79% is the limit in which apple will replace the battery right? I can tell it's getting weaker as it gets lower the percentage starts to get erratic I already had a battery change 2 years ago.

Anything is possible. If you pay out of pocket, you can get it replaced before 79%. If you're trying to get it under AppleCare+ then you might have to pay monthly until it reads 79%.. It took my watch 8 months to go from 80% to 79%..

Yeah I have apple care on it that's why lol how much is it out of pocket anyways? I was just wondering because here they are saying Apple refused to do the battery replacement even if they wanted to pay out of pocket because it didn't each the replacement threshold.

Charge it to 100% and let it sit. Run it dead and hard down to zero. Keep it extra warm. Degrade that bugger!
The phone gets super hot on a video call plus fast charging I'm shocked it never kicks off due to the temps.. But I did find out I can't have my sunroof open plus charging at the same time.

Apple charges $89 U.S. to replace the battery in a 12 Pro.. I've had 2 batteries replaced in different iPhones both above 82%. As long as you pay, they'll do it. Now for watches and iPads, they won't touch the device unless it shows 79% or lower. This is mainly because they don't replace the battery, they give you a remanufactured like new watch or iPad in exchange for yours..

I’ll share my experience with you in this regard. I had an iPhone 14 PM, and the battery quickly dropped to 83%, in just 15 months. Then it “magically” stopped at 83% 🧐
Other 6 months and the battery remained at 83%… which is technically impossible. My AppleCare+ was expiring in one month, so I called Apple customers support. The answer: at 83% we won‘t replace your battery for free. I opted for a trade-in for a new iPhone 16 PM, but just for your information I checked the battery with Battery Stats and the reported health was 78%, even if iOS insisted on 83%…
I think the AppleCare+ expiration date is somehow “included” in the battery health algorithm … 😏

On iPad Apple is replacing just the battery. At least on the Pro.

What is that “Battery Stats” of which you speak?

BTW, my iPhone 12 Pro Mac did the same thing at 82%, but I never owned AppleCare. Got $999 as a trade in at three years old for a 15PM, which I am babying.

My Apple Watch was at 82% when my AC+ expired, so I just renewed AC+ on a monthly basis - 2 months, I was able to get the battery replaced (well, the WATCH replaced due to the battery is how they do watches) and then dropped the AC+.

My 14 Pro's battery health went from 84% to 82% in the last 3 or so weeks since my AC+ ended. Not doing anything different. I'm not sure if it just starts to degrade faster as it gets lower or what's happening.

:D

There was a period of time a few years back (before Covid) where my daily trip home from work took 45 minutes to an hour. That's because of traffic, which turns a 20-25 minute trip into that at the time of day I was leaving.

What does that have to do with anything? Well, I live in Phoenix. Around May is when we get our first 100º day and temps don't get below that until mid to late October. In August, the average temps are above 110º.

Now, the car I'm driving at that time is an older car and all four windows are stuck closed. The A/C compressor died years ago so there's no A/C. So, I'm in this car in 100 plus degree heat for 45 minutes to an hour, five times a week. No windows down, no A/C.

With an iPhone 6s Plus.

It STILL took that iPhone until November 2021 to get the battery below 80 percent. And this was with several 'overheat, iPhone shutting down' warnings while being in this car with me.

I'm just saying…

I was in a thread here some time ago where the OP was wanting to replace their battery at 80 or 81 percent. They were willing to pay, yet Apple said no.

I know you and others have had that issue but I've had no such issues at the Scottsdale Quarter Apple Store. They replaced one battery at 86% and another at 82%. Turn around was a little over an hour..

My wife and I used to work for UPS (that's where I met her) and periodically they had everyone on our sort go through 'training' whenever UPS did something new. For us specifically, as we were irreg drivers, we also got safety videos.

Each and every time we got some idyllic production of a clean facility where the workers were always following safe work methods, smiling and having a good time. It was never reflective of the hub (Ontario, California) we actually worked in. All of us (my wife and I and the rest of the irreg drivers) began to refer to these videos as 'Happy Hub Productions'.

The Scottsdale Quarter Apple Store sounds quite like that. To me. :)

Maybe it's where Apple drops all the good/great employees, LOL!

The battery health stat is intentionally rigged to stay above 79% for a long long time for this very reason. No free battery replacement for you!
Indeed. I strongly suspect the algorithm is somehow “biased”. The discrepancy between iOS and Battery Stats is suspicious : it always was very accurate for me UNTIL it reached 83%. At that point battery Stats keep reporting a degrading battery (82…81… down to 78% in 6 months) while iOS still reported 83% steady.

I think it really depends on the store you are asking. I had a battery replaced at 82% a few years ago.

Upstate NY . Was FL.
It ain’t gone move 🤣, - Apples battery wear algorithm yo’ . I feel for some folks that pay AppleCare 10-12$ a month with a view of getting their battery replaced for “free” at some point during, 24-48 months time.
