The only "bright sight" of the current issue in comparison to the previous appearance - much less cases when issue is triggered (at least on my workflow). That's why most of the users didn't notice the issue.

For example - play/pause on YouTube not triggered the issue as it was before. But switching quality from FullHD to 4k and backward clearly "pops" the speakers. Or a song that "pops" speakers (when you jump across the timeline) on YouTube is playing perfectly on Google Music desktop player.

Anyone on the 11.5 beta? If so, is the popping sound still present? I hope that when 11.5 releases that this popping sound will be fixed. I sent Apple feedback. If they read it and don't do something about it, I am going to be selling this computer and getting a new M2 Macbook Pro when it comes out... oh, wait, that is what Apple wants me to do, lol nvm!

It's getting worse. Every time you change something with sound it pops. Very frustrating. Especially for a machine (MBP16) of €2500+.

Same here.
Just updated my MBP 16 (2019) to BigSur 11.4 - issue still present :(

QuickTime workaround works just fine.

I Hope Apple fixes this issue soon. Damn shame.
Yeah its horrible, its a shame to have such an issue on a superb laptop speaker

I have the same issue on Big Sur 11.4. I had it before on Catalina and it was fixed by an update.

On macOS 11.5 public beta, the popping sound is still there, but to me, at least it seems that it is occurring less frequently than it did on 11.4/11.3. Hopefully, by the time 11.5 is released, Apple will have fixed it completely.

UPDATE: I believe I found another fix for this popping sound.
_________________________________________________
Steps I took
1. Launch the "audio MIDI Setup" app.
2. Change the format from "44,100 Hz" to "88,200 Hz".
______________________________________
I previously had changed it to 48,000 Hz, which didn't fix the popping sound I had, but when I changed it to 88,200, it reduced the frequency of the popping sound. I can hear it still but not as often; if I skip through a Youtube video three times really fast, I will hear it, but it is quieter than it was previously. Let me know if this fix works for you all as well.

EDIT: This only worked for a short time—the audio issue has returned for me.

Sorry to slightly hijack this thread with a newbie sound question, but what is the default sample rate for MacBook Pro 16 internal speakers and/or earphones?

Is it 48? For basic content playback is there any need/point to change it? I know I remember reading somewhere it was originally 41 but it caused all sorts of crackles? Would setting both to 96 lead to any perceptible quality increase?

Just FYI, I have checked my colleague's MBP16 with BigSur 11.2 - there was no popping.

My "audio popping" only occurs if I've slept the MBP. After wake the USB-C to 3.5mm jack output that hangs off the back of my TB3 Display will pop the Edirol speakers.

But on first startup... I get no such "audio popping" issues all day long, unless I take the laptop off the screen and come back. I invariably shut the lid when carrying the laptop or it will go to sleep at some point.

It then happens each time the sound chip "sleeps". i.e. after a short sound plays a few seconds later the sound chip sleeps and it pops the speakers. If you keep the sound chip pegged (playing something or pretending to record audio) it won't pop.

I can't hear the issue on the internal speakers. It's only when I connect up my external speakers it happens and only after a sleep on 11.3/4.

They have definitely had this fixed in some OS versions. It just keeps coming back. But it has also happened throughout history to every MBP I've ever had. These speakers have been with me for 10-15 years, they have great sound and support loads of different inputs including optical.

On macOS Public Beta 3 11.5. Sound popping issue is still present occasionally. Quicktime Player fix still works though. But I mean like come on Apple get this fixed already!

Quicktime player fix??
The only one I'm aware of it changing a setting in the 'audi MIDI setup' app, as highlighted above?

EDIT : Oh you mean leave QT running and minimized?

UPDATE: NO POPPING SOUNDS!!!

WARNING DO NOT PROCEED WITH THESE STEPS UNLESS YOU HAVE A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR HARD DRIVE AND HAVE SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

I went into DFU mode. I clicked on "restore" to wipe my entire hard drive and reinstall bridgeOS steps listed here: https://support.apple.com/guide/app...r-restore-an-intel-based-mac-apdebea5be51/mac
Then I went into internet recovery mode (shift+option+command+r keys) and reinstalled macOS Catalina 10.15.7 19H15. Now there are NO popping sound issues from the left speaker at all. I put my computer to sleep for a few mins still no problems. I scrubbed through Youtube videos, changed the playback quality, quit safari while playing a video and no popping sound was present. I am now going to try to update back to macOS Big Sur 11.4, and if the issue returns, then well, I guess I will have to wipe my computer again and go back to macOS Catalina 10.15.7 xd.

Updated to macOS Big Sur 11.4 and the popping sound returned... only on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 did the popping sound not occur. :(

So I went back to macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and the popping sound is still NOT present. Big Sur 11.3 - 11.4 = popping sound.

Some good investigation work.
We can only hope an update fixes this somewhere along the line!

Anyone update to macOS 11.5 Beta 4? If so is the popping sound present? I had previously tested macOS 11.5 beta 3 and the popping was still present.
