The smart phone one. Strip out the iPhone and how well does AT&T do. Some how I do not think it will be as impressive.

Agreed I don't want to pay 39.99 for minutes I'm not going to use. How about $30 for 300 mins like t-mobile....

This actually works:

Call AT&T
Tell them you want to cancel your contract
They'll ask why
Tell them you're not using enough minutes or too expensive
They'll ask you if you want to switch to 300 minutes for $30/mo.

This is what they did when I went to cancel.

No. AT&T has more coverage. Verizon has great coverage in the USA and only in the USA. AT&T has great coverage too at least in my area. They also have GSM cell towers in other countries, and won't have to sell you a "World Phone" like Verizon.
I was talking about the USA only....and I've never heard of AT&T having towers in other countries only that GSM is a world standard and that they have roaming agreements in allot more countrys than verizon does. Verizon has vodafone but whatever.

However, they have less coverage at my house which is all I care about. AT&T wins at home.
That's great but don't make it seam as if having a UMTS and GSM network automatically gives AT&T more coverage than verizon.

AT&T is claiming to have the fastest network only because they have selected markets with 7.2Mbps HSDPA. In other areas (meaning 98% of their coverage footprint), it's on par with Verizons EVDO.

The whole VZ has more area is great...if you travel 90% of your life to rural areas of the USA!!! Which most people DON'T! If you're in any major area ATT and VZ are almost equal. I have both networks and I've personally check their networks whenever I travel around. Overall they are the same. So, to me those ads are just funny and very misleading.

Why do I care if VZ has coverage in the middle of an Iowa or Montana mountain stream where I will never be? And, if I was in such a nice place I don't want a cell phone :)

All this crap about dropped calls. Give it a rest. I've never had a dropped call and many haven't, as well.

leys see, i get them REGULARLY

so do my family members

and we live in different states so give it a rest whatever:cool:

also, since when do these companies offer coverage world wide lol

What a great deal.....not!

if you dont use your minutes and want cheaper, how is this not a better deal.....

seriously

if you dont use your minutes, then who gives a crap about the price per min you get

If ATT is the fastest 3G, I would hate to see the others.

Come to Arizona specifically the Phoenix Metro area. After having Verizon for who knows how long and using their version of 3G (EVDO) It was slow as heck. I found ATT does indeed have a faster 3G network, as opposed to Verizon.

Ok then; why do I care if wifi is only availabe at my house and coffee shops! I mean I don't need it when I'm on the go! Sorry but it's nice to know that when your in bum**** Montana lost and yourcar breaks down you'll get at least 2 bars of 1x enough to call for help versus roaming on some crap Montana crapcellular GPRS with 1 bar dropping to no service unable to get help. Well at least the damn phone has GPS so you can walk to a gas station to get help :)

it is slow as hell but it's everywhere. Ask me if I want to check my facebook on a balckberry with AT&T or vzw 3G...I'll choose the former.

Now if we could only get a company with AT&T phone line up and Verizon's network so they could both shut the hell up and work on their flaws instead of playing pre schools games.

Verizon: i know you are but what am I
AT&T: I know you are but what am I

Will it ever end?

I travel to Florida often and the AT&T coverage is by far better than Verizon's.

AT&T (formerly Cingular) coverage rocks in florida. I think it's because of the strong backbone that Bellsouth/Cingular built before AT&T came back in.:D

Are you more worried about this or dropped calls?

Dropped calls is a daily embarrassment that AT&T users experience. When you run a business, and your phone calls drop in an important conference call because you are on an iPhone (AT&T network) - you'll want to do something about it. It happens again, and you'll definitely do something about it.

I use AT&T and I had 2 dropped call this year. Definitely not daily.

What about the fact that Verizon locks down their phones with their lame GUI and won't allow apps being purchased unless its from them. Verizon is a control freak and they want to make sure they can control everything their customers can do. I'll stick with ATT I have had no issues with them here in ATL, GA. I had T-Mobile and I used to get great signal at home. Suddenly one day I went from having 4-5 bars to having no bars. T-mobile blamed it on the trees that are around my house. The same trees that have been there for the previous 4 years I had T-mobile. I'm happy with my AT&T service but not everyone can be pleased...same goes for users with Verizon. I've heard plenty of people complain of dropped calls on Verizon and such.

ive had one dropped call since ive been with AT&T (February).
AT&T is phenomenal here in souther VA, i have 5 bars of 3G everywhere and its very fast. however when i was with verizon (since 06 until this february), yes i would get service, but only a bar or two of 1X. Verizon and its EVDO here is abysmal.
ill never leave AT&T. i get service everywhere i need it.

