Absolutely not! I love my iPad!I purchased the 16gb wifi knowing full well that I'll be purchasing the top wifi model of the second gen iPad. It's pretty much a given that it will have a "FaceTime" camera and I want to replace my MacBook Pro with my iPad and then get an iMac for heavy lifting.

I don't so much regret the model I bought, as I do purchasing the iPAd in general.

If it doesn't work for you, you can sell it in short order for most of what you paid for it. Try that with almost any other consumer electronics device you'll ever buy - so I don't see what there is to regret.

Thanks for the responses so far. I went over to best buy at lunch to check out the web surfing experience.

The screen is great - just what I'm looking for. However, I have a couple of questions.

1) I went to a familiar website where I like to listen to guitar clips. However, the iPad said "Safari cannot open this type of file" (mp#).

Here's the link with the attachment. http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=33234

Is there a workaround for this?

2) I usually keep my laptop on the arm of my sofa while watching TV. I don't see how I can do the same with the iPad. How do you guys hold this thing on the couch?

Otherwise, I think the iPad fits the bill.

I have good reader installed (.99) when I clicked on the first mp3 link it asked if I wanted it to open in good reader. Played fine in that.

My 16gb wifi-only iPad is great. The storage is plenty. Even if you want to have more, with memory management, you can utilize it similarly, especially with videos.

Since I jaibroke my iPhone (not my iPad, yet?), MyWi works great and cancels the need for the 3G model.

I originally had the 16gb WIFI, but then turned it in for the 32gb 3G after a while. Im not a guy with a lot of music or video, but my apps took up a lot of space and it was nice not having to worry about space at all. I still have about 12gigs left, but obviously what I have on my pad now wouldn't all have fit into my previous pad. I can now load podcasts, music and a whole bunch of apps and documents without ever having to think about space.

As for 3G, very glad I got it. There are definitely many situations where I'm out and about and not near a wifi signal. I also have a jailbroken iPhone with MyWi, but i found that the app drains the battery like no other. And, it's just so much more convenient not having to first turn on the iPhone, go into an app, switch on tethering, etc. With the 3G, I'm online all the time and immediately. And I still have juice in my phone to use it as an actual phone.

Nope. The only regret I have is that I use my MBP less. My iPad handles most basic mobile computing tasks my laptop would do with better battery life on the go. Even at home I find myself grabbing my iPad to go do some browsing as opposed to my iPhone. When I'm out and about I tether off my iPhone and it's just fine.

For me 16gb is plenty. I don't play many games, listen to no music on it(I use my iPhone for that) and the only videos I keep on my iPad are current TV episodes. The rest of my videos come from Netflix or streamed with Air Video. I mostly store reading and writing material, photos, and hopefully more sketches when I get a better stylus.

I think I can definitely do without my iPad and stick to traditional analog mediums for what I use it for(and I still do), but it adds a bit of convenience for me, even as crippled as it is. Personally, I think its a pain in the ass to perform the same tasks on an iPhone/iPod Touch. While the iPad is just a bigger version, the experience is quite a bit different.

I regret for not purchasing on day one.
And no, I won't pay two data package plans on my both iPhone and iPad. I am fine with my wi-fi iPad. I doubt I will ever buy 3G version.

Mine is 32 GB but to be honest I don't use even 20% of the storage. I don't use it as an iPod.

No regrets about WiFi only, and I wouldn't have any regrets if my iPad were 16GB. They just didn't have any 16's in stock when I bought mine.

All good info! Thanks guys.

i'm leaning toward the 16gb wifi only. I must admit that I'm somewhat tempted by a 10" netbook to save some coin. Or maybe a different tab, like the Archos 101.

Anyone have trouble with the ipad's screen size being too small? I actually think a 12" screen would be ideal. I saw some old ibook G4 12" b stock for less than $200. Should I even give that consideration.

Don't forget, my primary use will be for couch surfing, forum reading, netflix streaming.

Your primary use for the iPad makes it the perfect device, and way better than a netbook. Instant on and touchscreen is the best combination for a lounging-around-the-house computer. Do yourself a favour and avoid the netbook. The iPad screen is just right.

I don't. 16 gig is just enough for what I'm using it for. At the most full, that I've had it, I still had 2 gig empty. I sync quite often and if I want something that takes up more space (movies on travel), well...I get rid of some things. Since it's portable and syncing takes just a short time...I fell as 16 gig is just fine with me.

iPod is filled will 30 gig of music and audio books.

Solid answer.

I have the 16 wifi only and love it. I always have access to wifi so don't have trouble with the internet.

I urge you not to buy a netbook just to save some money, if that is your only reason. You will regret it. The money you spend today will be forgotten in the future, especially when you realize how much you dislike the netbook and how little you can get rid of it for. You sound like you really want an Ipad, so I would stick with your original plan. Don't settle.

I bought a 16GB Wi-Fi the day they were released - I still have 10GB free with tons of apps - so I have no issue with that purchase! I am however jealous of all 3G iPads :-D

It really depends on your mix of Apps. I have the Elements, which is pretty freakin' huge as well as some magazines for a total of 8.9GB in Apps alone. I think first-time buyers need to consider that Apps can potentially take up a LOT of space.

No regrets here.

But as with anything in life, it's a personal decision only you can make.

With all of your input, I've decided to go with the iPad 16gb WiFi. Now I just need to find the best price.

I considered buying used. Searched Craigslist, but in my area (SW FL), most appear to be scams or the asking price is too high.

3G & 64 Gb here, roll on 128Gb I have TB`s of media and my iPad pretty much covers my mobile need, 16GB is good enough if you are never off the "Grid", however without connectivity it just wont cut it for me. I have everything I need on the 64Gb iPad, and when I need extra the horses I just remote accessing my Macbook Pro

Q-6

I'm on a 16GB WiFi - no issues!
Initially had some regrets about not going for a 32, but hasn't been an issue.
Here's why

  1. No 3G: Wifi fethering from my phone
  2. Photos: They're resized by iTunes to fit the device, so they take up a lot less space than I expected
  3. Streaming: My iPad is for /consumption/. I have a desktop computer: and I stream everything from it.
  4. Going away: If you think you're going to be going away for LONG periods, a bigger capacity might be better. Personally, I've travelled away just for short periods, and using either Handbrake to convert videos to iPad-compatible ones, or using CineXPlayer or VLC, has enough capacity. Ultimately, if I did run out I could delete photos temporarily. But I've been fine.

I have no regrets buying the 16 GB wi fi iPad. I mostly use netflix for movies and really don't use it for music. Thats what the iPhone is for. I did jailbreak my iphone so I could use My Wi which has worked great. Being able to share the IPhone's internet connection wirelessly for only $20 has been way worth it.

Unless you put a bunch of movies on it, 16 gb is fine. I have a 16 gb and I have plenty of room. Of course, I think watching a movie on an iPad is ridiculous besides maybe on a plane, so that's why.

No way if I could do it all over i would get the same model. No need for 3G as I tether with mywi and 16gb is more than enough to store several movies have a ton of apps and magazines and PDFs etc with some free GBs to spare.

But really I just wanted the technology of a tablet type device and getting the low end model made the most sense since my intention was never to hoard digital media on the device, but to use it more as a controller interface and web access device
