I have a 15'' Mac Book Pro and seem to be having similar problems. So far I've gotten to the actual game once and have really been enjoying the menus before they crash. I usually am able to get to the sign in part and I'm lucky to get past that. I also used to play games on Boot Camp but that started messing up recently and can't anymore, don't know if the two are related.

Similar problems

I have a 24 inch 2.4 iMac.

None of the start up screens show up, but I can get to the game login page by pressing the ESC key. I can play the game just fine, and haven't had any problems with my graphics or my audio as far as I can tell. The screen flickers and I get like a "bad video" feed when I get shot with the "blue electric shock" thingy (obviously i'm a total noob at the game) when in a vehicle. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a game effect of if its a video problem, but its no bigdeal.

The real problems comes with quitting the game. I have yet to quit a game and not have my Mac crash on me. This happens everytime, black screen with the mouse pointer visible. I tried every keyboard shortcut combo to force quit, restart, shutdown etc and none work. The only solution is to pull the plug, which I would rather avoid.

I hope the fix comes out soon, this game seems to be loads of fun.

All of a sudden , I can't get a game to load, it will start loading map and then about 2/3 of the way through it will either lock up whole machine or if I'm lucky dump me to the desktop - it's happened at least 5 times in a row now.

Where/how do I find a crashlog for this game to check and see what is going on?

I'm starting to have the same problem. Crash on the load screen between 50-75%. Started about 10 days ago after otherwise flawless gameplay at decent enough graphics settings. Slightly annoying to say the least. Only connecting about 1 in 10 attempts now, and mid game crashes seem to be a hell of a lot more regular.

Haven't been able to work out the issue as yet. Seemingly came out of nowhere. Perfect performance in the morning before work, didn't work when I came back that evening.

Hi,

I can't play BF 2142 in any resolution higher than 1024x768. I've tried to change the settings in the .con files, but it doesn't work.

I also renamed the .bik files for skipping the crappy intro's (black-flickering-screens).

Any suggestions for running BF2142 in higher resolutions ? I've read that a few of you can actually play at 1900x1200 or 1280x760...

I've got a new iMac (aluminium) with 256Mb video and 1Gb RAM.

Native in OSX on the new Alum iMacs, there hasn't been a notable way to get the resolution higher since apparently either BF/Cider incorrectly pulls the video card info or the video card/driver is not reporting the resolutions properly to BF/Cider.

You can't force it via .config file as someone else suggested, neither myself nor an Apple Genius could get that to work. Maybe on other mac systems but on the new alum iMacs resolution was bad.

If you hook up an external monitor either cinema display or another monitor and make it your primary you can probably get higher resolutions but not on the newer iMac as the primary.

Although I think it might be a driver issue on the new iMacs seeing as how other ppl on older systems say some of these "cider" games run fine. I do agree with your response.

It's not the new iMacs, works fine on mine. How do you get it windowed? Then I would record a little video of it working fine.

I think it is the new imacs got my Battlefield 2142 game today and it will not run freezes back to desktop and says please make sure disk is in( and the disk is in) darn Imac!

Oh, I got that the first 3 times, just keep on trying and force quit things in the activity monitor (specifically cider or wine related things)

It is the new iMacs, confirmed by several sources. It has to do with the ATI card drivers.

Running windowed and taking a video won't prove much, run it while making a video of it running showing your system and maybe I'll buy it.

I can easily load it in windows and take a video and say "see it runs on the new iMacs"

We're talking about OSX native as well, in Bootcamp it runs just fine. That's also WINDOWS on the new iMac. OSX and the ATI Drivers in iMac don't work together properly and produce shabby graphics.

It's proven by other games as well. Straight out the box, brand new iMac, updated to 1.0 (and 1.1 and as far as that goes, even factory drivers) BF2142 has shoddy textures and game glitching to high heaven. Factory drivers lock the game completely, 1.1 and your 50/50 the game will lock AND the textures are still messed up, 1.0 graphically is still the same as 1.1 but without the constant lock ups.

There's a fix on the way as announced by Apple, I 'CANT' say much more than that (hint hint).

ok stupid question time are the new Alu Imacs g-5 systems?

Unless I'm mistaken G5 iMacs are the white ones ( I could be wrong, I just refer to them as iMac, the other white meat LOL). Those have nVidia cards in them.

the Al iMacs have ATI 2400/2600 HD cards which are commonly referred to that I've seen as Al iMacs (Al standing for Aluminum sp*).

