Definitely something wrong hardware wise. Take it to Apple. They’ll do something.

I really need to. My phone will be at 100% and I'll start using it and within 5 of 10 minutes of use it will shut down and the charge logo will appear. If I wait another few minutes the phone will start back up with the battery at 10% then proceed to shut off again after a couple minutes. Sometimes it will power back on with around 70% then the whole process will start again. It makes my phone unusable unless I leave it on the charger.

Edit: Apple ran diagnostics on phone and there is an issue with the battery..hope it’s free but I highly doubt it. Any idea on how much they charge for a new battery? Guessing it would be cheaper to go to a repair store than through apple

I noticed something weird last week. One evening after dinner, we walked about 20 minutes to an appointment. While outside in the waiting area, I read Facebook, some web sites, etc. Nothing unusual.

My battery was at 17%, so I activated low power mode. It remained at 17% charge for the entire duration of the appointment, about 20-30 minutes. I was using LTE data. Bluetooth and WiFi were both on.

Then we walked home, about 20 minutes. Walked in the house and looked at my phone, and the battery was at 2%. On a 20 minute walk, my battery lost 15% of its charge, with NO ACTIVITY. Crazy.

I’ve also noticed on days where I’m travelling a lot, either on train or subway, that my battery does not last as well as on days where I’m more stationary. My guess is that the OS is now constantly hunting for and pinging off every cellular and WiFi network it can see. This kind of battery suck is new and most unwelcome.

I’m running iOS 11.1 on an iPhone SE that’s about 9 months old.

Since the iOS 11.1.2 and after around a week's of use I start thinking that the battery usage I get is less than on iOS 11.1.1, on which I did a DFU restore. So the results for comparison are the following
11.1.1 - around 8 and a half - 9h of usage and 44 hours of standby
11.1.2 - around 6 and a half - 7 h of usage and 30 hours of standby
Still not quite on par with iOS 10.3.3 but 2 hours have gone
getting no more than 3-4 minutes per percent and 100 to 99% percent is 20 minutes, compared to 37 on iOS 11.1.1
if necessary evidence will be provided so as to solidify my statements
iphone 7 plus user...

If you’re within 2 years and the battery has worn out more than 80% then you can possibly get it done for free within the EU.

I bought it more than 2 years ago. I think it should be replaced free regardless if it's after 2 years. I'll find out tonight if it's going to cost something. My 6 worked perfectly before iOS 11 and all of a sudden my battery is the issue. I know several people that have had the 6 and ended up upgrading because they can't take it anymore. I personally am trying to hold out as long as possible because I don't think anything apple has produced is worth it at the moment.

If you note from other threads Facebook is known to eat battery. Also, if you are in a week cell area that will drastically affect battery life

I’ve seen in a lot of thread that people blame the Facebook app but I’ve never had such issues with that app. I think it really depends on people and if someone uses Facebook a lot then it will drain the battery. Inherently I don’t think the app has any issues.

Yes I will keep the Air2 on 10, no issues there, so don't see need to update it.

For my phone I am happy with most of the 11 features so far, aside from the battery drain and having to go into settings to turn off wifi.
so you're right, prob no reason not to install the the latest 11, that I know of anyway.
Thanks for input.
Thanks. I will keep both iphone and air2 as is for now.

For whatever reason when I tried to install 11.0.3 on Air2 last month on same day as I did the phone , the install was not successful on the Air2 (whyIDK). glad now that at least my Air2 is still on 10.3.3...

Update: I went ahead and installed 11.1.2 on my iphone 7. Battery drain the same :(

went to the apple store last night. They are aware of the battery drain issues with older phones, mine is the 6. Turns out the new iOS is consuming batteries rapidly, but of course they still want $80 to fix it even though they know the iOS is doing it! This pissed me off enough to where I am definitely considering switching when the new galaxy s9's become available.

Apple lost me as a customer with their iOS 11 release. If they want to sell throwaway phones that just don't work once you updated them, then they gonna have to drop prices below 150$ to keep me.

Such a shame how quality went down in the last years.

You are wrong for thinking Apple is purposefully forcing you to buy new iPhones, but I respect you for voting with your wallet if you really do believe there is a conspiracy theory behind this stuff. I wish the tiny, tiny, tiny 0.000001% minority who feel the way you do would do the same and leave the rest of us in peace.

when apple acknowledges that they are aware that their latest ios is causing battery consumption issues and then expects customer to pay for their mistake, that's when it becomes a problem and not a conspiracy. I personally witnessed it, straight from the genius bar, that they said they are aware of the issue and yet want me to pay $80 to fix it. Yes some people were not affected but a lot were and it's wrong for apple to make customers have to pay for it. If you don't want to keep hearing people complain about battery issues then how about not getting on the forum that's specifically related to battery issues?

I'm not sure I'd take the word of a Genus bar or any Apple store employee as fact. Sure they may be aware of it and I'm sure Apple is aware some people are complaining but doesn't mean Apple corporate thinks it is a real problem to be fixed. It may be but some of advice I've gotten from people at the Apple store would make many people here laugh

I agree. The my apple rep didn't have much knowledge and I had to explain to him everything I did several times for him to finally understand. What sucks is that they are aware and don't care. As a customer I feel like I was just bent over a barrel and I'm forced to take it. Why would want to give Apple more money when they know of the issue? This is why some people, including myself, are dissatisfied with how they have completely ignored older phones.

has anyone else noticed this?

Yesterday my battery was at 41% on the Plus by 4pm.. this phone has never reached 50% at that time unless I was on it the whole time.

My phone right now is at 81% and it’s been used for only 20 min.

My phone usually at this time is at 95-96%.
Yes, I have this same problem with my ipad4. I keep it powered down when not in use or the battery goes down to 13% by dinnertime.

If they suggest to you to replace your battery for $80, its because your diagnostic shows that the battery health is below 80%. Believe me, I ask them 2 times that I was willing to pay for a battery change and both time they refused claimed the diagnostic test shows that the battery is still good so don't take the word of a genius bar too seriously. Apple may be aware of the issue, but your battery could be wrong as well.

Yes this happened to me as well but then I insisted on paying for a new battery for my 6 back in the days and they changed it. My battery life improved after that though.

11.2!!! Please tell me this has finally sorted it.

Today is my first full day on 11.2 and the best battery I've had in months. Unplug at 07:30 and am usually on 30-35% by 6pm with extrememly moderate usage. It's just gone 4pm now and I'm on 75%. If this lasts I will be very happy.

What model?

I will comment after a couple of cycles, but yes, improvement seems to be there. When I would be on 8-10% upon returning home in the evening, I was at 42% last evening. I am on a 6s ( ios 11.2 obviousy :))

Still garbage battery life. It’s not going to be fixed ever by the looks of it. I think even the One Plus 5 at our workplace has better battery life and that costs half as much as my iPhone 7 Plus. Great job Apple.
