Ah interesting - you have documents and desktop off. I'd have that turned on - that way anything you do in Documents and Desktop gets synched with iCloud - no need to copy it to iCloud. But that's me. Not sure how much iCloud storage you have. My wife and I have that checked on - and do most of our work in Documents and Desktop folders. I've got like 42GB and my wife has like 68GB in iCloud.

I'll assume you have <144GB on your desktop and documents - I'd definitely turn that on - save you the time of having to copy/paste it to iCloud. But whatever works for you is best.

So if you're copying files to iCloud - and having a local copy on your desktop - that's definitely a form of a backup. Most people don't have iCloud set that way tho.

Yah I don’t store anything on the machine. All is stored in the iCloud Drive or on thumb drives. I don’t want anything on the machine. I hate syncing. I love to control it. So now that I explained myself. Am I doing anything wrong or out of protocol?

you really have been a big help.

You're doing it fine - only thing is each file takes double the space but if you have plenty of space and that works for you it's fine.

That explains your answers to the above too - the way you're doing it is a backup. All good. If it works for you - it works :).

Have a great evening!

Oh my bad - that's right, you said you copy it off the desktop and place it into iCloud so not double space. I take that back.

With that said, iCloud is clearly the worst (or one of the worst) cloud solutions there are. It's buggy, it's inconsistent, I would never ever trust it with my data in current implementation. I do use it for iMessage sync and mobile device backups, which work fine and do not require high end features.
Amen. Been there, done that, see no need to experience it again.
