I am able to set the double tap to bring down control center (which was unreachable for my tiny hand) and the triple tap brings up hey google (Siri shortcut) which helps because all of my home automation is done through google.
having customizable ”buttons” is suuuuuuuuper handy.

I might agree with you on this, especially as they add more functionality. It's not as sexy as widgets but probably something I'll get a lot more practical use from.

Is there limited device support for this? i can't find it on 8+.
Unfortunately seems like that's the case, with iPhone X and newer models being supported (not counting the recent SE refresh).

I have double tap set for Hey Google and triple set for a screenshot!

Hopefully they'll tune this through the betas. I had to turn off the double-click one as it kept activating just by putting the phone down. The triple click is working well though.

Well it's a bit odd considering the 8+ was released the same year as the X and have the same processor.

I don’t see the back tap option in settings > accessibility. Nothing is listed after call audio recording.

I have the new SE. I am guessing it isn’t supported.
Still curious what makes the feature work since they added current internals to the new SE. What parts were required that weren't added?

Can someone explain what "back tap" is? You literally tap the back of the phone/case?

Extra cool thing would be if they make it so if you set Home to one of the taps, the home bar will be removed from apps or at least certain apps you can set like games.

Agreed, although it's possible there are some other hardware differences that might be behind that.
Someone said it's devices with tap to wake which neither 8 nor SE2020 have, so it make more sense to me now. Still want to know the issue with SE2020 not supporting long press on lock since the screen is the same as 8, and it works on 8.

I'm not certain that Haptic Touch (or long-press) on notifications on the lock screen works on 8.

From what I've found it works on 6s and up other than SE2020. XR had the issue at first, but they fixed it, and SE long press works for other things, so it is definitely hardware supported. They just need to fix the software.

my guess is it uses some of the tech in the notch...which is why it doesn't work on notch-less phones....
Someone said it only works on tap to wake devices, which makes sense to me.

Maybe it only works for phones with wireless charging?
Probably a sensor there!

It doesn't on iPhone 7 for example. 3D Touch works there, but if you turn off 3D Touch then most places that support it will still work the same way using Haptic Touch (long-press), but some places, like notifications, will not. There's actually an ongoing discussion about that at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-se-long-press-quick-reply-not-working.2232618/
