Oh, and by the way, when RCS comes to iMessage Android users will still be green bubbles. Apple has confirmed this.
I was happy to hear this when the news first broke that Apple will support RCS. It will be nice to still have the blue bubbles unique to true iMessage, and green for whatever else. I guess they could throw in some third color if they wanted to, but I don’t see the need.

Is this the onion? Apple's customers are people who own an Apple Device...which wouldn't need you to use Beeper in the first place. The only people using Beeper are people who literally aren't Apple's customers lmao. If you don't own a MacBook, iPad, or iPhone...you are not an Apple Customer. Only exception would be if you use one of Apple's services like Apple TV, which can be used cross-platform or Apple Music.

Beeper charging for the service was inevitably going to cause a legal stink, this much they had to figure.

But if all the app is doing is essentially spoofing Apple hardware to enable E2EE, I don't see an issue if they managed to figure this out and implement the feature.

Would be on Apple to prove that having Android devices pretend to be Apple devices somehow causes a privacy breach anymore than sending a SMS. Which I know they won't bother to do because it would involve them admitting their iMessage set up isn't some magical "Apple only" technology, even if we all know it isn't.
it doesn't matter if it is magical or not, they should not be doing this with out Apple's approval.
If someone can manage to reverse engineer a product and make a copy product is it ok ?

Apple cannot have an entirely closed messaging ecosystem when they have over 1.46 BILLION iPhone users in the world.

Apple doesn’t have that many active iPhone users. Definitely more than 1 billion, but the number you quoted is likely the total number of active apple devices in circulation.

That said, you may have a point if there weren’t any other messaging apps available, but the fact is that users do have choice. If they choose not to download WhatsApp or telegram so they can have a better messaging experience with android users, then they have made their choice.

How did Beeper even think this was a good idea? Who in their management hit their head one day and thought “you know what, we should try to piggy back on Apple’s iMessage system for free, and then charge people money to use “our” “service”. 😂🤣. They actually should get sued, just blocking their leechware is actually pretty lenient, I think Apple should throw the book at them and put them into bankruptcy. If Beeper wanted to create their own service using their own system, and their own servers, that would be a totally different matter. They could even make use of the APIs Apple shares that are used in iMessage for things like stickers. It could look similar. It could use all blue bubbles, green bubbles, purple bubbles, pink bubbles (you get the point). It could do whatever they wanted as their own system, their own service, their own app. I’d be all for that, and so would Apple. But they’re trying to leech off of another businesses’ service for free.

Same here. I just took a look at the beeper website and it looks like the Beeper crew are praising Beeper Mini features that are actually iMessage features. Even the first sentence on their website talks about how everyone can have blue bubbles now.

Exactly and the android fanboys are ridiculous lmao. The only "cool thing" is they reverse engineered it everything else is them bragging about features they didnt create :D

I actually don't mind taking the hit to my Reddit karma calling out the beeper/android fans lol

As an Apple/Windows/Linux/Android user I think you are incorrect.
Others, right or wrong are trying to find one.
Apple is just sitting back and saying “No.”.
this is not about any solution.
Google lost market share in messaging apps, they couldn't create an app that people would like to use.
Google thinks that iif they can make SMS a modern messaging app then people will stop using third party messaging apps, then Google can gain market share in messaging app and make more money.
this is not about customers.
this is all about how google can collect data from messages.

People think that this RCS, blue vs green bubble is about customers ? :)
Google lost market share in messaging apps, they couldn't create an app that people would like to use for years.
this is like 4th messaging app that google created in last 10 years.
Google thinks that iif they can make SMS a modern messaging app and force Apple to use the same SMS standard then people will stop using third party messaging apps, then Google can gain market share in messaging app and make more money.

there are like 100 different apps that people can use to chat, no one is forcing you to use SMS.
Google didn't have a messaging app that android customers want to use for like 15 years.
Ya, and Google could have made their messaging app cross-platform if they chose to, they could have made a “Google Messages” app for iOS, and then people could have the same app on both ends. Not to mention, like you said, there literally are hundreds of alternatives out there, and if Beeper wanted to make their own app that used their own system and own servers, Apple wouldn’t have had any issue with that. Beeper could have even looked similar, and made use of all of the APIs Apple shares for its Messages app in theirs for features such as stickers. But instead, they’re leeching on someone else’s service, and then throwing a temper tantrum like a toddler when Apple patches the back doors they were trying to exploit.

If he wasn't trying to build a business on it, and being purposely disingenuous about the situation, I would be more OK with it. They are literally just trying to profit off Apple's work. They have about as much of a legal leg to stand on as Napster.

I think you mean RCS rather than SMS. RCS is what Google is lobbying for.

Not sure Beeper Mini's approach is the correct one, but as a person who uses both Apple and Android devices, having a consistent messaging system that isn't owned by Meta or Google across my devices would be nice.
Messaging app created using RCS on Android is not owned by google ?
there are like 20 different apps that can be used to message across different operating systems, people have freedom to choose.

I’m an iPhone owner and a few of the people I send messages to are on Android phones. I don’t worry about what the messages or photos look like on their devices, that’s their concern, not mine.

It matters when they can't send you full resolution images and video either.

I'm an iPhone owner that doesn't use iMessage, even though I'm the US. I don't use SMS, either.

Every sentence in that post is false. I own multiple devices in basically every product line apple makes, including iPhone. I also have non-Apple devices, which may come as a shock. Some of us aren't so far apples rear end they can't see beyond the walled garden. I run my own BlueBubbles server to use imessage on my windows and android devices though.

As an iphone user, it is your concern that when your contacts send you photos or video, they look like compressed trash. Unless that just doesn't matter to you.
