I have a MBP16” from late 2019.
No external devices connected whatsoever and issue still happens. I don’t think it’s anything to do with external devices or adapters. It’s an internal issue. I never had it with the previous OS either - same system.
My theory is it’s a software issue - most likely a soundcard driver issue of some sort? Apple resolved it once before with a software update, I’m expecting the same again.
Yes, I hope that by the time they release macOS Monterey they will have fixed it. But so far on beta 6 the popping sound is still happening sadly. 😥

I did a PRAM and SMC for those who would suggest trying...believe me, I have done everything known to mankind trying to fix this. It is up to Apple to get this issue resolved! Don't waste your time as I already have wasted countless hours and gained nothing from it.

Has anyone tried to sent his device in? If they can't fix it, they will take it back normally.

Has anyone a reliable way to reproduce the error on demand? A special file, a special way?
On my device the popping occures while jumping around in movie-files or while streaming on netflix or youtube.

I didn't know this also affected Apple Silicon Macs. That is bad news. I thought it was just that Apple weren't going to bother fixing the issue on Intel Macs since they're moving on.

Fresh boot for me = no audio glitches at all. If I keep my Mac awake and don't unplug the TB3 display all is good.

It's also okay in while working in laptop only mode. But as soon as I come back to plug into the TB3 display + external speakers there's audio pops just after a sound stops playing (when that chip sleeps).

So I load QuickTime and leave an audio recording running until the end of the day and then shut down.

Fresh start the next day and all is well. It is very annoying.

This is my last MacBook - I will move to the iMac next time as the MacBook never moves from my desk anyways.
Saying that, I'm in no rush to give Apple more of my money - I'll run the MacBook as long as I can before moving. Guess I'll have to put up with the odd pop as I'm reluctant to upgrade the whole operating system 'as a fix'.

Updated to macOS Monterey Beta 7. I have heard no popping sound as of yet. However, I will need to do some further testing, but it hasn't occurred so far, which is more than I can for macOS Big Sur 11.6, which has the popping sound whenever I pause/skip ahead in audios/videos.

Anyone else on macOS Monterey Beta 7? If so please do let us know if you are still having popping sounds on the latest macOS Monterey Beta.

After further testing macOS Monterey Beta 7 (21A5506j), popping is so far NOT occurring when skipping ahead, pausing, or changing the quality of the video on Safari 15.0 (17612.1.28.5). However, while I am watching a video on Youtube and go to another website from the tab that I was playing that video from, there is still a popping sound that occurs. On Firefox 92.0, popping sound occurs when skipping ahead, pausing, changing the quality of the video, or switching tabs.

I have a MacBook Air M1 with the same issue. I sent a message to applesupport on twitter, and that's the only place I've gotten help from. They wanted to start a case by calling me but I'm too much of socially anxious mess to take a call from Apple so if anyone else wants to get the word out about the audio popping issue twitter and applesupport is the place.

Bought a brand new 2019 MBP 16" when they were first released and the popping is driving me insane. $3k+ for a machine that pops/crackles when listening to youtube or VLC is simply unacceptable.

I'm not sure if I'm relieved or even angrier that M1 macs are exhibiting the same behavior... I had assume it was a T1 chip issue as many T1 macs had issues with USB audio interfaces.

I'm not so in a hurry to buy a M1 mbp now.

11.6 here and just as much crackling as ever.

Thankfully, no crackling when working in Logic, Ableton or Bitwig with my Apogee interface using monitors or cans. The moment I relocate and go 'mobile' to the couch to casually work or audio edit it's a different story. Youtube seems to be the worst culprit.

I didn't notice anything different but also I can't stand the popping sound so I either use bluetooth headphones or do the QuickTime trick to get it to stop so I wouldn't have noticed anyway haha.

Good news! So far all audio popping issues I was having before have been fixed in macOS Monterey 12 Beta 8. The only time I have popping sounds is while playing Youtube videos on Firefox 92.0.1.

Also REALLY GOOD NEWS! Apple is finally taking these popping sound issues seriously!

That's good to hear, but I don't want to have to upgrade my entire OS just to fix an audio popping issue......
Still hoping a Big Sur update will fix this, but I'm not holding my breath.....

Yeah, I doubt that Apple will release a Big Sur update that fixes the popping sound. But, one can always hope that they will.

macOS Monterey 12 Beta 9 has been very stable for me so far. In fact, for me personally, I don't notice a difference between Beta 9 and Big Sur 11.6.1 in terms of stability and performance. They both feel the same to me, and I like that the popping sound isn't occurring at all in Safari or the Tv app, etc. Only in Firefox does the popping sound occur, which seems strange to me, so this weekend I will be sending a new ktrace as well as a new sysdiagnose to the Apple Feedback team so they can hopefully fully address these popping sounds.

Almost 2 years after launch still no fix. They just don't f care, they already have the money.
By far the worst Mac I have had (besides this popping, I don't like the overheating, it slows down the computer. And I have some Bluetooth/connection problems). And the funny part is, it is the most expensive one I have bought. If you sell it for this price I expect certain quality and service. It's a joke.

I've got hear troubleshooting a random popping sound I get with my new bluetooth headphones (AKG k371-bt). The popping happens completly randomly when playing sounds (using spotify or youtube). I'd actually call the sound more of a 'click'.

I'm using a MBP (LATE 2015) with BigSur 11.6. I didn't have this issue with my beats Solo3 wireless or some cheap Betron HD800x bluetooth headphones. So I can't understand why, I'm getting it now with better headphones!?

The popping/clicking doesn't occur if the headphones are plugged or and it doesn't happen through the onboard speakers either. I've also tested my headhpones with other devices and no popping/clicking occurs.

is this the same issue everyone else is talking about?

WTF, having had the bug on and off through various updates I thought it was finally squashed but now it just came back in 11.6 though I am on the safari 15.1 beta because honestly the Safari 15.0 release version was worse than the beta.
