I'm not sure if you posted what GPU's you got, I assume the D300's as you got your new mac early, but could you run one or both of the Heaven and Valley benchmarks? Many of us are wondering how the D300's perform. Please use the extreme preset like Barefeats does. Thanks!

ok

I'm a little baffled about the Christmas release, busy time of year for me and a little weird for a pro machine

Ohh! Ohh! I want the old standard and not the new one for $500 Alex!

TB is a standard now ????? You mean when you only live in the Apple ecosystem.

When the rest of the industry starts using it I will get excited.

----------

Enjoy your new machine .

If it meets all your needs , grats !!!!!

Also you most likely won't upgrade anything except CPU (be careful though) and RAM. HDD and graphics are proprietary and there won't be Macvidcards to the rescue this time around. So really, your machine will be outperformed by a notebook soon and there's little you can do.

Under OSX in the nMP only a single video card is utilized for gaming (as above bench shows); Under bootcamp both D300's are utilized in crossfire and will annihilate any 'notebook' mobile gpu.

Thanks! I don't want to seem ungrateful, you went out of your way by running a benchmark for me, but by not picking the extreme preset, we can't compare apples to apples sorta speak. Scroll down here and you'll see some results from other Mac's on the extreme preset. Thanks again!

May I ask for a 3rd run? very kindly of course. Normal Heaven4 in fullscreen, no AA and 1680*1050. I would love to compare with my 5870. Thx in advance.

Why wouldn't you run it the same as he did? Seems a lot easier and you also could compare it to the macs in the link I posted. I get a end result of 15.1 fps on my 5870.

Wow, iMac best's the D300 in Heaven! Thanks for the test!

Wrong.

I'd put money on an Alienware 18 with dual 780m to beat the nMP with D300 crossfire. Yes there are still big nasty notebooks out there with very impressive processing power!!!

We already can see that the iMacs single 780m can take on a single D300.

That's not surprising since a D300 is the same chip/clocks as a 7970m which is more around 775m level. If you game in windows though the mac pro will own the imac. It's close enough for my needs.

Now if someone could please run this exact test with the D500 i would know what to order. I expect the D500 to be slower at this test, but i wanna be sure.

And to compare with a Mac Mini ... lol

But it does make you think... maxed out iMac OR base nMPro (for Bootcamp gaming) - price is the same

Here's the D500's from anther thread. It's be nice to have them all together with the D700's too.

now this is interesting, this slow the D500 is slower then D300. This making D500 in a very strange position.

This was to be expected. Surprised me the difference is so small tbh. You should only buy a a D500 if you're interested in double precision GPU compute.
If you want to play the occasional game after work, you're better off with the D300s. Would be nice if we get a D700 score.

Not sure if D700 will give us another surprise score.. :D and we will see a lot of people dropping D700 and switch to D300... :p

I'll concede. I haven't shopped for a notebook in years and didn't realize there are dual 780m notebooks out there. (aside: they ain't pretty)

Shame the new quad core has over 25% better single core performance which is gonna be more noticeable in most daily usage scenarios.

My GTX680 2GB is very slow compared to a GTX680 4GB, it seems.

On the other hand, it's so much faster than the dual D300. Looking forward to D700 numbers, but so far it's quite amusing that a discontinued graphics card beats Apples top-of-the-line and currently non-upgradable cards.
