I think you're giving the Air too much credit, someone much less than 400lb could sit on one and bend it.

Not in that fashion. The weight is not distributed in that way when someone sits. It wouldn't be concentrated enough. It's not like a phone where it could have been in a person's pocket and pressed sideways against the rail of the back of a chair.

If you'd like to send me your Air then I'd be glad to prove you wrong and I'm only a little over 200lb.

Ipad 2 should be my last Ipad or if Ipad 4 is still available somewhere. I much prefer the heavier but more sturdy thick glass that can take some abuse.

yep. had an iPad 2, then got an iPad 3. then got and iPad Air and had it for just a few days before i returned it. it felt like a piece of crap compared to my iPad 3, albeit it was easier to hold while reading.

i was able to snag a brand new iPad 4, 128GB for just $520 instead. definitely glad i did too

Same EXACT problem

So all you haters out there who have said that there is no way that this could have happened on its own...

I have had the exact same thing happen to mine, I just noticed today that the screen seemed higher in one area than the rest and I was like what??

The pictures of the original poster's ipad are identical to mine and I mean IDENTICAL. His photos may as well be mine, the bend is about the same amount and the kink is in the exact same spot. I know of no impact to the device and there is no other visible damage other than the bend.

I'd say the chances of repetitive "coincidences" of the exact same symptoms is pretty small.

I'm taking mine in to the apple store tomorrow to find out what is going on. At least I have the apple care.

I've seen stuff like this before. Samsung's slate 7 looked a lot like that. Screen lift. These things were such junk that they all started to fall apart. Dissimilar materials heating and cooling. But the Slate 7 was plastic. This is sort of suprising.

If this is legit, Apple may have a HUGE problem. The thin, light, thing gone too far.

Call people haters all you want. The fact that you just registered here and this was your first post with no pictures or proof to back up your story I call BS on this one.

Why would anyone do that? This whole thread is like something out of the X-files.

I've already sent an email to the company. I'm on the waiting phase.

Sure. Because, you know, I care a lot about a bunch of strangers not buying my story…

As a matter of fact I almost don't sleep. :(

So, did they ever get back to you and replace it? Did it bend any further?

Sign up to make these crazy posts.

But i'll tell you what, if my Air starts bending I'm going to get a little bent in my local Apple store.

You have very little experience with MR I can easily tell. ;)

Furthermore with your High degree of trust in faceless souls in cyberspace we all might as well just go sign up on forums and say our cars just bent on their own, show no pictures to back up our statement and expect the world to believe our story. :p

Yeah, coming here is a mistake.

I'm not sure how the battery is configured in the air, is it possible battery swelling caused this?

Honestly I was better not being subscribed to this topic. Sadly I was quoted…

I've seen enough BS from some users, so keeping track of this case is worthless (some users even went to the point of pretending that this was a second account and $h!t).

If there's something that I've learned from this particular community is that Apple never make mistakes, and if that some issue hasn't happened to your own device, then it must be BS.

Only thing I can add at this point is that some other users have been posting similar experiences on the thread that I made in the Apple Support Communities. Now, if you think all this is some sort of hoax and that I made this up because I was bored and need your attention… then is your problem.

Cheers.

I've come to think that the problem has nothing to do with the battery. It must be just the crappy design and construction, so if you use just one hand to hold the device, the own weight of it will bend the body enclosure towards the other side. Just a theory though.

Did they ever replace it for you? Just wondered if you got an explanation or if they just fobbed you off with a new one.

Even if it was caused by the battery, that is almost always something that can be determined by getting the unit diagnosed via an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. If that location near you is only reseller and not a service provider, you might need to find a service provider that will test it for you.

Also, why were there no pictures taken of the front and back of the unit?

Maybe if the owners stopped sitting on them:rolleyes:

This is just a tiny bit off topic but I sit on my rMini all the time.
It lives in my back pocket when I'm not using it. I guess that I put the most stress on it when in an automobile, although after I do sit in the automobile I do take it out of my back pocket. Point being it does get sad on first. After 5 months of daily use it has not shown's signs of bending and comparing it to my wife's iPad Air, I think the mini might be more fragile feeling. So the bending in my opinion may be metal stress related and limited to only a very few devices.

The jokes on you you have been chosen to be the new testers of the iPad curve!

I've read several reports of iPad minis with bent bodies. Now I'm facing the same problem for the first time with my own iPad, though it's an iPad Air.

I can assure you that I've done nothing wrong with the iPad in these less than 2 months of use. So I'm not completely sure what the cause is.

I just discovered how bent the body is today, though I suspect it was a progressive problem due to the thin and light form factor and the hot weather (sometimes the iPad got kind of hot during normal use).

Have you seen anything like this on an iPad Air? It looks really bad.

Mine is bent same way but still works but then my kid decided when it was leaning up against the chair to go by and kick it and when I flipped and asked why he did it he said he didn't know why lets just say he is now not happy with no electronics since I took them all

iPad Air is the apple's biggest design failure along side the mini 2 and mini 1
Why ?
Screen feels like plastic, I can feel it when I press on the screen and tap on it.
Cheap aluminum
No durability At all

Positives : good processor (A7)

In fact, iPad Air 2 which is like 20% thinner at 6.1 mm is a bit more durable than the air.
Apple future devices will all have the same problems that you have.
