Never, as I don't need a screen. However, as of three hours ago I gave up waiting for a Mac Mini and order parts for a Hack Mini; means I'll have to be careful with updates and compatibility, but I just don't see a Mac Mini coming before mid next year at the earliest now, and I can't wait that long.

I would get an iMac or a MacBook Pro since they have the processor option I want, but in both cases I'd be paying a significant premium for a screen I don't need. Plus the further premium for portability in the MacBook Pro's case, though I could potentially use it.

The reason I wanted a Mac Mini was so I could get an i7, slap in an SSD, and still come in under £1,000, but that's not possible with the iMac and MacBook Pro. While I can still do that with the current Mini the value just isn't good enough, meanwhile the Hack Mini I'm going for will have better specs, only be a tiny bit taller, will be quieter (silent even), will have two gigabit ethernet ports and two eSATA ports, and come in at £750 including a 500gb SSD. I don't mind paying a premium for Apple products (and to avoid the compatibility issues), especially if I would have got an Iris Pro processor into the bargain, but without that it's just not competitive IMO.

What case are you using?

New MacMini?

I became tired of waiting for an upgrade. I also wanted a better graphics card and power, overall. So, purchased the iMac 3.4. 256 flash drive, upgraded to 32gb Ram. Files are posted on a Drobo 5D. My wife is using my Apple 27" Thunderbolt screen for her MacBookPro. I took my MacMini to school, where I work. Never have liked the Dell integrated desktops. Mini works well for what I use at work.

There is no giving up for the mythical Mini..............;)

We need another of our fellow believers to appease the Apple Gods with yet another futile sacrificial gesture, and go buy a 2012 Mini.

Come on, whose turn is it? I had mine last year. :p

My iMac still works and still runs Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects oh and World of Warcraft. It drags itself a bit, but one can't put a working iMac aside for a new Mac Mini, that would anger the iMac God which would also upset the Mac Mini God...so I just made up an excuse the pass the responsibility to someone else :D

Mac mini god is already upset and have abandoned us. Imac god was already upset too that he cursed us with a cheap imac and hdds all over. May be its time to worship mac pro god but that demands too much sacrifice.

I'll run my 2009 Mini until it dies or it won't run the latest OSX. At that point I will probably buy a used Mini, as late a model as I can. I like the iMac but don't have the desk top space for a permanent installation (Mini runs to TV as primary screen 80% of the time)

I bought an I5 open box Mini at MicroCenter last week. Today, I reserved the open box i7 that they have at my local store. I will be heading out in a few hours to exchange the I5 for the I7. Does that count?

Why am I doing this? Well, the I7 is at a nice discount like the I5 was last week. I wouldn't pay full price for the 2012 Mini. Also, I kept thinking and thinking of exchanging the I5 for the I7 and nows my perfect chance. My mind will feel much better knowing I got the best one and not wishing after the 14 day exchange period, if I should have gotten the I7.

I gave up a few weeks ago and bought a Dell XPS 2720. I have a 2008 iMac, which is a great machine that's now serving as my back-up. But when I compared the current iMacs' specs and prices to those of the Dell, I couldn't justify the premium.

An Akasa Euler, was going to get the newer S model for the extra front ports and styling, but it's more expensive with no bundled PSU (or at least I couldn't find one with bundled PSU that I can get in the UK for a good price). Just wanted to correct myself; it's a tiny bit wider than the Mac Mini too, but shorter in the other direction (front to back), but it's a very neat little case.

Yes. You are now admitted to the inner circle of saintly martys to the sacred cause.

Your custom gilded Medallion of Spiritual Enlightenment Bottle Opener is in the mail.

I got a refurb i7. Wouldn't mind a touch more graphics grunt, but apart from that it's sweet. :)

Just got back with my I7. For some reason, I cow;lld not get the prompt to set up my Magic Trackpad when setting up the Mini like I did with the one I exchanged.

Luckily, there is a used computer shop a few blocks away and the man there was nice enough to sell me a used wired mouse for $5. I setup my Time Machine backup which only took about 20 minutes.

Glad I didn't have to spend a few hours setting this up. :)

That is an interesting case! I have dreamed of fanless for a long time :)

I gave up waiting in December 2013 and got a fully pimped out Mini i7 2.6 with 16GB ram and I haven't even felt the need put an SSD in it yet!

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I waited for 6-8 months before buckling and getting a rMBP last month. I thought I'd use it clam shelled, but am actually set up with the laptop open and hooked to my external monitor. By the time I upgraded the current mini to the ssd and the 8-16 gigs of ram, I would have paid nearly as much anyway, and having the extra screen is kinda sweet. I use it for all my distractions while my larger external holds my work flow.

No regrets.

Life is short. Put in an SSD. You are going to anyways, why not do it now so you can enjoy it? I GUARANTEE you will thank me. GUARANTEE. 100%

You will not believe the difference. Night vs Day is not even close.

The nMac Pro Was developed for pros that can pay for it in a few weeks worth of work.

I wish they would make the GPUs optional but that isn't going to happen.
For a fast, quiet 6-core i7 Extreme DAW PC build I'm looking at about $3000 but that eliminates a HD encloser which would be another $459 from OWC.

It will last longer as well since you can upgrade the GPUs, and even upgrading the internal storage will be cheaper.

Seriously, the only way he could not feel the need for one is if he's never used one. HDDs are so 20th century!

I gave up waiting long ago and grabbed an old 2009 Mac Pro from work, sure USB3 is tricky relying on 3rd party cards, but with four fast swap drive bays to pull all but the boot SSD in and out of at will I've little need to resort to external hard disks in any case.

Same here. Gave up waiting a couple month ago and started looking for a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 dual CPU. Big upgrade coming from a 2006 Core 2 Duo Mac Mini!
Cost me the same as a new Mini.

...just buy an iMac? Because I'm seriously tempted to upgrade my 2011 Mini, especially in regards to graphics and USB 3.0.

iMac and Mini are two very different products. Just by reading the mac mini threads it is obvious that many would rather wait for a new mini or ditch the Mac altogether than go for an iMac. I went down the nMP route instead as I absolutely do not want an all-in-one, especially one with a glossy screen.

I'm ready to go across the street and buy one during my lunch break
this oct '11 13"MBP is getting a bit long in the tooth and it's been tied to the desk ever since the iPad dropped I'm not a heavy user by any means and I'm already running an extra 21" monitor off the MBP just this lack of usb 3 is killing me.
I think I'll get another monitor and run a dual setup off the hdmi and thunderbolt since I already have a t'bolt to hdmi cable
I guess the checklist would be RAM,SSD & a doubler kit?

Not waiting at all, the Mac minis I own do what I need them to, no reason the drink the Kool-Aid and buy something just because it is new.

Well I had been frantically refreshing the refurb page every day since before the iPhone event. Usually there would be at least some availability but nothing was coming up. And then earlier this week a refurb i7 popped up and I just decided I had to buy it.

So, of course, within an hour of getting the shipment notification from Apple, macrumors posted they had heard about updates from a reliable source. /sigh

I gave up waiting, now using a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, and will keep my 2011 MacMini as a back up for as long as I can, and replace the Hdd with a SSD later. My next MacBook Pro will be Skylake 15 incher in late 2015/16, and have two notebooks. Don't ask me why
