Those people could be buying cheaper iPhone 8 or even 7 phones if the battery is somehow the main/only reason they are buying a new phone.
They are updating from iphone 7 plus, the 8plus is same as 7plus, but with X they get 10+ hours usage. I know the iOS is causing the problem but it is only causing problem for older phones not X model. With so many people having battery problem after updating to iOS 11, it is unbelievable Apple tested it properly! What do you think?

All those people are upgrading from 7 Plus which is an old phone? And an 8 Plus is the same as 7 Plus? And the X gets 10+ hours of usage when there are threads with people not getting anything like that while there are those that show people with 8 Plus getting a fair bit more than that? Seems like the details don't quite add up when they are actually examined.

If you are spending money to upgrade why not get the flagship which you know Apple has best optimised iOS for? 7 Plus users love flagship phones and not mid range phones.

They also love Plus sized phones. Why go for a smaller one? Why is it somehow only 7 Plus users that are in this demographic of those with issues with these "old" phones? Once again, the details don't quite add up, which isn't all that unusual when it comes with hyperbole, overgeneralizations, deflections, and all that other "fun" stuff.

The 8 Plus is a sidegrade while the X is a upgrade. The X has a higher quality but a smaller oled display. It's better in every respect than the 7 Plus. The 8 Plus isn't. Better to sacrifice screen size for the bezelless experience. Those bezels look horrendous by 2017 standards.

People go for the smaller phone as it has the most upgrades. The 8 Plus is a 7 Plus with a newer processor and True Tone. The X has a bezelless oled display, FaceID, much better cameras, a more premium stainless steel design, a much better optimised OS for it, OIS in both cameras. Also doesn't have home button delay.

Also I believe all iPhone users before the 7 Plus should be included in this. The 7 Plus is an old phone now because that's how it performs on iOS 11.

It’s meaningless. You have no accurate measure of time and look at something like the the YouTube app which had massive issues with inefficiency. Your “moderate use” metric is meaningless.
I start using my 7 Plus at 7AM-8AM and it’s running on fumes by 3PM on iOS 11. On iOS 10 it was easily lasting one full working day on a single charge

It’s the software. It’s the hardware, it’s the model, or it’s the ....

All I know is that on my 7+ and IPP 12.9 G2 my battery has dropped 30% or more since updating to iOS 11.
Getting the “X”? No. Battery aside it has too many shortcomings for my needs / wants.

I'm not agree with that. The X is not better in every way for everyone. Many tests claims Touch ID is still more accurate than FaceID. The screen different aspect ratio makes watching video an overall less enjoyable experience for many people as well.

And I always laugh when people says that Bezels phone is so 2011-12 and its not 2017 anymore. Bezels never bothers me, in fact, I still prefer the look of a phone with bezels, it feel weird for me without it.

YouTube battery tests say otherwise...

That’s with moderate use as usual. 2.4 hours of Safari browsing and 1 hour of Apollo on Reddit.

Same usage with iOS 10 easily reaches 10 hours of usage and with extremely heavy use it lasted 7 hours on iOS 10. I know this because this has been my usage pattern for more than a year.

Because since iOS 11 is only optimised for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 to a certain extent there is no point getting a phone which will not run iOS 11 well.

That’s speculation. Maybe iOS 11 is not optimised well for any device, but works better on those phones because they have more capable hardware. That’s speculation, too, of course.

Here’s another possibility: suppose the phone is not correctly calculating its true charge level. E.g., when it thinks it’s at 100%, it’s actually at 50%. So it stops charging when the level is only at half of its capacity. And that drop you see from 100% to 50% is in reality a drop from 50% to 25%, i.e., a drop of only 25%, which would naturally be faster than an actual drop of 50%. There are all sorts of mad imaginable possibilities

Anyway, what is this nonsense?

This is an absolute falls statement. The 8 plus has more similarities in terms of feature with the X than the 7 plus.

It doesn't. The X has bezelless OLED display, FaceID, OIS in the telephoto lens , stainless steel design which are user facing changes and what give the X its\ high price. The only similarity 8 Plus has with the X is the A11 Bionic, TrueTone and wireless charging. Add in wireless charging, A11 Bionic and TrueTone to 7 Plus and you have a 8 Plus.

Cosmetic differences aside, performance wise they (X) are identical with the 8 arguably faster at certain tasks due to the home button. There’s not much difference between the 7 and 8 but judging by how much iOS 11 rinses the battery on the 7 perhaps the 8 is more optimised.

That's actually very good battery life considering the fact that if I used the Facebook app like you did my 7 Plus battery would be dead in 5 hours

yes, but from what i see at other threads, some iphone x users can simply hit up to 9-10 hours of usage, without listening to music and low battery mode. i dont see facebook app can consume this much of battery.

from 100-0, i think the maximum usage time is around 6.5 hours. it is a big gap from 9-10 hours.

Just my personal observation but using YouTube,Facebook or Instagram absolutely murders my battery. I use the website to login as battery drain is lesser.

Its funny to see that in most cases, the actual website, even on a small screen, is a way better experience compared to their own app.

iPhone 6: Battery life got worse but could also resulted from being an older device anyway.
iPad Air 2: Battery life definetely decreased.

I agree, it doesn't look very impressive. I get more usage time with 6s on iOS 10 while heavily using twitter and Facebook (and no music).

iPhone 6 on latest iOS 11. Setup as new phone last night again. Can get roughly 30 minutes to an hour of use out of it before its dead. Before 11 I could get a whole day of use without charging. Now I charge my phone at least 5 to 6 times a day. I have lost faith in apple in fixing the issue..they want us to upgrade

yesteday my phone was dead with 30 minute of use and an hour of standby. I have everything turned off too (fetch, background app refresh, low power mode, reduced motion on)

This seems like a huge problem. If you can prove it to Apple then I’m sure they’ll do something about it. Take it to the Apple store and show them the total usage time.

Definitely something wrong hardware wise. Take it to Apple. They’ll do something.

Yeah definitively take it back to Apple, its not normal at all even if iOS 11 is bad with the battery. Your battery drain so fast that you could just demonstrate your problem live at an Apple store and they'll have no choice to admit you have a problem :D