Dropped Calls is an item that AT&T casually did not mention in the image...

If I am in my basement and I make a call, I can count on a dropped call 99% of the time. I love especially when it drops the call when I am on with an AT&T rep. One time, I got a call back from them after it dropped and I said "that's AT&T for you" and she laughed.

Its all good. :) This will hopefully make att expand their coverage and make Apple build another sweet iPhone. :D

They do not do that on there smart phones. Blackberries for example can download apps from anywhere they want. They do not have a GPS lock on them either.

It is just the Verizon Dumbphones that have the locked GUI but if you really look at it you will noticed all AT&T dumb phones use the same GUI as other AT&T dumb phones.

Agreed. I hate verizons UI. it's the biggest piece of **** ever and that's why I'm not renewing my contract with them with an upgrade to a aestetcally pleasing phone with a fullkeyboard that does the sane damn thing as there line of dumbphones. I already love T-Mobile without having experience with them and might go with them as they have good service in the areas I am frequently in.

That's the nature of capitalism my friend. Without it we might as well be a dictatorship with one governent controlled carrier with 20$ a MB prices and limited service.

I use AT&T and I had 2 dropped call this year. Definitely not daily.
again it's dependend on where you live. Also do you use EDGE or 3G? Regardless I hate verizon but I have literally only had one dropped call ever, it was when I was in Wisconsin visiting relatves and I had like 1 bar of 1x in urban so I checked it out and I learned that verizon only had a 1900mhz licsce se in a pretty dense area full of trees. I ended up roaming on US Cellular which had 850 and it was all good. Needless to say I commend verizon for that.

Not sure which is better a supposed faster network with less coverage or a slower network with much more coverage?
What makes ATT phones different. Heck it seems the iphone you can either talk or surf but not both. Maybe Iam doing something wrong.
Coverage world wide, how about coverage in the US, like 15 minutes down the road from me.
ATT #1 in customer service, yikes....the other mustreally suck:rolleyes:

You are doing something wrong then. As long as you have 3G coverage you can do simultaneous voice and data. That is, of course, unless you're using a first generation iPhone.

As for customer service with AT&T, all you gotta do is be nice. EVERY time I call in with a problem my wait is no longer than five minutes (that's the extreme) and it always gets resolved. Any time I've ever had a problem with my bill I've gotten money refunded. Hell, one time I called because I saw something on my CSS that wasn't supposed to be there and even though the rep couldn't see it on their end, they put notes in their system to credit the charges back to me if they showed up on my bill and THEN took that amount off my current bill. How's that for customer service?

leys see, i get them REGULARLY

Could be just me but if I was dropping calls regularly, I would let the carrier know that my coverage isn't sufficient and politely ask them to waive my early termination fee so I could move on to a carrier that provided the coverage I needed rather than coming to MacRumors and annoying people with my complaining.

So far I had great service with at&t also. You're right, the main thing is be nice. They always been very nice to me and just very easy to deal with.

never tried to surf the web and talk.
Were the corporate stores not included in the survey. Because the corp stores near me are horrible.
1. dropped calls - sorry sir your phone is working normally but you did have 18 dropped calls this month.
2. dropped calls- (month later) sorry sir you phone is working normally but you did have 26 dropped calls you may want to contact apple.
Me-Really, I did and they replaced phone.
ATT rep- Sir we have not had any network issues.
Me-OK please check my other two lines and tell me how dropped calls they have had?
ATT rep- total of 47.
Me - is there a problem with their phones too?
ATT rep- be right back.

Wow after over two months of ATT blaming apple my phones suddenly stopped dropping calls. I was so excited they added 550 minutes to my account. We now have over 3500 roll over minutes.

Verizon deals with the phone issues at the store without telling the subscriber to call LG, Blackberry, Motorola and so on.
I was shocked to hear ATT was #1 in customer service. But with anything YMMV

Pwn'ed. Now they need to whip out the CDMA vs. GSM Maps. " there's a map for that". Still AT&T needs to step up there reliability if they want to get into a pissing match with verizon or else it's gonna get ugly fast for AT&T.

So is my 2G iPhone not a smartphone? If it is then #2 is a mis-statement for me.

I'm sorry but #4 is another one of their outright lies and I'm really getting tired of their blatant use of the press to insult my intelligence by telling me this crap.

#5 - hmmm, proved to be not here in the US and especially Denver, where I care. 3 bars to 1/0 bars in the last year and a half. Yeah best coverage my arse!

If you lose 3G you still have EDGE.

Thanks for playing.
