Has anyone tried the Apple Pencil with PDF Expert? I got it a couple of weeks ago when it was free and have been using it. Haven't gotten my pencil in yet and wanted to know if it worked well.

Hey there!

No, it doesn't work properly with Apple Pencil at the moment. But version with full compatibility is coming soon:)

best regards,

Soon as in next 3 months or soon as in 8-12 months? I still haven't gotten my pencil yet, but I've been using your app a lot more and love it! I've been showing it off to a couple of people and they seem impressed as well. I also wouldn't mind beta testing through TestFlight if you need a beta tester once I get my pencil next week.

I use GoodNotes to annotate PDFs with Pencil.

LiquidText is nice but it doesn't let you annotate with a stylus (including Pencil).

Havent tried PDF Expert but it does look good.. too bad it's $9.99

Those that are using Goodnotes 4, please check something for me. After you annotate on PDFs, is the annotated file still saved in the pdf format?

Do all the annotations remain in the file when you open it on a Mac?

I needed to write out 5 forms last night, same form but some differences.

I copied the odd from Dropbox into GoodNotes, filled in the replicated data, duplicated the page, filled in the rest, selected 5 pages and copied to Outlook.

Annotation remained.

Apologies - I don't have Goodnotes on Mac to test your query but hope this is semi relevant for you.

Thanks.

I purchased the app at the end. I was very impressed with the functions, particular the presentation screen that hides the user interface.

However, I was a bit disappointed that, once the app exports the files back to PDF, it does not keep the annotations as modifiable objects. They become permanently etched to the documents.

This is not ideal, but it will do until Microsoft Office activates the inking function.

Hey guys!

We'll definitely add full Apple Pencil support soon! Stay tuned.

best regards,
Readdle Team

Hey Guys! Can I ask you to provide an update to this? When will Apple Pencil be fully supported? And when will you add multi-page view? 2-page view would be a very logical feature with the iPP!!!

You can export from GoodNotes with or without annotations, so yes - they remain in the file if you want.
Apple Preview won't let you change them though - but Adobe Acrobat does.
GoodNotes for Mac doesn't have Edit functionalities (yet) ;-)

It works for me now (just tried it). No pressure or tilt sensitivity but just writing with the pencil works fine in PDF Expert... it's even reasonably accurate.

It works, but there's e.g., no pressure sensitivity. Not a big deal for me but would be nice to have. Also, multi-page support is definitely important with the iPP.

Sorry for the delay in reply. For the moment there is only one thing that should be tuned in the application settings: wrist protection should be turned off. Apple Pencil is an intelligent tool that simply doesn’t need to have wrist protection enabled.

Wrist Protection in PDf Expert can be enabled/disabled in a few taps: go to PDF Expert 5 Settings > PDF > select Wrist Protection OFF.

2 page view is in the wish list :) Can you send us your email address? We would be glad to add your vote:)

I'm still getting a lot of random palm marks with my Apple Pencil. It'd be really nice to put in a mode where it only draws input from the Pencil, allowing me to just use one finger to scroll (just as an example, Microsoft's OneNote's "Inking" does this very well).

Yes-I'm a big fn of Readdle's apps.

However, there are 2 things that would make PDF Expert my go to annotation app:

1. Full Pencil support. Like JuBE above, I am getting random marks from my palm when I try to use the Pencil. So, is Pencil fully supported yet? Support was supposed to be coming "soon" as of December 3, 2015. That's 3.5 months ago... I believe you may have implemented limited Pencil support, but the random palm marks make me think it's not quite right yet...

2. Direct Dropbox integration. I don't want to have to import/export PDF files, and the Sync function only seems to work on folders, not individual files within a folder. Adobe Actobat has direct Dropbox integration with no importing or syncing.

I love PDF Expert except for these 2 things. Add these and PDF Expert would be the killer PDF annotation app.

Readdlemate, what's up with Pencil support?