Ok thanks,I was thinking maybe that would explain why I cant get Battlefield 2142 to run,it says on the Apple site that it will not run on g3 g4 g5 systems.

There are a few known (some of which aren't documented well) issues with and in particular BF2142 and the new Alum iMacs with the ATI graphics cards.

1. Application Enhancer - If you have this installed (check your system preferences) it will cause your BF2142 to crash yet you can still play it however it will hang the wineserver app and you need to kill that process in order to start the game a 2nd time.
2. Punkbuster doesn't update properly - I have never had this issue but people have reported this to be an issue on the Mac version of the game. I don't have links but the EA Mac forums has one post on it that can help (http://forums.ea.com/mboards/forum.jspa?forumID=4166) Yes we have a specific forums for BF2142 now.
3. Graphical glitches (Textures) - This is the one I've been most following as it was noticed when I first bought the game for Mac. Bootcamp it works fine but in OSX depending on the map you'll get different textures (See pictures in this thread). This is being worked on at the present. I can't comment on this to much but it IS being worked on by Apple.
4. Shoddy performance - Glitch jumping, bad response with mouse. Probably fixed with next patch or even new graphic drivers may or may not help. It seems like graphic lag more than anything.

Well... since no one believes me. I will use my old video camera to take a video of it with the computer in the video :).

I can play it, so I honestly don't care if you can. I know there are issues with the game. Factory drivers, 1.0 drivers AND 1.1 drivers. I know they are there, Apple knows they are there, EA knows they are there but that doesn't mean I CAN'T play the game. I CAN if I can tolerate the graphics and graphic jerks.

If it works on yours so be it. Maybe you have a magical machine. What you just described above would prove and what I was trying to say needed to be done. ANyone can shoot in game footage and claim it on any machine.

I can do the same and show it running as well, I can also show you the issues with it. I never said it 100% does NOT work.

Also it has to be (and stress this) legitimate store bought mac version not the pre-beta release or a hacked cider copy using the current cider hack to get windows games working.

From your video and the way it appears looks like you suffer from the same things I've been complaining about and Apple is working on.

Thanks for posting that, I can show that to Apple as well.

I suffer from not being able to see the EA logo at the beginning? That's the only problem. Nothing else is wrong, there is the standard spawn lag but that's normal. I also tried to die ASAP for the video, I got lucky that some guy shot me :D.

Do you have all of the software (apple) upgrades installed or not?

The videos in the beginning are also a known issue. You can download a bink player to view them but I just deleted them since after playing for so long they're rather annoying now. You'll need to show contents of the Battlefield 2142.app then open "Contents\Resouces" then do show contents again on the Battlefield 2142.app there then go "Contents\Resources\transgaming\c_drive\" from there I think you can find your way around, it's pretty basic. You'll need to go into the "mods\bf2142\movies" then delete the files.

Now rather than show probably the only map that isn't totally affected, try showing more maps.

Trust me man, I know there's issues with this game and the new iMacs. I can't say much about it yet but there is.

Here's my YouTube showing the 'OTHER' maps since you only showed one. I even included the Camp map that does work, or at least works most of the time.

Again I never said it 100% did NOT work. When you see the video (it's being played using 1.0 drivers and the game still crashes) you'll see yes I can play, but who wants to play with graphics like this.

I start out with medium settings, then move up to high settings, no AA or anything since that adds mondo lag. But you can see maps like Sidi, Suez are botched to high heaven, Minsk as well, Camp works ok most of the time. Cerbere is one that works sometimes, but also suffers depending on your graphics settings.

I even did Minsk at high settings and it still suffered. These issues are known and according to official Apple a driver fix is on the way. I can't go beyond that.

UGGGGG still uploading, I'll post the link in a bit

Ok here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r7iTkHkzUg

Quality stinks due to poor lighting in my office and I had the brightness turned down on the iMac.

If it's any help I have figured out how to quit BattleField 2142 without a system freeze or crash. When done playing click the grey box on the top right of the screen to logout of your account then click the grey box once again. I find this works 90% of the time. Hope this helps you.

Solve for map load locking

This was posted on the EA forums, and seems to have fixed my problems:

To any Mac users encountering this problem, load and login, go in to the Community tab, click custom game, and launch the most recent item I had to do it twice, because the game froze when it was rebooting, and I ran into the "Losing Key Packets" error. If this happens, just do it again, and it should be fine.
