I tried setting media.autoplay.bock-webaudio from false to true, and the popping sound is slightly better, but it is still occurring for me.Hello,
Could you please test with this setting?
Open Firefox --> Go to about:config in URL --> Search media.webspeech.synth.enabled (true --> false) --> Restart Firefox
Edit: This doesn't work for me. I play a YouTube video and I open this website on a 2nd tab (scroll up and down quickly) and audio cracking appears. Could you try?

I try now with media.autoplay.block-webaudio (false --> true). It's better now, no ???
tested with brand new machine today - horrendous popping and cracklingJust downloading Monterey now......
Anyone tested on the official release?
yip meHas anyone tried to sent his device in? If they can't fix it, they will take it back normally.
Has anyone a reliable way to reproduce the error on demand? A special file, a special way?
On my device the popping occures while jumping around in movie-files or while streaming on netflix or youtube.
Actually T2-chip Intel machines didn't come out until 2018. 2016-2017 Mac's used the T1 chip.Audio popping/crackling-problems started with the T2-chip in Intel machines (2016).
Obviously still a problem on M1 Macs (wether on Big Sur or Monterey).
Since this problem still is here 5 years on makes me believe that this is a hardware issue (T2/M1).
If you want problem free audio on Mac: stick to 2015 (or older) Intel Macs.
I know that this audio popping / crackling-problem is a software issue. I think it started after el capitan. High sierra was popping and crackling on my older mac but after going back to older mac os it was gone. Windows on bootcamp was working fine too. I now have new 16 inch macbook pro and it is still popping / crackling when its connected to my DAC.Audio popping/crackling-problems started with the T2-chip in Intel machines (2016).

Just updated too. Now the real test is wake from the sleep cuz it was definitely popping in 12.0.1 for meOn macOS 12.1 RC, popping sound is still present in Firefox (95.0), and also I can hear it sometimes in Opera (latest version). Safari has zero popping sounds (for me). Chrome (96.0) so far has not had any popping sounds either.

I have a Macbook Air M1, bought a week ago. Whenever there's a video file with audio, whether I play it with sound or not, I hear the popping / crackle. Only solution is to have something running that makes it so that the sound card doesn't deactivate or whatever it is that it does.
I'm considering heading to an iStore and ask about this matter. However, I've absolutely 0 hopes of coming back with a worthwhile response.
Yes, however considering the amount of people that I have seen returning their mac and coming back with the exact problem doesn't really entice me to do so. But oh well. I'll give an update on what I'm told. I'll be having a support call tomorrow, beforehand.Although it seems a software issue, you are still able to return and replace the system if it was only purchased a week ago......

Haven't come across that yet. What steps, video, volume level, etc. to replicate?
