with an iPad (my wife and daughters phones included) and have zero issues (can't tell a difference) total is about $200/220

It took a lot for me to get rid of that plan too.

I received a call from a person who said he's an advanced technician at AT&T. He told me the reason I keep having is problem is because I'm one of a very limited number of people who has a phone that still has a grandfathered UDP. The $20.00 UDP for the iPad isn't designed to work with that. So the system changes it every few weeks. I forgot what he called it but something like when maintenance is done. He said they made it work again but it's not something they will be able to keep doing. It will probably change again the beginning of July. At that point I rebooted my iPad and found that the hotspot button was still gone and download speeds were in the 2-3 Mbps range. He told me there was nothing he could do. He suggested that I log into AT&T to select a new plan. I told him the current plans cost at least 2-3 times as much as the $20.00 plan that was offered to me by one of their reps. He said he understood but that was the best he could do.

So.... I can either keep the grandfathered UDP on my phone and find a plan that will work on my iPad (need 4G LTE and a hotspot) or I can do what they've been pushing me to do. That's move everything onto one of the new shared data plans. Either way it will cost me more than I was paying.

I was having the same problem as you. However I did not have a grandfathered UDP on my plan.

I ended up going with their Unlimited Plus Enhanced plan for $150.00. Took the auto bill/paperless billing discounts to get it down to that price. It will probably be about $170 with taxes. I was paying $128.00 with taxes and my FAN discount. That discount doesn't apply to this plan.

I'll save $15 off of my DirecTV service so I'll only be paying and extra $27.00 in the end. I gain a 15GB personal hotspot on my phone. Something I've never had. The same on my iPad. That's up 5GB from what I had. Plus I'll no longer have to call them every 2-3 week to restore it.

i think i read somewhere that they are going to raise the prices of the Grandfathered in plans soon again....

I received an email from AT&T this morning. My new plan will be going up $5 next month.
