There’s definitely something wrong with Safari on my iPhone X running 11.2. Showing Safari using 37% in 24hrs.

For the 3rd time today, it has generated a lot of heat on the motherboard in a short amount of time while on Safari and I had to shut down to cool it down. Was as warm as if updating iOS or a bunch of apps. Kind of glad I had a bumper for better heat dissipation.

Edit: I found that visiting 9to5Mac.com overheated my iPhone X within a few minutes. They’re off limits for now. I wonder what other sites are affected. MacRumors seems unaffected. Thoughts?

Even with Adblockers turned off, the phone battery dropped quite fast. Light usage in the dark, looking at this forum, battery is now at 53%.
Before 11.2, same usage, battery should be around 79%.

Safari is killing the battery. I’m also using same WiFi access points as well most of the time.

I'm sorry. I read sarcasm where there is not. Please accept my apologies.
It's really easy to read antagonistic sarcasm 'round here.

React last with emotion from perceived attack: which is usually good internet practice, anyway.

Hopefully, rationality and calm discussion will win in the end..........

Do you have Siri suggestions all turned off?

If not, try turning it off and see how that goes. I suspect it's Siri running in background and learning about browsing so it can suggest things in messages and mail like it said it was supposed to......

Just a theory

I have Siri turned off, but it was On in Safari.
Not sure if it was on in safari before the update. I do remember after updating to 11.2, phone asked me if I want to turn on Siri and I said No.

Update.

I think you are correct. I turned off Siri in Safari and the battery usage has dropped. After 20min of usage, battery hasn’t dropped even by 1%.
Went to another forum, did google search, went online store browsing.
Battery life is stable now.

Thanks dude!

Its annoying that Apple turned on that future with out my permission and it has such a high battery drain.

Sweet! You're welcome. Glad the theory worked out for yah. That's really, really good to hear that turning off a setting will improve battery life. I'm still one of  *those people* holding out from updating because I'm worried about battery drain, ha.

It's kind of always been Apple's MO to turn features on so we can have "the best experience possible"... but it's very good they give us the option to turn the features off.

@KGB7 (wanted to make sure you got all the edits.)

Ill test it further today and let you know later today. It was late last night and i didn't have the time or energy to stay up longer to test Safari past 20min.

The most recent YouTube update could be causing the battery drain that I have been experiencing. The inconsistencies of the app of have had me worried and caused me to delete it. For example, after the latest update it keeps freezing on the home screen when trying to scroll or clicking on videos don't work. When I uninstalled and re-installed, instead of having the wide bar with pause/play and rewind controls (when you minimize videos) I had the old small video window when minimizing (where it is only the video minimized with no controls). This makes no sense as I had just had the app installed with the newer controls, but deleting and re-installing all within in 3 mins caused the old behavior.

These inconsistencies (along with the past problems of battery life) just have me way too cautious to download it again.

Ha, okay. thanks

I’m having great battery life on my X which surprised me as on my 7Plus with 11.2 I was getting awful battery life.

Considering the apps I’m using (and that i restored from my 7P backup onto the X) I think this is really good.

not like this helps the OP, but my battery life has been phenomenal after 11.2 on an iPhone X...getting nearly 2 days of pretty heavy use.

To any 11.2 iPhone X users, watch out for some websites that may result in abnormal heating. Based on temp readings from coconutBattery off my Mac, my fully charged iPhone X went from 26.9°C to 35.2°C while being idle on 9toMac.com (using Safari) for 8 minutes.

So, my battery life seems to have improved considerably. I deleted YouTube, and disabled the 'Search & Siri Suggestions' but kept 'Show App' on Safari. Don't really know whether deleting YouTube or disabling Siri fixed it. I'll try to download YouTube and see what the results are for tomorrow.

After jump to 11.2
my Display look diff like brand new unboxing drom apple store , resolution look decreased or something weird,

Perhaps something happened with your install (as strange as that might still be)?

After restore iphone my battery have this result , is this normal with 11.2 ,,,

i forgot how is 11.1 result /

After reading this topic, I’ve decided I won’t be buying an iPhone X. I’m gonna keep using my iPhone SE. iOS 11 has definitely affected my SE’s battery life significantly by as much 70% less usage time. I’m talking about 2 and a half hours of usage time compared to 9 hours before

I just update my se to 11.2 today. I’ll see how it does.

screen shot is build full screen snap - default like that ,

Hi guys, so my iPhone X battery life has gone back to 'normal' again, pre-iOS 11.2 update. I noticed that the culprits, at least for me, was YouTube & Safari, so here's what I did:

1. Settings -> Siri & Search -> Safari -> Disable 'Search & Siri Suggestions' but keep 'Show App'.
2. Settings -> YouTube -> Disable 'Notifications' & 'Background App Refresh'.

Among other potential issues - background app activity especially when not on WiFi or with a great signal. I find that battery usage has been very different for years when I spend a day on WiFi vs. a day when it is cellular service.

So I had noticed the battery drain in all the 11.2 betas, just kind of chalked it up to it being a beta. After the GM had the issue, my normal reset of all settings solution didn’t do it, and a few friends asking me about it, I saw this thread. So far disabling Search and Siri Suggestions tip seems to have definitely helped. Safari is always my main battery drain (lots of reading the news etc) followed by Twitter. I also disabled background app refresh for a Twitter, if battery life continues to seem improved I’ll re-enable Twitters background app refresh to see if it’s just the Safari Siri suggestions.
