I use it on my blackberry and can say that it really is a great IM app. Way better than anything I've installed on my touch.

I'll be looking forward to the release very much.

Hmmm... I dunno. The interface doesn't look as good as I was expecting. :(

Works great!

I have been using it for weeks now and am 100% happy with it compared to the other IM apps out there.

I'm a little confused by these two pics:

iphonejivetalk8.jpg
normal_iPhoneJiveTalk4.jpg

Is there going to be an option on whether or not to display the last message received or is the first picture just open chat windows that haven't received a reply yet?

This sounds great.
I can finally get rid of MobileChat if this works as advertised.

It looks like the second pic is showing chats with unread IM's where the first pic doesn't have any chats with unread IM's.

I'm a big Beejive supporter - I had it on my BB and that is the one app I truely miss... For a while I actually went back to my BB just so I could use it. (I've now gone with the web version, but its not quite the same).

I'm really looking forward to it being released. I downloaded MC the day it came out and haven't used it since - its garbage. (I know they are working on the issues, but I'm not too optimistic yet).

Hopefully its out soon or they open up the beta.

The two different chat list views ARE a little confusing, but I'm very excited that the actual chats looks like this:

normal_iPhoneJiveTalk1.jpg

Finally an IM app that looks like the native Apple SMS chats!! Well, sort of -- the color change is a bit confusing. I'm assuming the user's text is still on the right (blue here), and your friend's text is green -- although in the SMS chat, it's YOUR text that's green. But whatever, as long as the general look and feel is somewhat consistent, I could care less about the colors. Who knows? Maybe they're changeable...

Although I'm not so sure about the text input -- is it really an overlay like in this image?:

normal_iPhoneJiveTalk6.jpg

I guess it's a way to save space, show one more IM line, AND show more of what you're writing -- which is all cool, I guess. Though it seems like it could be messy too. I guess it's just one of those things you have to try first, to see if you'll like it.

All in all, if this works as well as boygenius claims, I will be soooooooo happy to get rid of the buggy, unreliable MobileChat -- as well as the ugly UI of Palringo.

Here's why it's going to be awesome...

1) Their servers can handle it.
2) Updates will be available more often than for MobileChat
3) The interface ROCKS.

They better reconsider that $30 price point. I wouldn't even spend $5 on an IM app. Not sure if that's indicative of the masses, but I do purchase a fair amount of apps.

I have a feeling it won't be $30.. for one thing, its only $20 for the BB (Its $30 if you want a transferrable license, but can still be bought for $20).. Also, it was really the only app of its kind for the BB. I think theres more of a competitive marketplace with the App store and they have to accommodate for that.

The client base is different between a BB and iPhone - I think you can get away with charging $20 for a BB app - I can't tell you that I recall any type of app that was .99 or even 1.99 for the BB (when I had one) and thats very common on the App store.

I think a $20.00 price would scare off alot of customers (especially after the MobileChat hype/letdown) - probably to the point that they'd probably sell 4x more if they changed $5.00 and still break even...

I would expect it to be similarly priced to MobileChat.. (and if not, hopefully they'll let me transfer my BB license since I shelled out the $30 for it when I had my BB!) :)

They will also be selling a lot more copies with the iPhone version than with the BB because it's in a centralized store where everyone can have the opportunity to see it.

I would gladly pay up to $10 for an app like this that worked flawlessly.

But yes, I expect this to be closer to the $3-5 range for the App Store, and would be happily surprised to see it for anything less.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

I can't wait for this. It is awesome on the BB and will rock in the iPhone. MobileChat is seriously on borrowed time now and better get an update out before Beejive is released. Amateur hour is over.

I'm still a loyal MobileChat user, however I would pay $30 if BeeJive worked exactly like I wanted it to (unlikely).

I haven't touched MobileChat that much, however, because the place where I work and where I go to for college prevents MobileChat from working (yet AIM works...kinda like how they allow AIM on Windows to work...but iChat on Mac doesn't).

Have you been beta testing the iPhone native app? Are passwords stored on the phone and transmitted to the Beejive server with SSL (like the iPhone web app does)? This is one of the many problems I have with MobileChat.

mobile chat is still useless for me. What a waste of $3.

I'd pay $10-20 if of course the app actually worked.

Hmm.. I'm not a fan of the UI. It's got a few weird elements. I've still been fine with MobileChat. I used it perfectly for one hour straight to see how well it held up. Worked the whole time.

How can you be a loyal MC user when it doesn't even work?

I'm down for Beejive the second it comes out. I'm so tired of checking MC's blog to see if anything has been fixed - nothing has changed since Day 1.

I check Mobile Chats blog everyday just to see if things are working yet. I'm not too cheap to buy the app and actually think that its reasonably priced. I'm just waiting till it gets fully functional. I'm just waiting for the AIM app that works as good as it does on the Sidekick...if there is one thing that that phone is good at its AIM.

there will always be "fan boys" of any product regardless of whether the product actually works or not.

thank goodness that we live in a capitalistic society that will ensure that better products will be developed and any crap like mobilechat will fall by the wayside
