Did you actually see it in the system profile/manager? I've heard that beeing said before from store personel without proper info.

Actually, no..the demos were all 128SSD. I was assuming the Apple sales gal knew what she was talking about.

I did repeat my questions and specifically asked, Base Model Macbook with 120gb HDD. and she said yes.

Yeah, i've heard that one before. Read about a guy here somewhere in the states who like triple-checked, asked to speak to the manager who confirmed it, drove like 100miles - only to drive back again. They probably had the old 80GB still in stock or something.

Ummm, don't know how to put this nicely but - Apple store workers can be freakin' morons! So many times I walk into an Apple store and I swear I know more about what's going on in Apple-world than they do. Does Apple make them give up reading newspapers, cut their internet connections and turn off their TV's to work there? Or are they just plain stupid??

I don't think a hdd model has shipped yet.

I just got back from my local Apple store here in Rancho Cucamonga, California. They have the base MBA with 120gb HD in stock.
Funny because I just called and they said they didn't have any.

Did you actually see it in the system profile/manager? I've heard that beeing said before from store personel without proper info.
I agree. I've been told numerous times now the HDD models are in stock, when I go there @ lunch ... I find out they're the Rev A.

BTW when I called the girl and asked "Do you have the HDD model of the MB Airs in stock?" She said "what size?" Yeah my friends ... she asked WHAT SIZE?

The next question was (that she asked me) "how much does it cost?" I said, "$1799". She giggles and says "oh I know what you're talking about now."
I am not driving to Rancho tonight based on that info alone. And the answer was still no btw. Her exact words were, "we do not have any 1.6 with 120gb hard drives but I have a 128gb hard drive one but it is faster."

I hope you are not angry because I told you the surprise inside your MBA :D

Hmm now that you mention it... you owe me a surprise ;)
Man that would have been awesome, discovering it. Not sure i would have though, as i'm only helping my mom order the computer (i'm her tech support haha).

Thanks for the tip. I missed the same thing on my order. I noticed the delivery date changed (but not the shipping date strangely). Just checked now and they've canceled the original order (120Gb regular drive) and upgraded it to a 128Gb SSD for the same price! Great stuff!

It's probably because the order has been delayed since October 23rd.

Seriously, wft? Is apple saying anything about this? Or they just keep pushing it back the HDD trying to get people to pony up for the SSD?

I would love some sort of explanation... but alas, I sit and wait.

I'm planning on buying the 1.6 GHz, 120 SATA, $1799, base model on Black Friday. Do you guys think Apple brick & mortar stores will have them in stock by then?

Unless you live in the states it would'nt really be a "free" upgrade since it costs more here (about 2100$ for the base model)

Nop, it seems to be for everyone who has ordered the MBA 120GB HDD on October 14 (Keynote day).

By the way, don't forget that Europeans pay much more for Apple products than US people (i.e. MBA in US : 1799$, in Europe : 2140$).

The price difference is mainly based on the fact, that in Europe prices must be labeled already including the VAT. E.g. 20% here in Austria. Apple still charges a little more, but got more accurate for dollar/euro conversion recently.

I agree calling the Apple store employee a genius is like calling the guy at McDonald's a chef.

When I bought my new Macbook Air the "genius" asked me what size SSD I wanted. I mean wtf kind of question is that?

Yeah, the definitely only know the official party line (if that much). Several have told me that they are told NOT to go to any of the rumor/insider sites for additional information. I'm kind of surprised they seem to follow that guidance.

You sure you didn't buy it from a Specialist? I've never seen a Genius have time to leave the Genius Bar to come out on the sales floor and sell something. They're always repairing stuff. However, running into a Specialist (those are the less-technical people on the sales floor, usually with those EasyPay PDA checkout things to ring you up) that was unaware of the SSD size wouldn't surprise me.
