As an Apple user I am not annoyed at all except for all the whining by the Android crowd. And I definitely do not feel penalized because I have iMessage. :)

As an Apple/Windows/Linux/Android user I think you are incorrect.
Others, right or wrong are trying to find one.
Apple is just sitting back and saying “No.”.

Apple can decide who is allowed to use their servers. I never argued this.

I do not see the issue with how Beeper managed to find a way to get in on that action, nor will I demonize them or the Android users who chose to make use of that spoof for E2EE.

What I laugh at, and scoff at, is the hilarious fear-mongering statement from Apple that someone tricking their servers into labeling an Android an iPhone is in some way capable of reducing the effectiveness of the E2EE already in effect for any other messages.
The big question for Android users is why would they would want to impersonate being an iPhone user? Is iMessage that mush better than anything than Android has to offer that they feel the need to pretend they are using an iPhone? I thought the reason they use Android is because they think it’s vastly superior. Guess not.

Oh, and by the way, when RCS comes to iMessage Android users will still be green bubbles. Apple has confirmed this.

Just get an iPhone if you want iMessage…

iMessage is not free to run, and Apple has the full rights to not allow iMessage on Android.

The only thing Beeper does to benefit everyone is to make iMessage more secure.
I already have an iphone. How many apple devices do I need to buy before I'm allowed to access my conversations on ALL of my devices?

It's mostly people who don't have an Apple ID tied to any iDevice who are having issues from some comments I've read. Maybe Apple is coming after random users who fit that description? I am logged in with my Apple ID on my iPhone, iPad Mini, and AW. Have had zero issues or outages with Beeper Cloud, will not use Mini due to all of the issues.

This isn't exactly "news"...just a clickbait article from MR.

Just get an iPhone or iPad if you really want access to iMessage!

One more time … it isn’t about access to iMessage.
It’s about the ability to communicate to iMessage from non-Apple devices and from iMessage to non-Apple devices and have E2EE.

Apple is forcing Apple users to use non-E2EE anytime they use iMessage to communicate to a non-iMessage partner. Apple is more concerned about locking in / retaining users than your security / privacy when it comes to messaging.

Forgetting if it's morally right or not... Does anyone actually want this?
It seems interesting from a tech demo perspective but is it anything more than that? Every single person I know on Android uses WhatsApp. They aren't going to suddenly start paying a few quid a month to message me on another app so that its slightly more convenient for me.

It's because iMessage is terrible at non-iMessage formats. SMS/MMS is the worst fallback, and Apple supporting RCS next year is something I welcome. Group texting from iMessage degrades to crap quality images, no E2EE, and loss of quality-of-life features if only one of the recipients isn't on iMessage. I'm so looking forward to RCS support from Apple next year (finally). It should kill the need for unauthorized clients like Beeper Mini. If Apple launches RCS support with no E2EE, that will still be a huge gap to request Apple to fill.

That all said, none of my Android-using friends would likely install Beeper Mini anyway, so it's all moot for me. I'm not interested in being the product for the Meta apps either. I might toy with Beeper Mini on my Pixel 7 out of curiosity. My Apple devices are still my main drivers and I enjoy iMessage (and Signal).

Party A does something unauthorized on Party B’s property. Party B shuts it down. Party A throws a temper tantrum. Reminds me of those children you see in the middle of a shopping mall sitting on the floor crying because they didn’t get what they want. I applaud Apple for shutting this down.

That makes sense since Apple will not support E2E encryption for RCS as it's currently not part of the standard but a proprietary implementation. The green bubble is also meant to signal the lack of encryption.

Apple will supposedly contribute to improve the RCS standard and once it will have proper E2E encryption maybe it will make sense for the bubble to become a different color.
