Backtap is by far my favorite feature in iOS 14

This may be a bug, but Back Tap is possible on iPhone 8/ SE and ilk. I upgraded from 13.6 beta to iOS 14, the option existed. Only when I restored fresh via DFU that the option has disappeared. Leads me to think that the option is only artificially removed on notch-less iPhones. Hardware has nothing to do with this, this is just Apple being Apple. Although, it is entirely possible that the option is enabled for all phones in coming weeks. I say this only because I have seen that option on my 8 when I upgraded OTA.

Now that I did not check. Setting was present under Settings > Accessibility > Touch if I am not mistaken. I only saw it once, so do not remember. I am wondering if I want to restore to 13.6 beta and upgrade OTA to see if that returns.. currently the beta is running smooth, I am not particularly willing to go through the hassles and spend time restoring and reinstalling, otherwise I would have, just to see if that option returns. I think Apple may bring this to notch-less devices, but it could just be one of those nonsensical things they do to create yet another feature-divide between their devices.

That's my bad, I thought I saw it there. That said, it looks like the back tap feature should support shortcuts, so if a shortcut is set up to open the Camera app then the back tap can be configured to make use of that shortcut.

Set triple tap to a shortcut that I do frequently, connect to blue tooth speaker and play specific playlist. Flawless. Here is the shortcut:

Does it only work when the phone is awake? I would hope this would prevent accidental activation when it is in a pocket.

What about when it is in a mount while driving and active? Is it going off the whole time??

Awake AND unlocked.

I haven’t noticed any accidental triggers yet when mounted in my car

It can be linked to a Shortcut, so the sky is (almost) the limit.

How can i set this to hey google? I cant find google in my short cuts...

I am able to set the double tap to bring down control center (which was unreachable for my tiny hand) and the triple tap brings up hey google (Siri shortcut) which helps because all of my home automation is done through google.
having customizable ”buttons” is suuuuuuuuper handy.

Well it's a bit odd considering the 8+ was released the same year as the X and have the same processor.

Beta 3 added the back tap feature for the iPhone 8 Plus, and for the iPhone 8 too I suppose.

Seems much better for me on B3. I haven't gotten a false activation with triple-tap so far.

Apple should have given the user the ability to set the sensitive to invoke, like they do with haptic feedback on the phone. Set to either level 1, 2, or 3.

Are you guys using a case? I've got a thin case and the only time it triggers is if I accidently tap my fingers whilst using the phone. I've even tested putting it down fairly hard on a table and it doesn't trigger. Are you guys chucking it from one end of a room to the other! 😂

i just put it down on my desk, or a table. if the phone's open, it often opens control center (what i set for 2 taps). am hoping PB2 will fix it (as has been suggested above, in the current dev beta)
