I realize this has probably been asked many times but what is the consensus for good ad blockers on Safari? Something not too resources heavy. Thanks.
There is no consensus. Since most people are loyal to their favourite, you will get the same discordant answers as in previous threads.I realize this has probably been asked many times but what is the consensus for good ad blockers on Safari?
Just got an email from Setapp that they were dropping AdGuard. "This app communicates with the servers based in Russia, and in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we exclude it from the list of our apps."There is no consensus. My preference is Adguard for Mac which works with all browsers and related apps. (e.g. mail and news readers). Just try some and see what you like.
I can well understand that, Setapp is based in Ukraine (as is AdGuard's main support team). I have mixed feelings.Just got an email from Setapp that they were dropping AdGuard. What are "Energized Ultimate+Regional and 1Hosts Pro" lists? Are they something that NextDNS offers?AdBlock Pro and NextDNS with Energized Ultimate+Regional and 1Hosts Pro lists ...
Adguard app doesn't, but easy to see why Setapp organisation thinks it does. See https://kb.adguard.com/en/general/local-adguardJust got an email from Setapp that they were dropping AdGuard. Another vote for Wipr. I like it because it also works on iOS.
Might be something to take up with Setapp. I know they are pushing apps from developers in Ukraine, so don't know why they are making an exception here. Maybe they are unaware (which doesn't seem likely) or maybe it's just the connection with Russia. I would think that would be something users would want to be "guarded" from. No clue!I can well understand that, Setapp is based in Ukraine (as is AdGuard's main support team). I have mixed feelings.
According to Adguard's web site and twitter feed, many of its developers are in Moscow, but most support (including filter updates) is from Ukraine. The company is registered in Cyprus and so subject to EU rules and regulations.
I would be interested in the evidence for the AdGuard app connecting to Russia. As far as I can tell the app communicates with servers in America to get filter lists, etc. The adguard.com web site is delivered from America. Though both may just be Cloudflare. Public code is on GitHub. I will explore further.

I paid the 38 bucks for a lifetime subscription.I use 1Blocker, which is very customizable and has worked well. It does have an annual subscription of about $15/year
I use Ghostery - seems fine resource wise AFAICT.I realize this has probably been asked many times but what is the consensus for good ad blockers on Safari? Something not too resources heavy. Thanks.

Some mentioned before me to be using wipr + vinegar. I didn't know vinegar till I read that comment. I decided to give vinegar a try and thanks to this person I now watch Youtube without ads. So now I'm currently using wipr + vinegar. Give vinegar a try. I'm not able to say if it's compatible with your adblocker, but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't. You can search more info about vinegar and its compatibilities and incompatibilities on the Internet if you need. BTW Vinegar is available for download in Apple Store.Hi guys, I thought I'd try posting here rather than starting a new thread straight away.
1Blocker isn't blocking YouTube adverts successfully any more on an M1 Mac- which adblockers (if any) are able to block YouTube ads still?
