No tax Charged to $29.99 plan....?

I have this $29.99 plan. Love it. I can't figure out how ATT gets by without charging us TAX though?! I have a post paid cell account with ATT and they hit me (and everyone else I'm assuming) with misc. taxes and fee's every month on my bill. I know that the iPad plan is PRE PAID, but should that really make a difference? You'd think uncle Sam would want his $$. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just trying to figure out how this is possible. Anyone else notice this ? It's just $29.99 / month out the door! No silly tax's or fee's....which makes the plan all the more better! :)

I see nothing outrageous about it. Unlimited data plans with no throttling have become quite a commodity since the carriers dumped them so they can charge more $$$. Even cable providers like Time Warner used have one speed - fast as hell - and you could use as much data as you want. Now, they ask - how much do you want to spend? The size of your bank account will determine the speed of your connection. This means poor people will suffer the most as they have less $$$ to spend than wealthy ones. Typical I guess.

I have several unlimited data plans and I will keep them active at any cost. I can tell you that having an iPad would be substantially less enjoyable if I had to worry about a data cap. In fact I probably would not have one. But being in the healthcare business, iPads are being used more and more in clinical settings - so for me it is a proverbial gold mine. Thank Apple for that one and the many clinical apps we have that make patient safety a top priority while still delivering cost effective healthcare.

cost effective...now thats funny. canada is cost effective

----------

i would not pay $500. i dont get why someone would need unlimited data unless they are always using their ipad on the go and plan to consume tons of media on the go.

Well you just answered your own question. The roi on it for data users is too good. 29.99 a month. Att charges 50 for 5 gigs, 10 every gig after that. It's not hard to see.

Did you have to do anything special to get the phone to be able to connect to LTE? I know you had to change the APN and stuff, but when I put my iPad Sim in my iPhone 6 plus I cannot get it to connect to LTE it wants to stay at "4G". I am in an area that gets great LTE coverage, but I still couldn't get the phone to connect to LTE. Just curious what you did, if anything, to get this to work.

This happens when u put the iPad sim card into the iPhone 6.

This is how u get it resolved.

All you would need to up is install that profile (ATT Broadband) at Unlockit.co.nz, once done, leave your phone on, and make sure LTE is turned on. give it about 12 hours at most and you will see LTE show up. It just needs time to register to the network.

i dont see the need for it. you spend 8 hours or more at work. you get home and you use your broadband connection any way. the need for unlimited data on an ipad makes zero sense for most people.

I'm sorry you don't see the need for it. I love mine. I'm sure just about everyone who has one is satisfied.

It's even better when I use it as a hotspot. Traveling, not worrying about data overages. But hey it's not for everyone. A lot of people actually do other things besides work and home. But hey u can use it anytime without worrying about overages. For 29.99.

I actually watched the unc-nc state game on the watchespn app recently. It was great.

Oh and sometimes at work I struggle to keep a T-Mobile signal. So connect to my att hotspot, wifi calling no problem.

. THANK YOU for the tip ! MUCH appreciated! I will try this. I had only left the sim in my iPhone 6+ for about 20 minutes. LTE never showed up, so I took sim back out of phone. I will give it at least 12 hours and see if that helps and report back. :)

I just happened to look on eBay i think the time has come where. The iPad Data Unlimited Plan for sale is really going away, there is pretty much two left, for well over a grand.

Supply and demand.

Even over a grand its a great deal if u use data

I wanted one of these plans but knew I didn't need the data the way I'd have to use it. I did however have the unlimited iPhone plan on 3 phones and let it go bc I needed voice minutes more than I needed data.
I switched my ATT unlimited iPhone plans to Mibile shared data with 20 gb between 3 phones. They then offered to double last nov at no extra charge and I jumped on that. Now they are rolling over unused data, so this month I have 70gb we can use, and I unleashed my data hogs to stream video away from wifi. We will see how that goes.
I still think the unlimited iPad plan is a fantastic thing to have and I'd still like one but really wouldn't use it to its potential.

It would be impossible for you to have 70gb of data rolled over.. Your remaining data only rolls over for one month, then expires.

I currently have 70 gb of data it use this monh. 40 from my current plan (20+20 promo) and 30 that rolled over from last month. How is that impossible?
Nowhere in my post does it say the full 70 gb is rolled.

I bought my plan last year sometime .. totally worth it .. I commute to nyc everyday and it is nice being able to stream shows and not worry about the amount of data I use. Doubt I would sell my plan .. but 1500 is a lot of money lol

I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Unless you are one of the (many) people how travel on business... a lot. Not having to rely on hotel's internet service with non-existent security is a big boon.

I live way out in the country, and my iPad plan serves as a backup when we lose our (crappy) dsl connection... and I can report our power loss to our utility company online when power goes out (which happens about every 3 weeks).

Ironic that I get 15 MB/s on the iPad, and only 3 MB/S from my (non) broadband DSL connection.

That has me thinking about it too. Might just toss it up on a 30 day buy it now for 2500 or so and see what happens.

I really don't use mine much. I just have it for travel.

I have one and it's the reason I dropped my unlimited phone plan for a cheaper 3GB Plan. I just use my iPad for heavy data when traveling...if only I could tether...sigh
