Battery time is still a problem to you?

Sarcasm aside, Apple does seem to put profits above listening to it's customers. There is an air of "we know best, what the customer needs" that continues to be the elephant in the room. I'm not looking for an argument, but my sense is there would be many who agree with my opinion.
And many who would disagree for variety of reasons.

And what you mentioned is hardly an elephant in the room given that it has been essentially at the foundation of how Apple has approached things in general.

OK, your defense of Apple has convinced me ... iOS 11 is the greatest, exactly what's best for us.

Interesting how simply not just jumping head first for one extreme means that you are automatically on the other extreme, as if the reality of things being far more nuanced than that just doesn't exist.

So happy for you that your reality of things is so nuanced ... while real people have had their phones negatively affected by simply downloading an official Apple update.

Nothing of what I said denies that or argues against the reality that there are those that have issues.

Yeah I agree. I did similar tests, even tried turning off cellular and all location services. There seems to be some low-level problem. I don't even want to add up the number of hours I wasted experimenting, not to mention the months of irritation trying to figure it out.

As a software developer I can see these things happening, but I think it is really outrageous that you cannot downgrade to the last version. Their mistake made my very expensive phone unusable. You should be able to restore to the state you bought the phone in.

One thing that seems to have helped is disabling most iCloud services. In particular iCloud Photo Library (although I made so many changes it could be something else). I only have about 65 photos in my entire camera roll, and I take 2-3 photos a day so it couldn’t be chewing up cycles trying to sync the photos. I switched to google photos a while back and regularly free up space in my camera roll. The only iCloud service I left on is Find my phone. Coupled with disabling Bluetooth and all background app refresh has improved battery life somewhat. YMMV

Making statements about battery life without providing some information about what you run and how really helps nothing. If people have issues with battery life - there are people who would like to and maybe could help if instead of just a complaint maybe additional information might help.
What does battery usage under setting show? It has happened since IOS 0.0.1 that sometimes updates cause running apps to go wild - so you force stop them and re-start them.
Are you doing background app refreshes? Are you running FaceBook or Youtube (both apps have been known to run down battery in the past.
What are you having SIRI search through so indexing is required.
If you want to fix your problem rather than just complain provide information and maybe some here can help you

I wish the poll was worded differently. Battery life/time has never been an issue for me, so the wording of 'is it still a problem for you' wasn't entirely appropriate.

Today was the first time ever that my SE shut down and i got a new entry under the beta battery status. I got 86% and the battery must obviously be replaced.

Every time I take my phone off the charger at 100%, the usage and standby times go up together even when I'm not using it...then when I go to check the battery usage, App Store audio is the top item listed...one time it went over 60%. I reset all settings and it fixed it for one cycle, now it's doing it again. Hopefully 11.4 fixes it, or maybe I'll just jump onto the 12.0 beta in June.

That’s a routine problem of just the app getting stuck in the background. A simple restart and charging back to 100% should fix it. Provided the app is not running in the app switcher. This has been an issue since iOS 2.

That seems to be it, just annoying that it happens every single time I go to 100%. I'm basically restarting the phone once per day.

Interested if you've got anything that supports this. Please don't get me wrong here though, I'm not disagreeing with any of this, in fact I can quite believe it having just seen my 11.2 iPhone 7+ drop to 75% in just 3 hours this morning (and watched it drop 2% in 2 minutes ) until I recharged it and swiped all the apps away at which point it seems to be stable again. I'd just like to see more about it is all.

I have nothing to offer but my experience for the last decade. But there have been dozens of threads created with the same issue going back almost 10 years now.

Seems too easy to say it’s getting stuck in the background because it happens immediately after coming off the charger and even if I don’t open the App Store app at all.

Used to have huge battery drain on my 6S, regardless of iOS version. The culprit is Facebook. I uninstalled it, and no more significant battery drain. I rely on the web app from now on. It is funny that Apple has not flagged the Facebook app as malware.

Some other issues that might affect battery life that I have experienced (regardless of iOS issue):
- Exchange. If you have email accounts using exchange, sometimes they could be quite a battery drain for whatever reason (syncing issues, etc). An option is to delete and re-add those accounts.
- iCloud Safari syncing. This was another huge battery drain for me one time. I disabled it, and the problem went away. Try switching this off and on again.

The biggest culprit so far is still Facebook, and that app won't touch my iPhone ever again until it is flagged as malware and removed from the app store (because until that is done, looks like Facebook doesn't care fixing it, regardless of what they said).

App Store is a core app and runs in background even without the app open. It will automatically check for updates. It won’t install unless you turn that on, but it is auto checking. That alone leaves a great possibility for something to get stuck.

I don't think I've really had it auto check much ever, but especially in iOS 11, given that even when I launch it and go to the updates section, more than half the time no new updates are displayed until I actually pull down and manually refresh the updates section.

If you have snapchat, instagram or facebook/facebook messenger, that is likely your problem. They continue to run in the background even with background app refresh off and the app closed. Its not a "dumb phone" you just need to find the cause of the problem. iOS will hardly have things run in the background, more times than not, its a third party app issue.
I would appreciate elaboration on this. I’m getting a bad feeling lately about these super big apps - particularly Facebook/Facebook owned apps

Mine is constantly auto checking. I hardly ever open my App Store, yet I always get badges for updates.

Not much more I can elaborate on. These apps are essentially malware as pika2000 stated above. Facebook is the biggest, followed by FB Messenger and Snapchat. They constantly run in the background, even if the apps are closed and BAR is turned off.

It's interesting, while there are definitely those with those apps running excessively, I use the Facebook apps off and on in most days and with perhaps some rare exceptions I never have more than a few minutes of background usage (and the expected amount of on screen usage).
