Every sentence in that post is false. I own multiple devices in basically every product line apple makes, including iPhone. I also have non-Apple devices, which may come as a shock. Some of us aren't so far apples rear end they can't see beyond the walled garden. I run my own BlueBubbles server to use imessage on my windows and android devices though.

As an iphone user, it is your concern that when your contacts send you photos or video, they look like compressed trash. Unless that just doesn't matter to you.
Some of use aren’t so childish and rude. Also, Beeper is leeching off another business’s software, another business’s server space, another business’s service, in complete violation of the terms of service for said service, without consent from the other business, without paying the other business, and then whines like a little toddler when said other business closes the back-doors they were trying to exploit, which likely could also be used for scammy purposes. Oh, and even though Beeper was using said other business’s system for free and without consent, they wanted people to pay them for it! They should get sued.

I just checked the text from the lady who cleans my house, of the damage that was done by a tree that came down in a storm, while I was out of town. There is no problem with the photograph at all. I can clearly see the damage done by the tree. She is definitely a green bubble Android user.

Are you a developer? Just because Apple can and does fix bugs, doesn’t mean they can in a quick and convenient manner for you. Some bugs are trickier than others and can have the effect of “fix one thing, break another” so Apple needs to use diligence when developing fixes and updates to their operating systems and software.
The time spent trying to stop a silly text message maybe they should focus on the bugs on the Apple TV cause it ain’t even functioning right since the new update

This weeks ATP episode had some amazing opinions on it. I agree with them all too!

Anybody else listened to it?

Apple cannot have an entirely closed messaging ecosystem when they have over 1.46 BILLION iPhone users in the world.

I’m amazed that no one has fought harder for interoperability until now.
Fight for interoperability all you want. You are getting RCS.

iMessage can and should exist for IOS users. It's not Apple's fault that IOS users in the states are happy with iMessage. We have choices. Some (like me) use them. Most apparently dont. So you should force Apple to open up iMessage because ios users dont want to use any other app?

If you are getting RCS then you are getting interoperability. You are not entitled to be in the iMessage walls.

Apple needs to issue a TRO and put this madness to an end. Leeching off of Apple's userids, servers, platform, protocols, and then trying to charge and make a profit with none of the proceeds going to Apple. And then crying when Apple pulls the plug. This is entitlement run amok.

I (we) should be entitled to set a different default messaging app on iOS, though.

the world is going to end in 365.25 days if we don’t stop Apple’s tyranny!!!

… 365.26 days later after nothing happens: the world is going to end in 400 days if we don’t stop Apple’s tyranny!

… 401 days later after nothing happens: the universe is going to collapse in on itself if we don’t stop Apple’s tyranny.

Beeper charging for the service was inevitably going to cause a legal stink, this much they had to figure.

But if all the app is doing is essentially spoofing Apple hardware to enable E2EE, I don't see an issue if they managed to figure this out and implement the feature.

Would be on Apple to prove that having Android devices pretend to be Apple devices somehow causes a privacy breach anymore than sending a SMS. Which I know they won't bother to do because it would involve them admitting their iMessage set up isn't some magical "Apple only" technology, even if we all know it isn't.
Now you’re understanding why beeper mini exists! Not to sell a feature or help the poor Android users! It’s to exploit Apple’s data n a lawsuit!

Adding @lkrupp

One more time … it isn’t about access to iMessage.
It’s about the ability to communicate to iMessage from non-Apple devices and from iMessage to non-Apple devices and have E2EE.

Apple is forcing Apple users to use non-E2EE anytime they use iMessage to communicate to a non-iMessage partner. Apple is more concerned about locking in / retaining users than your security / privacy when it comes to messaging.
Didn’t Apple recently state that they were implementing RCS messaging beginning next year? Won’t that enable encryption and similar features to what iMessage currently provides to Apple users? In the meantime use SMS or one of the myriad other messaging apps. Hacking iMessage is not the way to do things.

Eventually, yes. They pledged to work to make encrypted RCS a standard. It's not at the moment.

Some folks in this forum seem really bothered by green text people joining their little club without paying the premium and it's been interesting to watch, to say the least.

I’m not bothered by someone with a green bubble communicating with me, what does bother me is when one business essentially hacks and misuses another business’s services and software without their permission or any compensation, and then throws a fit like a child when other said business locks them out of their system… It has nothing to do with green text people joining a club, what most people here are pointing out is that Beeper is acting way outside of legal bounds, and Apple would have every right to sue them if they chose to. So far, Apple has merely closed the door, which is rather lenient.

For the people saying “but you can’t set other messaging apps as default”, you really don’t need to. You can hide the Messages app away somewhere and put your messaging app of choice front and center on your home screen wherever you like. There isn’t much difference if it’s the “default” or not, except maybe incoming phone calls, but that’s irrelevant to texts. Just give out your contact for whatever messaging app you’ve chosen, and messaging can mostly be handled there if you want. Lots of people do it.

You have an interesting definition of the word hack

this is not about any solution.
Google lost market share in messaging apps, they couldn't create an app that people would like to use.
Google thinks that iif they can make SMS a modern messaging app then people will stop using third party messaging apps, then Google can gain market share in messaging app and make more money.
this is not about customers.
this is all about how google can collect data from messages.

This isn’t about Google.
It’s about having E2EE between iMessage and the rest of the world. Personally I wish they would all use Signal or Telegram as the default.
Impossible in the Apple world.
Sadly.

This idea that Beeper hacked iMessage seems like a poor word choice... they reverse engineered it.

It's not as if they did this maliciously, I think that's what's causing the disconnect here... it's a problem created by Apple that they are attempting to fix. Of course, Apple does not care to fix this problem because it benefits them.

Sue them for what exactly?
