really? spending $6-800 for usb 3.0 ?

No USB 3.0? Ouch! Get going!

But the 2011s have thunderbolt... you can easily get a dock to add usb 3.0 if it is that life changing. Or if you don't need the dock spring for the TB drive which makes 3.0 look lethargic.

I'm gonna keep waiting at least until the next conference. I'm currently docking my 2012 Mac Air into a 27" Display which is holding me over but I really do want a dedicated computer. I'm sick of docking it(i know, first world problems).

That's at least $200... which I'd rather put towards a new computer!

Seriously, at least wait out an October event before going nuts on this

At least wait for Yosemite to be released... new computers may come with...if not, build one

Plenty of stock traders for starters. And I am sure a brain/heart surgeon or two as well :)
And neither of those uses requires a Mac. If you have a brain surgeon operating on you and the last thing you see as you're being anesthetized, is him reaching for a MacPro, that will be the last thing you see.

Every time I see one of these, "Pros make that in a day" arguments I can only roll my eyes at the lack of understanding of how business and computers function.

People making large sums of money generally do it by making somebody else do the real work.

Actually, I think you completely misunderstood my original post. I was not stating that the computer itself could make that $$$ possible, but that some people make enough money so that buying one for themselves for whatever reason (like the same reason people by an Aston Martin when a Honda would also work) would be totally affordable to them. $3K to some people is like $1 to you and me :)

I'm still using my 2007 mini as an iTunes library. Works great but can't install the newer os x so it will soon be time to upgrade.

Would like to see what the new mini has to offer but may pick up the current generation if nothing is released before year end.

Hope the Mac Mini will arrive before Q2 2015, if my 2010 iMac holds out til then (and she probably will), if there's no Mac Mini I'll consider a different Mac.

Digits crossed we hear about new Mac Minis tomorrow.
