Coming back here after a couple weeks of ownership of my used iMac Pro (2017 base version). I have an eGPU connected to a 144hz 1440p gaming display (RX 5700 XT).

The heaven (and other benchmarks) for the eGPU are marginally faster than the Vega 56 benchmarks, so it would seem you aren’t going to get much difference for gaming purpose... but I find that to be false in real world experiences and the eGPU is a great add on for gaming.

The iMac Pro is basically silent (1000-1100 RPMs on the fans, which are amazing) through any task. And if I hard-set them to full blast (2500 RPMs) I get CPU temps in the high 40s under moderate load.

I never turn the fans on because you don’t need to. The system is dead stable (significant # of peripherals attached + eGPU, etc).

I have had the eGPU crash on standby that many note and experience from time to time once, but else it is totally stable.

without a doubt this is my favorite Apple machine I’ve owned - the m1 MBP comes close because of all the reasons, but AS doesn’t meet my needs for all the things i want to do, so by default it can’t be my favorite machine.
